Kesran Opadal: The Journey So Far

As the ship was in hyperspace, Kesran shook off his hyper lag symptoms and walked up to the cockpit. The Nautolan and his droid were doing their menial tasks when they both noticed him walk in. "The droid buzzed & beeped in happiness of seeing the boy". Kesran had never owned a droid, just knew some that lived in the slums with the rest of them. "Hey buddy", said Kesran as he responded to the droid. The Nautolan then turned back around and spoke in his accented basic, "So kid, why were you trying to get offworld, hmmm". "Well, my....friend was killed by Malgori thugs and I escaped before they could kill me too". "We were going to buy passage on one of the refugee ships". The Nautolan, making no revealing face expressions, responded, "hmmm", then turned back around to his control console. "The droid beeped to signify a question". "No, I lived on Bakura my whole life". "This is my first time in space". Kesran felt a bit awkward so he asked the Nautolan his name. "Dresk Mikko, at your service", spoke the Nautolan. "a pleasure, and I'm Kesran by the way". "Kesran, hmmm, you got a nickname kid", spoke Mikko. "A couple of my friends planet side called me Kes". "That ill do, well Kes, I'm not a valet service, your on my ship now, alright, so you follow my word, got it kid". Kesran immediately spoke, "Who said I was staying on your ship". "I did", exclaimed Dresk. "You want passage to somewhere, you gotta stay with me for a time, besides, I think you want to see some of the galaxy". Kesran made a half smile, "Yeah, I do a bit". "Fine Ill stay, but you do have to promise to bring me to my destination once you don't need me anymore". "Ha!" Its a deal kid". "R4 buzzed in happiness". Kesran turned to R4, "Thanks buddy, I think ill enjoy it". "Oh trust me kid, you will", responded Dresk. He got up and walked towards Kesran, "Come on kid, ill show you the ship, formally, haha". As they walked to the back of ship, Dresk asked, "So, you have any family left, or was it just that old guy you were with?". "My parents died a while ago, and I've lived alone ever since, in the alleyways and slums so forth". "Ah a street rat I see". Kesran snapped, "I'm not a street rat!" "Alright kid, I get it". As he showed Kesran the cargo hold and then sleeping quarters, he exclaimed, "This is nice, hope you don't snore". "Oh, haha!" "You don't sleep there kid", spoke Dresk. "Your going to be staying in the seating area, don't worry, we'll find you a mattress". "Why can't I stay in the other bed?" "Cause I don't know you, and second you could kill me and take the ship". "Hey, perhaps", Kesran said with a slight grin. "I like you already kid". mentioned Dresk as he chuckled and continued on. As Dresk finished his little tour, "Well kid, that's the ship, your new home for now". "I see you customized it lot", said Kesran still gazing at the modifications Dresk had made. "Yes, it needed a bit of...upgrade". "Now she does just fine, ain't that right R4". "R4 beeped agreeably back to Dresk". Kesran than walked back to his new quarters, "Guess I better get working on my new room". "Yes I think you should", said Dresk. "R4, how close to Koda Station". "One more jump? Thanks R4". As the droid beeped, Kesran came back up the cockpit, "Koda Station, where is that, sounds out of the way". "It is my young friend, it is in the Wazta Sector, and is basically on edge of the known Galaxy". "Many idiotic spacers who hope to find the galaxy where the Yuuzhan Vong originate, travel to Koda Station and out into the unknown, most never come back and the ones who do are usually half their ships and half their numbers". Kesran being overwhelmed with new information, "The Yuuzhan Vong, my mentor mentioned them". "What are they like, they sound fascinating". "Oh I wouldn't know kid, I've only seen one, and it was from a distance". "Lets just say, they are frightening". Dresk now looking at Kesran oddly asked, "Who is this mentor you speak of?" "He was my friend who died as I escaped Bakura". feeling a bit sad for the boy, Dresk replied, "Oh sorry". After a short silence between the two, Dresk exclaimed, "Here, ill show you the Holomap, R4 pull out the map of the galaxy and bring it into the hold". As R4 brought the digital map and then displayed it, Kesran was already in awe, "Wow", said the youngster. "I know, its a lot of planets". After a while of Kesran asking questions about the galaxy, planets, peoples, etc and with Dresk & R4 trying to answer them, he asked his final, "So if Koda is so out of the way, why are we headed there?". "Because kid, there is someone there I need". Kesran looked a bit puzzled, "Need for what?". Dresk paused, not wanting more story time with Kesran, "Ill tell you when we are close, its gonna be another 3 hours, so go rest up, and you can use the other berth if you want". Smiling, Kesran nodded, "Thanks Dresk, you know what, I think I like it out here already". Laughing, "Haha, kid I knew you were born for this, welcome to the galaxy big shot".
