Galactic Illusionary Gaming would like to welcome back all our players and collectors to our preview series. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we do regret to begin this preview by informing our loyal player base that Clans of the Resol'nare has been delayed as the design and art team assigned to the project want more time to finetune the experience. However, that does not mean a new expansion will not be forthcoming. Our main design team has been hard at work on building out one of the largest expansions and overhauls for Age of Chaos that the company has ever undertaken.
The company would like to present Age of Chaos: The Great Struggle, a massive expansion set based upon the galaxy-spanning Second Great Hyperspace War. We at GCG have been hard at work developing this set, in cooperation with various partners, to accurately capture the events, factions, heroes, and villains that were embroiled in this galactic conflict. As part of today's announcement, we will be taking a quick look at some of the upcoming cards in the set that represent planets that were sites of key conflicts and crises of the Second Great Hyperspace War and a small sneak peek at cards based upon the brave souls of the Galactic Alliance.
Sixteen planets were chosen to be included into this set, the largest number we have ever included in any one expansion. Some of these planets will be familiar to our players, albeit with new or improved abilities, or are brand new to Age of Chaos. For the purposes of today's preview, we will only be revealing eight of these cards:
As everyone can see, starting in The Great Struggle, Planet cards will no longer be limited to just Gold, but can be any color. The design team for The Great Struggle found that players would better construct their decks around Planet cards with greater synergy if they shared colors within the deck, rather than how we previously designed them. Of the eight cards revealed above, seven of the cards are improvements upon older Planet cards from previous sets or constructed decks. Coruscant and Bastion from Galaxy at War, Csilla from Maw of Annihilation, Tython and Ilum from Light of Ashla, Exegol from Darkness of Bogan, and Jakku from our Pilgrims of the Unknown Structure Deck. Empress Teta, site of two major battles of the Second Great Hyperspace War, is our first new addition to our Planet cards in this set but is certainly not the only new addition.
Moving onto the second part of today's preview, we will briefly touch upon the cards based on the Galactic Alliance and the Jedi of the New Jedi Order. For The Great Struggle, the design team has been working on reprinting and improving some of the existing cards from previous sets that showcase the Alliance such as:
As shown, the Alliance Infantryman card on the left, designed back in Galaxy at War, has been altered for its inclusion into The Great Struggle. The version releasing in The Great Struggle will be replacing the card in Galaxy at War boosters once the new set releases. As per our usual policy when it comes to reprints, players are encouraged to send in their older cards to receive the new versions if they so desire. However, our players and readers might notice that the new version of this card has an italicized keyword ability called Alliance.
For the design of The Great Struggle, the team wanted to introduce new mechanics that are specially tied to each of the factions that participated in the war. Factions that were heavily involved in the conflict such as the Alliance, the Empire, and the Brotherhood of the Maw will be receiving two of these new keyword abilities while smaller factions will be only be recieving one if any. We at GCG felt it was appropriate to highlight the major factions first, and today we will be showcasing the mechanics for the Galactic Alliance. For the GA, the design for the expansion settled on the two new keywords of Alliance and Adaptive.
Alliance - Whenever another Alliance Being card enters the field, the designated effect will trigger. However, on some cards with Alliance, we have included a secondary effect that when Alliance triggers a second time, a more powerful version of the ability will trigger. This ability was included due to the underlying principles of the Galactic Alliance to support each other through both prosperity and times of strife.
Adaptive - When this card enters the field, place one of two different types of counters on this card. This ability was included due to the Alliance's penchant for adapting to situations on the battlefield and the innovative heart that beats within the Jedi Order and the GADF.
We hope you will have enjoyed this brief preview of what is to come. In our next preview release, we discuss some of the upcoming changes we are making to the structure and mechanics of the game to better streamline and enhance the experience of playing Age of Chaos.
