With Emperor Rurik Fel killed during the Battle of Tython, leaving an empty throne in his wake, a rising tide of Chiss nationalism engulfs the worlds on the western frontier, fueled and funded by agents unknown to Imperial intelligence at the time. The so-called Chiss Reclamation emerges from the shadows to strike at the Empire in its moment of bleeding weakness.
As the western frontier succumbs to flames, the Empire finally halts the Chiss blitz through the sector before launching a counter-attack to reclaim the fallen worlds. The Reclamation's momentum is broken and their fortunes are reversed as the Empire brutally assaults every remaining holdout and uproots resistance cells operating on Imperial worlds.
Public executions of the main leaders behind the failed uprising are being staged across the Empire, to be followed by introductory efforts to establish interment camps of those suspected of either direct or indirect association to the late movement. A massive industrial, economic, and military rejuvenation is underway within the Western Frontier - providing ample opportunity for those who wish to profit from the process, while at the same time serving as the prime backdrop for the ascension of those crucial to the success of the Empire's operation.
While the Empire appears to be heading toward a brighter future in the wake of its Age of Strife, only a handful within the Empire are aware of a certain... shadow cast upon it; a feeling welling up underneath, indicating that something more sinister may well be at work behind the scenes. Despite the festive air stretching across the Empire as Defiance Day approaches, many such key members of the Imperial Elite enter the season with bated breath.
