"There's nothing you could have done." The man said, leaning back in his seat.

"I know, but it still feels like I could have." The other man replied, sitting next to him.

They sat on a hill, overlooking a wide forest. Instead of the green and brown usually associated with forests, the background was a staticy black and white, looking unnatural, yet, looking so nostalgic. If only they were here to see this view... on each tree was a colored hand, right on the trunk. Each hand was a different color, standing out in stark contrast to the black and white background around it.

"You know how these things go."

"I wish it didn't have to be this way."

"For as long as we and they exist, you know what we must do. We must remain in the Gestalt." The older man said.

"I just wish they could see this..." The other man said, watching the black sun set behind the forest.

"You know they wouldn't be able to understand. Not until they change." The older man told him.

Both of them sat there for a minute, before the younger man said, "I wish it would change. But I'm not sure if they can."

The Spiral continues." The older man shrugged. "Always been that way, no changing it."

The younger man sighed. "The spiral continues." He said.

And both of them sat there, watching, as the cycle repeated itself once more.
