The more I write on Chaos, the more I'm starting to see my imagination expand and delve deeper into more thoughtful and complex characters--and delve deeper into the galaxy. Artemis is the latest development in this constant evolution and perhaps the character I feel most excited about. Out of any character I've created so far, she came to me the clearest. It was like she was already fully formed somewhere in the back of my mind and was just waiting to leap out onto the page.

However, I've never written any character other than a Jedi (classic, I know). I've also never been very involved in any of the faction activity around Chaos. The short story is that I've written Artemis as a Mandalorian with a personal vendetta against the Jedi. The implications of this are pretty multi-layered: she's willing to team with practically anyone in order to exact her vengeance. This means that she'll likely be interacting with character types with whom I've either had little or no previous interaction: Imperials, First Order folks, etc.

So, I guess the help I'm looking for is this:

  • Can someone either direct me to resources or otherwise help me fully understand the current state of the Mandalorian Clans? I've done as much research as I think I can, but I still feel like I could use a bit more help.
  • I would greatly appreciate any advice or suggestions on how to get more involved in faction activity.
  • Stemming from that, I would also be grateful for any tips on how to smoothly jump ship to interacting with character types outside my limited sphere of experience.

If you made it to the end of this novel--thank you so much!

Sup heard you were looking for people.

First, let me address that second point of yours. It's a bit hard to go out and just be given the stuff to become more involved, and sadly, I cannot speak for your faction in question as I don't know what it is and am more than likely not even in it, but I am willing to try and give some advice. The first bit I can offer is, the all too the simple advice of looking for others in your rut.Finding others who would like to expand their impact on the faction will ensure you have people who are more devoted and driven actually to get stuff done. Dominions are also great places to do things for your faction assuming it is a major one, but not only in the dominions but after them too. Just because your faction now has a new planet doesn't mean it can't get some fleshing out which was something that I always loved seeing factions do.

Hope some of that helped.

Also more than happy to meet your character. Though when it comes to advice for meeting and interacting with those that are different from your character. It's a bit hard to just say one thing fits all. Everyone's character is different just like every person is; one tip won't connects with everyone. Try PMing and discussing with people who are interested in how the two characters might come into the same place and how they might first interact with each other in a way that would breed conversation or action.

Artemis Lux Hello! I know I am fairly new around here, but I'd like to give you advice on playing a non-force user. (Ironic, how my character is force-sensitive...)

Try to give more depth to your character. You're going to be, well, just like any other person. Get more into detail however you can, expand on interests and abilities. You won't have the Force to really write about, and no fancy lightsabers to have your back. Instead, try to rely on wits or unconventional tactics when it comes to combat. Give your character some sort of career or job. This is implied, obviously, but Jedi will likely always have 'Jedi' as their main occupation. Instead, try to get involved with many different scenes and whatnot. This is kind of obvious, but I thought it'd be a good reminder.

Meet more people. I personally like to think of NFUs as more socially active beings than FUs. Try to meet different varieties of people. Smugglers, Politicians, Pacifists, all the like. This'll give you more opportunities to better flesh out your character.

Try more pacified RPs. What I tend to see is most Jedi/Sith being mainly offensively-oriented, no matter how much depth you give the character. In the end, Jedi and Sith will likely always be fighting something (IMO). Get involved with RPs that involve adventures, treasure hunts, business meetings, whatever! Make up stories that don't involve fighting. I know that Jedi/Sith can do this as well, but it's the point of bringing out more detail without having to worry if your character can be a badass lightsaber jockey. Remember, you're just a normal person. Do normal person things.

Well, that's all I really have. Again, I'm still fairly new around here so I obviously don't know much about how most people really RP around this place, but I really hope this helps in some way! Also, I'm always open for an RP if you need.

Btw, the only thing I know about the Mandalorians is that Mandalore has basically been devolved into early planet-development stages... Meaning that it's been pretty wrecked up.

tl;dr Try your best to give your character more depth. Best thing to do is to get involved with factions to meet new people. You're just like any regular person, so act like it!

I'm so sorry for not replying to you all individually! This community continuously blows me away with how helpful and welcoming you all are, especially because this is my first time RPing on a community message board (I hale from the AOL instant messenger RP days, where everything was much smaller and more contained). I apologize in advance for any clumsiness or missteps as I figure out my place around here, I'm definitely still learning. :)

I've expressed this to a few of you via PM, but I think I got a little over-zealous about jumping headfirst, guns blazing, into heavy-duty action and involvement, both in taking on new threads and in establishing myself heavily within the faction.:D  I was so overwhelmed and grateful to everyone who reached out with advice and encouraging words! I wish I could quit school and thread with you all full-time! It would be so much more fun than studying!

Because school is so busy for me right now, I'm suddenly a little nervous about over-extending myself--I would feel so badly if I took on a big role in the faction or started a bunch of different threads all at once and then had to drop the ball. For now, I think I'm going make myself slow down a bit and take baby bites, one thread at a time. Chaos is such a wonderful distraction from real life, and I don't want to lose it just because I got puppy-level excited about threading with all of you at once! Stop being so interesting and fun! :)

Thank you all so much again for your help--I'll still be keeping your advice at heart, and I hope to see you all around the boards!
