Security Experts: Elements of the Royal Grenadiers frequently serve as the honor guard for the royal family and act extra security for sensitive places on Ceraluen. To that end, the Royal Grenadiers are well-versed in security and crowd control tactics. Additionally, most Grenadier squads are equipped with LK Pred-X security droids and tactical tractor beam projectors to apprehend intruders.
Short Weapons Range: The Royal Grenadiers are solely equipped with relatively short range weapons. The Firebolt blaster rifle, while reasonably versatile, suffers from a significantly shorter range than most other blaster rifles. The grenades they carry are all hand thrown, which likewise tends to be shorter than most ranged weapons.
Honorbound: The Royal Grenadiers are largely drawn from those of Mandalorian descent due to the regiment's reputation as being the crèam of the crop of the Ceraluen military. This has lead to a strong current of Mandalorian warrior culture permeating throughout the Royal Grenadiers that often places personal honor above the mission. It's not unheard of to hear about individual Royal Grenadiers being goaded into fights by hecklers or not backing down from fights when it would be tactically/strategically wise to do so.
Description: The 1st Ceraluen Royal Grenadiers are Ceraluen's premier infantry fighting force. It is a fairly young force, originally formed several dozen years ago by Lord Protector Arbyr Vilas IV as a paramilitary rapid response police force before evolving into a gendarmerie force before being restylized into the Royal Grenadiers for tourist purposes. Today, the Royal Grenadiers still play a strong part in providing security for the world and the royal family, though a strong influx of recruits from the Mandalorian population of Ceraluen has striven to make the unit live up to its name. With the Netherworld crisis and the waves of conflict sweeping across the galaxy, there has been a real drive to turn the Royal Grenadiers into credible soldiers, culminating with a reorganization into a Line Regiment based on the old Imperial model. A combination of training from the Silver Jedi and Directorate, undercurrent of Mandalorian culture, and the latest equipment have turned the Royal Grenadiers into one of the best local defense forces in the Slice.
History
The group that originally became the 1st Royal Grenadiers was originally called the Cayman Prefecture Rapid Response Task Force. This police force found itself embroiled in one of the last attempts by a dominion to seize the crown from the Vilas family. Timely action by elements of the CPRRTF stopped the coup before it could gain momentum and truly threaten the Vilas family hold on the world. Valuing their loyalty and his hold on the Crown, Vilas ordered addition funding and training for the CPRRTF, which led to the start of them being considered the best fighters on Ceraluen. This in turn began to attract a steady influx of Ceraluens of Mandalorian extraction into the CPRRTF's ranks. Since then, members of the CPRRTF have frequently provided many of the security details for the royal family. Shortly before his death, Vilas IV renamed the CPRRTF into the 1st Royal Grenadiers and issued them elaborate parade uniforms to give their immediate presence around the palace a less threatening and more ceremonial role. All the while, in private the 1st Royal Grenadiers trained to become a more capable and efficient military force. When the planet fell under the influence of the Silver Jedi order, Antarian Rangers and Directorate advisors provided more training aid and the necessary connections to outfit them into one of the finest local defense forces in their area of the galaxy.Equipment
The strong internal mandalorian culture undercurrent within the 1st Ceraluen Royal Grenadiers has lead to the emphasis on strong, individual warriors fighting in heavy battle armor. Because of that background, the Royal Grenadiers adopted the Aegis Class armor, reasoning that it was probably among the best suits in its class for that purpose available to them. Individual armaments took a secondary priority in terms of budget, leading them to adopt one of the more pedestrian blaster rifles in ISAF forces and several older models of grenades. Because they continue to play a large part in day to day security operations on Ceraluen, individual squads are usually issued tactical tractor beam projectors and LK Pred-X Security Droids, which are used to chase down and capture intruders. Because of the (budgetary) focus on the individual warrior, the heavier elements of the 1st Ceraluen Royal Grenadiers continue to soldier on with ex-Imperial and Galactic Republic vehicles. Tactics
The 1st Ceraluen Royal Grenadiers' tactics are an unusual fusion of typical policing drills and Mandalorian warrior culture. This has largely led to a decentralized tactical doctrine based on individual platoons, still sometimes referred to as prefecture patrols, being coordinated by a central headquarters at Fort Armour. At this headquarters, battalion and company officers use the world's advanced infrastructure to rapidly identify trouble spots before routing troops to those areas to deal with the issue. While each situation is judged and acted upon a unique, individual basis, it's common for many of the units being routed to that area NOT to engage the threat, but to form a security cordon around the problem area while a much smaller element directly moves in to engage the target. This cordon can then contain the threat from escaping or provide immediate reinforcements to the Royal Grenadiers already engaging the target. At a lower platoon and squad level, the Royal Grenadiers have largely adopted a stereotypical Mandalorian warrior fighting style. It's not uncommon to see them wade into the thick of battle, relying on their armor's strength and their own individual prowess to survive encounters rather than on coordinated small unit tactics. Curiously, by merely designating them as “Grenadiers”, a dedicated curriculum and annual intra-regimental competition has sprung up around the use of grenades. Grenades consequently play a large in an individual's tactical repoitoire, and it's not uncommon to see Ceraluen Grenadiers employing far more grenades at far closer distances than most other troopers would be comfortable with. Part of this tendency is likely due to their focus on employing the weapon, and part of it is the ability to fall back on their armor and its built-in shield to survive any near detonations that many infantry simply can't withstand.Deployment
Ceraluen Grenadiers are almost always found within the Ceraluen System with the rare exception of escorting members of the royal family and other high-ranking officials offworld. While a number of Grenadiers provide security onboard spacebound facilities in the Ceraluen system, the vast majority are stationed at the regimental headquarters at Fort Armour. The 4th Repulsorlift Battalion of the 1st Royal Grenadiers is based in Port Lucia, from where they can rapidly deploy through their repulsorcraft or by the port's starships to other areas of the planet as needed.
