The Holocron of Ren opens to the visiter seeking it's knowledge and wisdom. The device finding the being worthy to divulge in it's secrets. The diamond shape of the Holocron slowly opens, a blue form arises showing the man known as Kyrel Ren. Adorned in his black and silver armor, a blood-red cloak draped around his neck, the burning yellow eyes stares down as if in curiosity. As if in a pensive gaze. In deep thought. As if wondering what to speak to the being before him. A slow smile began to form one that came as if greeting an old friend, slowly disappearing.
"Ah, I've seen you returned... Seeking to gain more of my knowledge, perhaps you were looking for something? Something such as power in the Force, perhaps lightsaber techniques. I am afraid I cannot give you such things... Not yet, for if you want such power, first you must understand who and what I am, where I come from. What a Knight of Ren means. There have been different meanings to what a "Knight of Ren" truly is, over time I will reveal many of it's aspects to you. It is why you have found me yes? You found yourself lost within the teachings of the Jedi and Sith alike, you wanted something new, different perhaps. Where should I begin? Perhaps I shall start with answering what must be going through your mind at the very moment.... What are the Ren... How are they any different than the Jedi and Sith alike? I will say that is a very long story. In this lesson, perhaps even spanning several lessons and histories. I will see if I can provide some measure of clarity on what it means to be a Knight of Ren. For I myself in many of my days have wondered what it all meant, and why I alone am responsible for preserving them.
In my journey of discovery. I alone found out that the Knights had taken many forms throughout history, but history aside for the moment. I discovered the Knights of Ren started deep within the Unknown Regions vast and scattered alien settlements, ones that remain an enigma even to this very day as legend and myth. The Knights of Ren from what I could decipher from these myths and legends. Was something akin to a nomadic tribe of Dark Side Adepts? Often traveling untrained in the use of the Force, using its gifts in a small capacity to raid villages, towns, and sometimes even entire systems. Taking what they wished.
In my search for history to see if t was nothing more than legend. I came across the discovery that the philosophy the Ren carried was similar to another dark side cult of the Unknown Regions. A group only is known as the Sorcerers of Rhand. Such a group did not view the Force as two sides, they did not believe in the Ashla or the Bogen. They only viewed one absolute power as the Dark. Worshipping the death and decay of life. Believing that by harnassing the darkness would grant them celestial abilities beyond what powers we have seen with the Force. It has come to my attention I believe that there was perhaps a schism within the group. That someone or even a group left the Sorcerers and traveled elsewhere, where they ended up was with a people where savagery and destruction was king. In this is where the Knights of Ren of the legend came to be, a band of marauders skilled in some use of the dark side raiding and plundering nearby systems for what they wanted, what they desired believing in what they viewed the dark side as what they only called. "The Shadow"
The Knights believed that the "Shadow" was the core behind everything they did, from raiding and plundering to moving on to new territories. The Shadow was regarded in it's own view of the Force, for the Knights did see the threat of the Light Side, as there are some rumors that Jedi that journeyed deep into space had encounters with the nomadic marauders. The Shadow was what they believed as giving them strength, the source of power for them. Unlike the Sith they did not seek to dominate the shadow, only to be given it's gifts and powers and in return, they believed the Shadow required an offering or a sacrifice or sorts, that offering was to be made in fire and blood. In destruction would feed the long grasp of the Shadow and reward the Knights with immense power without apology, compromise, or remorse of whoever would be the target of said offering. Be it guilty or innocent the Knights did what was demanded to appease the Shadow, for the Knights what made them stand out apart from the Sith, or a common Dark Jedi was that they desired not to use their view of the dark side for total domination, but seek to serve it, to feed it so that it may encompass all that stood in its way and be rewarded. Hence the nomadic way of life and numerous legends it spawned from trying to achieve such a goal.
While the Knights had a ritualistic sense with taking on a task. Often viewing plundering and burning down anyone and anything in they're path as a holy rite to serving in the goals of the Shadow. When accepting someone to their ranks they required someone who could touch the shadow. Not only did they require a Force User, but said initiate had to perform a "Good Death" Meaning that the initiate had to kill someone who was close to them. As if said act would earn the respect and trust of the Ren.
Many have wondered behind the unusual reason for the Knight's mysterious, rustic, and often at times disturbing appearance. As a band of dark side wielding nomadic warriors, most have kept their faces concealed behind a mask of sorts. Often intimidating their enemies and cementing the bogeyman myths of old. For by showing any ounce of humanity when serving the shadow diluted the point of causing chaos, however that did not go without saying that they always kept the masks on, only a requirement when a mission was carried out in the ritualistic raids and slaughter they conducted. Trophies were encouraged as a piece of their armor often held a trophy of some kind believing in a mantra of "Keeping what you kill." For it was one of Ren's standards practices. This also included weapons from the most highly esteemed foes carried as in a way of honor to them.
The meaning of "Ren" Is often debated as well, some believe it is similar to the origins of the Sith's use in the Darth title. For the Knights, the term Ren is dated back to the original people before the Knights, some say it belonged to the being that founded them. "Ren" being defined throughout millennia as the meaning for their barbaric philosophy, that taking such a name showed that you have sacrificed even your name in serving the Shadow. Much to the similar influence, the Sith had themselves with the Darth title. Ren also being short to describe the philosophy of the "Way of Shadow."
The Ren throughout the centuries has also been described to serve as mercenaries in the Unknown Regions, being greatly feared for plundering those around them and seeking destruction in service to their views. Those that had ball bearings or the credits to afford their services did so at their own peril. While the Knights accepted most contracts just because they took any chance to serve their own goals, it was often risky business in dealing with them. Despite providing results if any employer crossed them, they were no doubt met a vicious and violent end.
The Knights of Ren have held many histories, and many faces, but the true Knights of Ren were sadistic, barbaric, and often mysterious serving their own view of the dark side. Be it for some small-time mercenary work to gain credits, or to enact larger goals of there own. Do know that the Knights are not Sith, not Jedi, not even Dark Jedi. But monsters of a different breed. One of many of the great mysteries of the Unknown Regions. One that has been through migration and conflict for millennia. This is only a taste of many of it's teachings. If you are ready to learn I will indulge in more, for with my teachings my people. My way of life will not die with a whimper. For you, you are the path to the future. You will follow the path of the Ren, you are the Shadow that will eclipse both the Jedi and the Sith. You are the dark hammer that will bend the galaxy to the will of the Shadow. Tell me do you wish to serve the Shadow?"
