1) Use signature weapons/techniques, things that mean something to your character at a personal level and can become iconic. More, they can help your character be distinct and memorable - part of what Jim Butcher refers to as traits. Tathra with his axe is probably the most prominent Chaos example.

2) Get scars. Scars are awesome. Scars convey experience, competence, toughness, and willingness to take hits/be good at sportsmanship. Make lists of your characters' scars as identifying marks in bios. Heck, lose a hand once in a while. For example, I'd argue this is a major reason that Carnifex has enjoyed the success he has: he takes serious, even grotesque, scars from all kinds of fights. If you fight Carnifex well, you leave your mark.

3) Take measured hits. Avoiding every hit sucks, even if there's a power imbalance and you can see what seems like a reasonable way to do it. Be sportsmanlike.

4) Fail forward. Take hits in ways that make cool things happen. Sometimes that means losing, but losing a fight is often more satisfying and fun than winning.
