Darth Animus was a man who believed learning and true understanding could not be done from the relative safety of a classroom. To become stronger, one had to throw yourself against the perils of the galaxy, and trust your instincts to survive. The few apprentices he had trained since the fall of Kalee had not fared well under his tutelage. Either falling to the threats of the galaxy Animus had them face, or falling to their Masters own blade for their failings.

This new one he hoped would be different. He showed promise, though his talents seemed to follow more along the path of the sorcerer and assassin, rather than the warrior. This was not truly an issue, one could learn anything they wanted in their free time if they put their mind to it. Though, he doubted it would matter as much as that learned in the field.

Turning away from the freighters controls, Animus walked out of the cockpit, grabbing his mask and pulling it on before walking down to the cargo hold where his apprentice was waiting. He had kept most of the information on their trip a secret, and figured now was the time to let him know.

"Apprentice, we are approaching a mining station as we speak. It is a small facility, with less than a hundred people aboard. However, among their ranks is a Sith defector of the New Sith Order. They have escaped the purge of the old regime, and are trying to hide out here. One of the miners let us know, asking for payment in exchange for the information. We will kill them both before the day is done. This mission serves a second purpose. More then just ridding the galaxy of a traitor, it will be your first true test as my apprentice. I will be watching your actions closely, and judging your decisions. If you survive this, I will know what to focus on first when we begin your training."

][ Inside Animus' Ship; Unknown Mining Station ][

The trip was long and boring in the cargo hold. It was also hot simply for the fact that he wore his usual all black outfit. The leather on the handle of his vibrosword burned his pale hand and turned it a bright pink color as he took a deep breath to ebb the pain for only moment. The red hot feeling only increased while his skin tugged between leather and bone as his grip tightened around the hilt.

He spent most of his time meditating in the center of the hold, kneeling with his hands on his thighs. His weight shifted forward while his shoulders never hunched and his posture remained perfectly straight. His knees digging into the metal floors beneath him, joints eventually screaming for a reprieve that he would not grant. Instead of relaxing or reaching out, he focused inward, assessing his body and mind and making minor repairs where he could to ensure that his overall health was hardly affected by his mere exposure to the Dark Side of the Force.

That, in fact, was what he was doing when Darth Animus came down to retrieve him for their mission.

He was meditating, focused on himself while still remaining alert of his surroundings. He could hear and feel Animus descend the stairs and enter the room. The shift in the Force was evidence enough without his heightened sense relaying information back to him.

His eyes opened as he listened to his Master explain their — his — reason for being here. It was quite the interesting task. A defector and a loud mouth miner, how entertaining. Two victims in a day, quite the lovely change of pace. He only nodded his own understanding before he gingerly stood to his feet, knees groaning and popping in protest to his progress.

He turned around to face the Sith Lord.

“Are there any restrictions on how I dispose of these two or am I welcome to my own vices?”

His lips found the satisfaction in smirking as his hands dropped to his sides and grazed over the hilt of the vibrosword on his right hip.

"What you do, and how you do it do not concern me at this time. Your only objective is to deal with the traitor and "reward" the informant. I will be judging you on how you complete the task at hand, your only limitation is not dying. It would annoy me greatly if I had to find yet another apprentice so soon." When he was finished speaking he turned away from Kyrinov, beginning to walk towards the ramp of the freighter as they began their final approach. Just as he got to the door, he turned to look back at his apprentice, glancing down briefly to the weapon at his hip.

"If you do well, we shall see about getting you a proper Sith blade." Just as he finished speaking, the whole freighter shook briefly, signalling that they had landed. Thumbing the command console on the side of the hangar, a small ramp sprung to life, slowly lowering from its waiting compartment. Steam shot out from ramp as it touched down on the hangar. At the bottom of the ramp, two security guards stood with disinterested looks, their eyes widening as Darth Animus descended, his black robes a stark contrast to the standard grey and white of the rest of the facility.

"You are not scheduled to be here. Do you have any landing per..." The man's words were cut off as Animus's left hand shot out, wrapping around the mans throat and lifting him off the ground. The other guard stumbled back, reaching for the pistol at his hip before his whole body jerked, Animus's saberstaff protruding unactivated from his gut. As the first body fell to the ground, Animus turned back to the man in his hand, looking at him flail weakly, before sending a single burst of Force energy up his hand into the mans neck. He dropped the headless corpse then, wiping the blood from the visor of his mask as he turned back to his apprentice.

"No witnesses."

Again, he nodded and spoke briefly in reply.

“Lovely. I’ll try to escape in one piece,” he joked.

He mumbled under his breath,Can’t promise the same for these victims.

He saw Animus move out of the room and took that as a more silent cue to follow suite. They walked upstairs and to the hatch where the ramp would eventually drop down once they landed in the hangar bay of the mining station. He tilted his head, cocked it, upon hearing his Master’s comment on his weapon.

“Oh, I have a saber,” he paused and smiled.

“I prefer this sword, in all honesty. I’d rather feel a victim give away under it than swing a lightsaber and cleave some poor wretch in two… Plus, it’s far more satisfying and it keeps me strong. It’s also more fun to cut something and watch the blood run.”

Kyrinov followed beyond Animus once the ramp touched with the platform of the bay floor. Once his Master engaged the guards, he continued to walk in his straight path towards the corridor that led into the facility itself and counted to three.

By the time he reached three, Animus was striding ahead of him by a few paces while looking back at him. No witnesses. He could deal with that, he’d never left any before now. He certainly wouldn’t start today.

They continued on for several minutes before the Knight paused in his tracks. Waiting, listening, reaching out, feeling.

Workers and security personnel alike littered the halls of the mining facility. The two Sith had arrived during the night shift, with most of the workers and guards in their bunks. Once the alarms began going off across the facility, they came rushing out into the halls to see what was going on. Such a thing only brought them into the path of the Sith's blades. Guards and workers alike were cut down in their dozens, their bodies littering the floor as the two pushed further into the facility.

As another worker came rushing out into the hall, Animus stopped his blade mid slash, the crimson blade barely an inch from the mans neck. Twirling his saberstaff, he brought the blades back away from the man before turning to Kyrinov and instructing his apprentice. "Apprentice, this man is the one who brought us the information of the defector. Please, if you would, escort him to...safety and ensure he has told us everything. I will return shortly."

With a final nod, Animus turned and began walking into one of the barracks wings, blaster fire erupting within.

He smirked as chaos erupted around them. Miners and guards rushed about in a panic only to be cut down in a swirl of plasma and steel, dancing together in a duet of deadly grace and precision.

It was beautiful to his eye, the raw efficiency of it all.

The adrenaline that coursed through his vines.

The sting and toll as skin and bone clashed with metal and collapsed under the pressure.

Then, it was over and he received his instructions from his Master.

With a bit of reluctance, he sheathed his vibrosword and led the miner into a secure barrack that they'd cleared already. He stopped and let the miner out of his pale grip. He looked down at the miner as he began to question the stout figure in front of him.

"Have you told us all you know about the defector?"

"N-no. The defector, as you say, is disguised as a guard... Only female guard in these parts of the mining facility."

"That all?" The miner shook his pudgy head in response. Kyrinov sighed, he had little patience for this type of hesitancy when he wasn't trying to wrench the truth out of a victim. "Then tell me everything, and quickly, before I decide to withhold your reward."

"Alright, alright. Long as I get my credits. She should be in the wing we just left. If you don't find her, the other Sith will. But, I promise you, that's all I know. Now, can I ge-", his voice was cut off by a deep gurgle as he was stabbed in the stomach and then through the neck as Kyrinov grimaced while the light faded from those deep set brown eyes.

He wiped off his blade with a cloth he found on a guard and sheathed the sword as he made his way back to Animus' side inside the wing he'd left before.

"The defector is female. She's disguised as a guard in our area," his voice trailed off as he reached out. "... And she is right down the hall from us, in a frenzy, it seems."

His lips curled into a predatory smile. "Shall we?"
