Long has it been since the Republic defended the Galaxy from darkness.
In ages past, the Republic controlled much of the known galaxy. Their fleets kept the peace and their soldiers defended justice; staving off the advances of the Sith and Imperial forces of the galaxy. Always they rose with the Jedi beside them to fight against tyranny and injustice. Yet ultimately they were deceived.
Darth Sidious infiltrated their government and declared himself Emperor after wiping out the Jedi. His Empire reigned for numerous years before it was defeated at the hands of the Alliance to restore the Republic. Then came the Gulag Plague and the darkness. Everything that had been fought for was once again lost. After the plague was eventually beaten back, and order restored, the Galactic Republic once again rose to prominence, a shining beacon in a dark time.
Yet this Republic, too, was infiltrated by the Dark Side. After numerous incidents of severe war crimes committed by several military leaders, another Chancellor rose to power and enacted a law which drew the Republic even closer to the brink of destruction. The One Sith seized upon this opportunity and eventually drove the final dagger into the heart of the Republic, scattering its pieces throughout the galaxy. Many went to the Galactic Alliance, and the few who held true to the Republic's original values remained together. They ventured into Wild Space to find a new home, regroup, and rebuild their Grand Republic.
This Republic Remnant is the fruit of their labor.
For years they wandered from planet to planet, with nothing but a handful of warships and several transport vessels. A new home was difficult to find in the shadow of what was. Eventually, they found Teth, which was largely abandoned, and settled a small base beneath one of the old temples. Doing this wasn't enough to settle their people. They needed food and a place for them to live. A few wild space worlds eventually welcomed them. There they were able to settle and form a new semblance of a Republic.
However, a semblance is not a government. New senators took power. A new Chancellor was elected and the Republic began to expand. New ships were commissioned. New soldiers were trained. The Republic began to grow but it lacked a central world that it could be centered upon. That's what led them to Ciomia, a backwater world, a dangerous one too, but with a natural planetary defense that made it highly defensible. There the Senate settled, and from there, the Republic spread, rising like a phoenix from the ashes of its former self.
In the name of democracy; in the name of the Republic, we fight to stem the tide of darkness.
As a faction, the Republic offers a diverse RP scene. Most people see the Republic as the Senate and the military. This is not inaccurate, but it's rather broad. We go beyond being simply a senate with guns at their disposal. We are a faction of people, and that's where we differ from most of the other factions out there. Rather than just being a vestibule for military conquest, we focus on our individuality. We accept anyone who is not a Sith or other form of openly darkside individual, which makes us a melting pot of ideas.
This works because of the Senate. The ultimate source of power in the Republic Remnant is the people who are duly elected, never appointed, by the citizens of member worlds. These people then elect a Chancellor from among their number to act as the physical face of the people of the Republic. This person issues orders to the various branches of government as directed by the senate, but holds no personal power other than as a senator themselves. They are merely the senate's representative to the galaxy.
Then there's the military. As shown in the section below, we have a diverse military. The Navy, the Army, and the Starfighter corp. All of these have specialized units and fleets which provide ample opportunity for individuals to find RP groups to stick with if they want, or to explore new avenues. We never turn anyone away from whatever position they wish to hold, though we do hold them accountable to Republic laws.
Beyond this we have the Jedi. While they have their order, they are not considered to be anything more than private citizens. They are free to enlist in the military or the senate, but never receive preferential treatment because of their status. If they abuse their abilities to manipulate people or enact street justice they are subject to the same laws as anyone else would be. They are, however, free to practice as they wish. Even the more neutral aligned Force Users are free to be as they will provided they aren't going to the dark or breaking the law.
We have plans in the future to enact other RP opportunities, such as a Judicial organization designed to police both the government and the people to uphold Republic laws, and the Republic Space Racing League, which will be a circuit throughout Republic space. The latter will have cup races which will earn special rank tags when all is said and done.
Ultimately we are a faction with brand recognition: The Republic. People recognize this name when they come here, and there are always new people looking to be a part of the Republic. Since our formation back in December, we've had several people new to the site join us right away and they've fit right in. We love that. This faction is meant to be a friendly place for new and old members to interact with each other and the rest of the galaxy, while giving people all the opportunity associated with the Republic. We do that by getting member input before making decisions. Our faction is not a dictatorship. It's a Republic both IC and OOC. The members have the ultimate say in who we are, and what they do.
The Republic Senate
Like its predecessor, the Remnant's version of the senate consists of senators and a chancellor. The chancellor is elected from the senate body by the individual senators. This position retains no more power than the individual senators, other than being the face of the senate and the one who directs proceedings. Ultimately he is the liaison between the Republic and the rest of the galaxy, but can make no decisions without majority support of the rest of the senate. There are two types of senators within the republic, those whose worlds are within Republic space, and those whose worlds are not. The latter are referred to as Senators in Absentia. They represent worlds who were, or desire to be, part of the Republic, but due to geographic restrictions cannot be. They are present for Senate proceedings, and may provide counsel, but they lack any voting power. The Senate holds all power in the Republic. No actions are taken without Senate approval.
The Republic Army
Like its predecessor, the Remnant maintains a full standing army made up of several different divisions ranging from armored to paratrooper. The Remnant recognizes a need to defend its worlds in a hostile galaxy and does not believe in the practice of disarmament because it is an invitation to destruction from the forces of Evil. This branch of the Republic is ever growing and changing, with new divisions constantly being added, including the Republic Rangers: an elite expeditionary force sent in prior to most Republic forces when conflict is entered, or sent in with special orders to complete outside the parameters of the rest of the military. The army is ultimately only what the people make of it.
The Republic Navy
The navy is the backbone of the Republic. Without these forces to defend her worlds, she remains vulnerable. Even the army relies on her to transport them to and from worlds. A strong navy is a strong deterrent to outside forces. A few of the admirals of the old Galactic Republic remained loyal and came with the Remnant forces, ultimately being responsible for the training of new admirals to be their replacements. This fighting force has taken a vow to be stronger and more tactically sound than its predecessor, and will not make excuses for failure. The men and women of the navy are greatly admired, as are all members of the Remnant military.
Republic Starfighter Corp
The starfighter corp exists as its own entity separate from the navy because of its propensity to also include planetary fighter defense forces. These pilots are not necessarily tied to naval vessels, though they can be, and possess their own elite units of pilot commandos, planetary defense forces, and space combat forces. The Remnant relies on its fighter pilots to be the front line of defense, often engaging the enemy before any capital ship enters the battle, and providing picketing forces along the perimeter of Remnant space. Starfighter pilots are often revered above and beyond the soldiers of the army and officers of the navy because of their bravery. The Republic's elite starfighter squadron is Spectre/White Squadron. Spectre is little known, but White is the public face of the squadron.
The Jedi Order of the Republic Remnant is an order in transition. When the Galactic Republic fell, many Jedi joined other factions or scattered to unknown places. Now, however, with the establishment of the Republic Remnant, many Jedi, both new and old, are gathering at the Nadiem Jedi Enclave to continue on in service to the Republic. While they serve the Republic they are no longer considered a special class of citizen. The Jedi Order serves the Republic Remnant and the Galaxy in the name of the lightside of the force following a more traditional path.
