"Inexperience, and a gut feeling. Those ships were packing jammers that could throw off even military grade hardware. Scrappers don't use that kind of tech. I figured a warning shot would scare them off. They instead, opened fire."
"And were they scrappers? Reports are inconclusive at this time."
"They weren't. Thus far, we've processed a few from the ship that the Blazing Dawn disabled with ion rounds, and they've admitted under oath to being part of a pirate crew that was intending to use the former Imperial ships as bulwarks of their new fleet."
"I see. And what of these pirates? Any word on their whereabouts?"
"They seem to be the same crew that's working with the Hutts. They've hit a few targets on our borders, but it's really not possible to pin them their at this point. The GA's sector fleets are focused on the Sith."
"You believe we can't protect ourselves?"
"We can. With the new Hyperspace Security Bill, the GADF has never been more capable of doing so. It's just a matter of waiting until they strike next."
"And what of the survivors of the attack over Empress Teta? The dead?"
"We didn't lose a single soul. Two Corvettes were evacuated and scuttled, but they're being rebuild as we speak. Aid ships are still within the core, providing relief as we speak. Thirteen wounded, and they were all recovered and treated within the fleet itself."
"So this skirmish didn't delay anything?"
"Not really, no. It was bound to happen, given the circumstances, and we held the line. It was either going to be pirates, or Imperial Warlords, and I'm happy it was pirates."
