It was expected.

'Star Wars Battlefront II' is in development.

"Our next Star Wars Battlefront will be even bigger, taking players into more locations and allowing them to play with more heroes and characters across multiple Star Wars eras," said EA boss Andrew Wilson in a financial call last night. "There will be new ways to play, including an all new single-player campaign and much, much more that we are excited to share with our players in the months ahead."

What do YOU want to see in the next game?

I would love to see a little more solo-player content.

Battlefront is primarily focused on PvP/PvE with online (and local) multiplayer. It's strength is in how much you can play and replay it with your friends. However, I love the training missions in which we got to ride Speederbikes through the forest moon of Endor, fly an X-Wing in the canyons of Tattooine, take out AT-ATs on Hoth with an A-Wing, or blast rebel scum from the badass confines of your AT-ST.

I would not want to shift the focus too heavily towards these elements, but I would love to get some more tracks such as these.

If it isn't obvious by my character, I want to see CIS stuff and a campaign for each different era for each different side not to mention a return in galactic conquest and much better fleet battles

Battlefront II has been out for a long time and I am willing to be good money it will remain superior in every kind of way to whatever yearly piece of poodoo that DICE can crap out.

I'd like to see proper fleet battles. Where one person flys the star destroyer and your team mates then fly in escorts, ties, interceptors and bombers against the rebels.

Maybe like 3 sd's or equivalent on each side

I'd like to see a more feature-complete game, instead of the barebones Battlefront we got.

One thing. One thing only. (Okay, maybe two. :D )

They stole it from us, tearing it from the game served only to alienate their cult following of the original.

I would consider purchasing this game if they reinstate the "Galactic Conquest" mode - the fact that they removed that along with space battles turned me off to Battlefront. Sure I'll still play it every now and again because I made the mistake of buying it but those are the two things I miss the most.

Add Clone Wars and Force Awakens era. There is no justification for leaving it out. The fact that Dice's Battlefront was only Original Trilogy era made it feel to me that it was immediately missing half the content of the originals and that's without going into all the other missing content like the aforementioned Galactic Conquest. Basically I loved tearing through the Republic army as a lone B1 Battle Droid, let me do that again pls.

There are a few instances I actually prefer Dice's efforts to the original, I like having customisable skins and weapons instead of load outs and the gameplay of Hero characters is much more refined (screw that timer) but they'll have to step it up if they want to match the original Battlefront II, not just one of the greatest Star Wars games but one of the greatest games around. They need a lot more single player content and less catering to the only Multi-player fanbase in modern gaming.

I think all they need to do is give single-players a campaign, and expand to a few new eras. Not shoehorn them all in so it becomes a mess, but I certianly enjoy playing as human soldiers rather than battle droids so I'm happy to leave the overdone Clone Wars and focus on Rebels/Empire again and maybe Resistance/First Order.

They could easily have Hero good guys like Rey, Finn and Poe and enemies Kylo, Hux and Phasma.

New worlds, a few new weapons....doing that I think they'd easily be onto more of a winner.

OH - and the rip-off DLC needs to be re-evaluated and give people things with the game rather than making them pay for content that should have already been in there.

In what way do you think the Clone Wars are overdone, Connor Harrison? I could believe that a few years ago but since the Disney take over and reboot, that entire era has been completely sidelined in favour of the Original Trilogy era. Most obviously is Force Awakens being a homage to the OT in so many ways but we had the fantastic Clone Wars TV show cancelled before it was done and replaced with the mediocre Rebels show set around the OT, all the comic books set in or around the OT era following OT characters and likewise with all the novels. (I believe we only got our first and only prequel era comic recently which is set before the Clone War) and of course there's Dice's OT only Battlefront. Not to mention the merch re-balancing in favour of the OT.

Don't get me wrong, the quality of the original trilogy stands far above that of the prequel trilogy but ignoring the poor dialogue, acting, CG etc... I enjoy the settings of the those films. There's a lot of cool world building and lore to the era which under better writers can flourish, as we saw with the last few seasons of the Clone Wars TV show. For someone like me who enjoys the clone wars era in that respect it feels as though the reboot has veered too far from that stuff. A refocus onto the OT is good but it seems to have come at the complete exclusion of any clone wars era stuff.

So I don't see why you wouldn't want it in there considering it was present in the original games and playing as Battle Droids has no effect beyond aesthetics (oh but they could survive underwater and in the vacuum of space in the original Battlefront II which was awesome). I'd argue that the Clone War is actually the most fitting time for a Battlefront game since that conflict had two evenly matched galactic superpowers fighting it out while large scale battles wasn't really something the Rebel Alliance did unless backed into a corner.

Totally agreed on the DLC though, the first two packs were cool but Death Star and Rogue One felt lacking. Bossk is probably my favourite Hero character to play as though, the main reason to get Death Star DLC.

even if Bossk is literally in the only film without a Death Star so I'm not sure why he's in the pack lol

Samka Derith Fair point indeed.

I'm not slating the CW era at all, I just mean with the amount of games that came out around 2002 to 2005 with Clone Wars era battles and gaming, and of course the film and TV side of things to go with it, I just feel they can't do anything...new. We;ve had starfighter games and shooting battle games and even platform games.

The fact they let us finally be the Rebels or Empire in scenes we dream about from the films has been amazing - they just didn't give us enough material, as in locations or character skins etc.

That's what they need to do. And work on TFA era with locations and skins too.

I guess that's all it comes down to. Having seen and experienced SO much of the CW era I'd love more from the OT and PT era with planets and characters and weapons and battles and vehicles. The lot. :)

As for DLC, I can't help feel let down by 'Rogue One' and 'Bespin' in some ways.

In gaming terms, that's a fair point. Even the original Battlefront II seemed to favour the Prequel era ever so slightly to cash in on the release of Revenge of the Sith. That point of time, Lucas was heavily involved and pushing prequel stuff where ever he could. Interviews with the man seem to suggest he favoured his more recent work in I, II and III. Heck he even stated his least liked Star Wars film is Empire Strikes Back which is... um an interesting choice. I just feel Disney have veered too heavily in the other direction in an attempt to convince people they're taking the franchise back to the classics. Again, I think it needed that refocus but they went about it too strong. There's been a drip of prequel and clone wars stuff coming back into things recently though which is a positive sign for me!

As for DLC, I can't help feel let down by 'Rogue One' and 'Bespin' in some ways.

Oh interesting, I really enjoyed Bespin as I thought those maps were wonderful <3 for me it was the Death Star pack which added just two very similar ground maps and the rest was fighter stuff which I'm not a fan of at all. Making the trench run was cool but you just get swarmed by TIEs constantly, it feels too chaotic. I think it would be more interesting if the Empire didn't know which Rebel ships were making the attack and had to keep an eye on the trenches instead of giant notification saying KILL THIS SHIP.

Oh! What I really wanted was extraction to come back in Bespin but instead of Rebels trying to escort unknown cargo it's the Empire escorting Han in carbonite with the Rebels trying to stop him. If only...

Samka Derith Ah yes that's fair. There's never a balance of the saga as a whole, it's the prequels or classics, and it feels like two sagas, not one big one. Which is a bit of a shame.

And yeah I agree with the Death Star DLC, and also the Scariff one with the ships - I hate when big glowing HUDs point you to the ships to get. You should have to use your brain and work together to take possible ships down, like the U-Wings; they're big enough to see even with a radar read-out so go get them and hope you find them in the debris, rather than just follow the big bright red target.

Bringing back the single player is a good step. Though how much they might lock behind the season pass or an ultimate edition is another thing to consider. For galactic conquest oh they could do so much with it now. It was great in Battfront II originally but now with better online support you could have it really be a massive chess game of moving your fleets, capturing the proper worlds for the best onus or getting the credits to really figure out what you need to take as a bonus into a battle. Space battles can likely improve a whole bunch as well so likely won't preorder it but I'll look to see. If the season pass isn't required to have a complete game it could be a better buy.

The full official trailer is here and first details about the game!

“We wanted to create a campaign that told a story we haven’t seen before in Star Wars,” Motive game director Mark Thompson said in a statement. “It was important for us to tell a new authentic story, one that gives players a brand-new perspective. By putting players in the boots of an elite member of the Imperial forces, we can show them what the battle was like from the other side.”

Battlefront II’s multiplayer, meanwhile, is once again developed by DICE, who developed the first game. Battlefront II’s multiplayer will span all three eras of Star Wars films and will have playable heroes and villains including Rey, Luke, Yoda, Darth Maul, and more. Modes will support up to 40 players, and maps announced so far include Yavin 4, Mos Eisley, and Starkiller Base.

Space battles will also return, and are in development by Criterion, who previously worked on the Burnout franchise as well as the X-Wing VR experience in the first Battlefront. EA says Battlefront II offers “high stakes dogfights” and with land and air vehicles, and players will be able to pilot ships including a First Order TIE Fighter, the Millennium Falcon, and more.

An Elite Trooper Deluxe Edition will be available for pre-order including upgrades to all trooper classes and access to the game three days early on November 14th. EA Access subscribers will be able to play as early as November 9th. Anyone who pre-orders Battlefront II will also receive The Last Jedi-themed content including “exclusive Kylo Ren and Rey themed looks” based on the characters’ appearances in the upcoming film.
