Description

The 112th Company - better known as the Ashen Guard - is a stand-alone unit not attached to any greater regimental unit, that is comprised predominately of Echani with a handful of individuals that were hand-picked from a number of Confederate units - both standing and defunct - that serve in the role of a personal guard unit for the famed "Dread Queen" of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Troopers assigned to the 112th Company are distinguished by the purple coloration of their Project Omega armor - with additional markings denoting rank and specialization - while also bearing the stylized emblem of their unit which is often located on their left pauldron, or, in some other instances, on the right knee-plate. Comprised of smaller - more specialized units - such as the 9th Daoshim Platoon and the 119th Nightshrike Platoon - the 112th Company is often at times utilized as a Vanguard or Personal Guard unit, though their advanced training ensures that they can fill a number of roles as required by their mistress. Though the unit itself does not have access to ground vehicles or vehicles beyond their selected shuttle and starfighter compliment - troopers of the 112th Company are more than capable of operating a myriad of vehicles or vessels that they may come across. Each trooper is equipped with a Project Omega armor platform as well as a Project Theta Kinetic Rifle - while more specialized individuals or those with additional training may often be deployed with any number of melee-based weaponry. For instance, troopers of the 9th Daoshim Platoon have frequently deployed with an Echani Vibrosword and Vibro-voulge [or] any other polearm-based weaponry; whereas those troopers of the 119th Nightshrike Platoon are often deployed as pilots operating the attached vessels that the 112th Company utilizes. Being a stand-alone unit - the 112th Company frequently engages and operates alongside other Confederate Units when required or as directed by their mistress, the famed "Dread Queen". The 112th Company demands and is afforded great respect among other Confederate Space Marine units due to their more rigorous and brutal training regime that each trooper undergoes as well as the additional specialized training and Echani Martial Arts that they regularly practice. Individual members have different mindsets - with those not of an Echani background often looking down on the newly established SCAR Commandos while other troopers of the 112th Company are often warier and keep a close eye on the non-Echani among them and other Confederate units [with a special, and an arguably healthy mistrust of Mandalorians].

Combat Function

The Ashen Guard - more so than the other Confederate Space Marine units - is highly organized and specializes in small unit tactics, individual combat prowess, and a number of individual specializations that are only achievable due to the unique aspects of the Company. Trained in both combat and non-combat roles spanning the length and breadth of any number of situations or scenarios that they may come across - troopers of the Ashen Guard can capably act as Diplomas and Pilots, Combat Soldiers and Chauffeurs, or even Duelists and Sommeliers depending wholly on the exact need and specifications of a mission as deemed necessary by the Dread Queen of the Confederacy. Equipped with the standard-issued Project Omega armor platform, Troopers of the Ashen Guard frequently forego the use of Kinetic or Laser-based weaponry, often preferring to utilize melee weapons such as the Echani Vibrosword or Controller FP in singular combat or when acting in tandem with a dueling partner [with troopers often pairing off and forming close bonds and intimate relationships to strengthen their combat prowess]. However, in those instances in which utilizing a melee weapon is otherwise ill-advised - they will fall back upon their training and utilize ranged weaponry, often preferring the Project Theta Kinetic Rifle and the versatility that it offers due to its secondary weapon system. Their combination of Echani Martial Arts and Rudimentary Lightsaber Training also ensures that in melee, they are more than a match - often a fearsome sight - when it comes to the common rank and file soldiers with little to no experience with melee weaponry; while also being capable of holding the line - to some degree - when faced against more seasoned duelist or lightsaber combatants.

STRENGTHS

Elite Vanguard - The Ashen Guard is first and foremost an Elite Unit of combat-hardened troopers that have seen service from the Mandalorian Invasion of Eshan to the Terrorist attacks on Ryloth and beyond. Though few in number, their status, and training ensure that they are more than capable of handling larger formations that are not as well trained - while also being capable of holding the line against better trained and equipped troops than the standard rank and file.

Specialized Combat Training - On top of any number of basic training courses as well as the more advanced courses that they are expected of the members of the 112th Company, they receive specialized training in order to properly handle and operate their basic weapon and armor systems due to the difficulty that comes with those systems. This training also includes the utilization of additional weapon systems outside of their own kinetic-based weaponry.

Echani Martial Arts - With a fair few members of the Ashen Company drawn from the native Echani population - some of which served during the Mandalorian invasion of Eshan - each member undergoes the rigorous training regime that is involved in learning the Echani Martial Arts which is utilized both as a means of combat as well as a form of expression and communication. And every individual in the Company is expected to learn or be capable of teaching this ancient martial art form.

Not Just Marines - The 112th Company is expected to serve in a number of roles outside of just Bodyguard - with a myriad of expectations from simple diplomats and messengers, to trained fighters and combat pilots. To this end, they undergo a number of additional training courses to ensure that their education - as it were - is well rounded and they are capable of handling nearly any situation that may be thrown against them.

Mental Augmentation - Members of the Ashen Guard undergo a brutal and ruthless training regime [similar to that which Atton Rand underwent] to make them more mentally resilient towards Force-Based mental powers, such as Mind Trick and Mind Probe.

Rudimentary Lightsaber Training - Further augmenting their combat prowess, the members of the Ashen Guard are trained in rudimentary lightsaber forms - specifically Form I: Shii-Cho and Form II: Makashi - providing a basic understanding of lightsaber combat to prepare them and provide a somewhat even footing when dealing with those utilizing those combat forms.

WEAKNESSES

Specialized Training - Trained to handle any number of weapons that they may be exposed to as well as in a number of aspects outside of a standard combat unit - the members of the Ashen Company are more akin to Jacks-of-all-trades rather than mastering any singular aspect, weapon, or vehicle that they may come in contact with or be expected to operate. Though expected to be self-sufficient and otherwise not needing additional support - there are some cases in which the Ashen Company must utilize additional support to secure a mission-critical objective.

Rudimentary Lightsaber Training - Though having received rudimentary lightsaber training - and are potentially capable of standing toe-to-toe with those trained in lightsaber combat due in part to their additional combat training, they are otherwise incapable of besting or potentially defeating those individuals that have spent their lifetime [individuals akin to Knights or Masters] honing and perfecting lightsaber combat.

Troop Replenishment - The status of the troopers of the 112th Company as veterans of any number of conflicts makes replenishing their ranks all the more difficult. It can often take months, if not years, to fully and properly train replacements to fill the ranks of those that may have fallen in the continued conflicts across the Galaxy.

Mental Augmentation - Each individual of the Ashen Guard has undergone a brutal training regime to make them more resistant to mental based force powers; however, they are not entirely immune to these powers or otherwise capable of withstanding the effects of Force Probe indefinitely, and will - eventually - be worn down as their mental defenses are broken down over time.

Resupply - A great deal of the weapon systems utilize by the 112th Company are heavily reliant upon solid munitions or fuel - making it a priority to ensure that such a supply line remains established to ensure continued operational capacity. In the event that such a supply is lost or otherwise missing, the combat effectiveness of the 112th Company would suffer.

Lack of Lightsabers - Though trained in rudimentary lightsaber combat forms - the members of the Ashen Guard do not have access to individual Lightsabers or other similar lightsaber-based weapons, forcing them to rely on other more available weapons that at times are otherwise incapable of withstanding a blow from a lightsaber.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Since the decision to resign from her position as the Grand Marshal of the Confederate Naval Command - and ultimately her choice to seclude herself from the politics and events of the galaxy at large by withdrawing herself to the Agriworld of Ukio in the Outer Rim Territories, it was only a matter of time before the woman was once more pushed unto the galactic stage by those that for their own reasons had seen greatness lying dormant within. It was one such individual, the colloquially known 'Dread Queen of the Confederacy' - Srina Talon - among other individuals of note, that had sought Amelia out in her seclusion at the edges of the Confederacy [the unknowns of Wild Space just a step beyond]. During this time, this short-lived seclusion, there had already been plans, whispered secrets set in motion to ensure the continued survival of the Confederacy - even as such organizations as the Hellknights, and Dauntless Commandos saw their own ends as they quietly slipped into the darkness of the void to be all but forgotten. It was from these defunct organizations and groups that the core of the Ashen Guard was drawn from - a great many of them veterans of the war waged upon Eshan by the Mandalorians - while a few were from those above mentioned former formations. The true strength and the existence itself of the Ashen Guard were finally revealed when the Dread Queen had openly challenged Amelia and her decision to hide away in seclusion at the fringes of the Confederacy. With her own senses returning to herself and her purpose to serve the Confederacy once more galvanized, it was the announcement of the Ametrine Accords that saw the first units of the Confederate Space Marines deployed across the Confederacy - a gift formed in secret and given freely by the former Grand Marshal. Likewise, their most prized unit among them, the Ashen Guard, were bequeathed to Srina Talon by the architect of their creation, a personal bodyguard that would serve in protecting not only the famed Dread Queen; the Confederacy of Independent Systems as well.
