S O V E R E I G N

To my illustrious colleagues, the representatives of Falleen, Rishi, Fondor, and Linuri;

We are all too aware that in recent years, the Confederacy has lost sight of its way.

As tyranny and nepotism sit like a canker in the Presidium and apathy overtakes our own legislative body, we are seeing the slow surrendering of the cornerstone values that once upheld our great nation. Freedom. Sovereignty. Independence.

This is not any right that requires are charter or preamble for which we must look, point, and say, "here it is." The promise of independence from the corrupt and exploitative Core, from the roaming savages of Wild Space, and from the various tyrannical governments under which our brethren in the galaxy suffer is a promise inscribed in the name of our great nation itself. The Confederacy of Independent Systems is a promise that each world is free to pursue their own destiny and come together as a collective for the betterment of all.

Yet that promise, it seems, is being more and more withheld from those who wanted it.

We saw these first vestiges from the executive order that unleashed the Confederacy First doctrine upon the galaxy. I ask; what Viceroy introduced that legislation that interrupted our trade, our commerce, our freedom of movement? What legislative body approved it? What sovereign planet ratified it? The answer, as you all know, is that none of them did. These were introduced and set into law by the Presidium, a breach of our charter and constitution.

Our Vicelord and his body of officials have continually violated the terms on which the Confederacy has been founded on. In their lust for power and war, they have forgotten that they are leaders on whose authority derives from the consent of the governed, not the other way around. They have introduced a rot into the Confederacy whose symptoms have been manifested clearly. For when terrorists descended on our worlds, drawing closer and closer to Geonosis, did the Vicelord see fit to defend the world that had supported them as the Confederacy's capital?

They did not, instead choosing to flee to Naboo and strip Geonosis of its titles and duties, leaving it to wherever the solar winds would take it. What assurance is there that Rishi, or Falleen, will not be next? If enemies arrive at the gates of Fondor, or Linuri, or Ra'Katha, how can we trust the Presidium to protect us, when Ryloth, Talay, and Rodia were overrun by only a small band of insurgents?

The answer to this question is a difficult one, and one I have no pleasure in stating, but it is nevertheless our harsh reality; we cannot. The defense and prosperity of our worlds cannot be left to a group of elites in a distant world; we, as Sovereigntists, must seize our own destiny. Past events have shown that our government in its current status is unequipped to adequately defend us, and while we combat the corruption that sits in its core, we must ensure that the people who have entrusted us to lead our not forgotten.

In short, I am asking that each of you do your part in ensuring that the freedom promised by the idea of the Confederacy is not squandered. We have been a small, ineffective voice in the past; but as the true effects of Confederacy First are felt, as fear grips the populace in not knowing if their homeworld will fall next to tyranny or terrorism, and as warmongers continue to send our sons and daughters to bleed on battlefields halfway across the galaxy, the need for change will become a sentiment echoed by many.

It is only a matter of time.

Sincerely,
Bastille Rommer
