#1922237 Invasion Recalls

Posted by Jay Scott Clark on 10 March 2019 - 08:25 PM

I do alot of stupid stuff publicly. Other people do alot of stupid stuff publicly. Sure. But If we start making rules about every little thing that annoys us, we'll all die of stupidity.

I say nah. It's mostly a people thing anyway. :D :P

We see that all the time with writers, so whats the difference?

I guess I should have been more specific in my ending question. I think I'll add the words ", in PvP." so more people know that I'm not just talking about shenanigans in general. Good catch. :P

As someone who back in the day actually faced off against another player using a giant flying fire-breathing, force-using lizard. It was funny to see the species get unbanned recently. However, I also felt rather joyful of it too. Mostly because since then, I've gotten rather good at fighting dragons. Especially in a symbolic sense. As a writer and as a director.

See. Fighting a dragon in pvp isn't very different from fighting anything else in pvp. There's the stage. The characters. And your infinite imagination. Infinite possibilities. Just like in every other fight. I mean. Sure, you can say that when fighting a dragon there are wildly terrifying things present such as the heavy weight class, the fire breathing death, it's flying annoyance, and it's always impenetrably tough iron scales that you have to overcome? But. Really. Isn't that the same when fighting a Mando too? Think about it. They're bigger, badder, impenetrable, fire-breathing, flying professional hunters. Just like the spirit of a dragon. Heck. It might be easy to get the two confused when you think about it that way. After all. What is a dragon? What makes something really really, a dragon?

Well. Perhaps a dragon is what every apex predator has in common? A giant fire-breathing combination of every scary thing we can think up. They are as scary, and as fierce, and as indomitable as we can make them. Especially in mythology. Ancient and modern mythology. Heck. Just calling a man a dragon and you've probably just elevated them to one scary, powerful place. After all. Dragons do it all. They do everything good. And rightly so. Because anything less then the best, the most teeth, the most claws, the most terrifying; and it's really not a dragon anymore is it? It's,.. Well. It's more of just a lizard then isn't it. Something we keep as pets or deal with like bugs or pests. No. Not very dragon'y at all.

So this begs the question. How do you fight a dragon in pvp? And I'd say. Well, probably just like everything else. You take hits, you build a drama. You both have big awesome moments of power and both give each other gaping holes of vulnerability. You sling bullets, lasers, rocks, or Force'y magical powers at each other like two drunk men boxing in a thunderstorm. No biggie.

However. I also remember that dragons got banned for a reason. People, myself included, thought they were a bit OP. Especially Force-sensitive dragons with thousands of years under their belt. So I've decided to open a discussion for the community about how we can prepare ourselves a bit better for when these giant flying creatures start taking to the battlefields en masse. (Though, admittedly, giant sithspawn and towering robots will probably always outnumber them.) So yeah. Let's do this like a round table. Because we could all use some cool ideas anyway.

Q: How would you, as a Star Wars fan writer, go about fighting a dragon (in pvp)?

Audren Sykes - We awesome. You awesome. Kill it. :D

Darth Carnifex - I promise. :P

Dirks Hutchinson - Thanks Dirks. *bro fist* :)

Coci Heavenshield - I love it and will cherish it forever. Love ya gal. :D

Gilamar Skirata - I can be your hero bby. I can kiss away your tears.

Darth Metus - We learned then as we know now, that building a winning community was more than just building a "winning faction". You taught me that. And we've never stopped winning since. :D

Strider Garon - Yeah, but if we partied together IC? Man oh man. Val would have to give us both like, 10 warning points. Each. For pure inappropriate awesomeness. :D

#1921065 How to create a Force User?

Posted by Jay Scott Clark on 06 March 2019 - 03:42 PM

Ryan - A few things. Building for sandbox and Pvp. And, building for Character and building for Stats.

Private Sandbox: - For Pve, private threads, or just RPing with close friends. It doesn't matter. Be as strong and as god-like as you want. In a private thread or a personal storyline. You can be whatever you want to be. Blow Anakin Skywalker, Rey, or Kylo out of the water. Make the EU's Aboleth look like bathroom tissue. Whatever. Nobody cares. Anything goes as long as you and your writing buddies are having fun in your own little private thread.

PvP: - Second, however. Pvp. Here you got to have some give. In Pvp you can't go around playing God and smashing Padawans or Stormtroopers or Mandos like they're candy. Instead, you've to communicate with your partners about how to build a fun, balanced, and moderate theater. In Pvp, less is more.

Character Writing: - For character writing your thinking about people. Theater. Drama. Strengths of personalities. Lifestyles. Hardships and birthrights. Careers, life goals, hobbies, and passions. Everything that makes a real person, a real person. Build a person, give them dreams and goal, hardships, hatreds, and disadvantages. Soon. They will write themselves. Guided by the light you've given them.

Video Game Stats: - Building for stats means thinking about RP as a video game. Levels, XP, Hit Points, Attribute Modifers, and DnD cliche's. This is fine as long as you remember that writing fan fiction has none of these things. They are scaffolding and outlines for your character at best. At worst, you are just limiting yourself, your imagination, and the number of people who will care about your writing. So by all means. Think of your character as pure math if you must. But always remember that good theater never needed damage modifiers, meta builds, or legendary loot tables.

Darth Metus

Did you get any rewards from the Reckoning mode? I had a Sentry Mote in my inventory but didn't get any armor when I touched the Bank thing? Lulz. :P

Nevermind. I joined an event in progress. I guess you need to drop the mote into the Bank at the beginning of the event. Not the end. Lulz.

And yeah. My first Forge was day one at like 600 power. That was before they dropped the Light Level on the first forge and everybody was getting wiped by the adds in seconds. Bleh. I never took to the Forge mode much since. Still haven't gotten my Galliard 42 X4000 yet either. Poo.

#1920850 Destiny 2: Season of the Drifter

Posted by Jay Scott Clark on 05 March 2019 - 11:14 PM

Jumped back into Destiny today for Season 6. Got to try out the new game modes, Reckoning and Gambit Prime. Thusly,

Gambit Prime: - It was fun enough that I played five games. Sadly, I played with randoms and, (since it's brand new today,) nobody had the Four Designated Roles armor sets yet. But it was still fun. Adds had tons of health, goblins cast invulnerable shields, and you die just as fast too. Sadly, I hated how long it took to DPS the Primeval Boss. Usually three whole waves. Meanwhile, the invader from the other team can seriously ruin your progress. Adding huge amounts of heath back to the boss when he gets kills. Also, the 3rd Envoy drops his damage well in really stupid places. Either too close to the Prime or too far away.

Final Thoughts: - 9/10. With the Four Designated Roles armor sets and a good solid team of friends, I can see this being a blast. Just remember Rule 1: Don't get killed by the invader. Alright, alright, alright.

Reckoning: - I actually did this Public Event inside the Drifter's Spaceship just once. It was crazy confusing, the level design was wacko, the adds kept coming in swarms of dozens, and you have to jump into huge pits to teleport around the continent. So weird. And all I got for loot after killing the Champion and winning the event was a Blue Uncommon. Bug maybe?

Final Thoughts: - 8/10. Read the world buffs and bring a gun for add spam. I had Breakneck and Thunderlord and did just fine. Here's hoping Tier 2 and 3 are harder than Tier 1.
