2 3D, or not 2 3D, that is my question

So Episode VII is coming out soon (whistles, and streamers, and confetti, wooooo...) but I have a slight problem...

I dislike 3D. Aside from one practical reason (I wear glasses, I can't wear contacts, makes 3D glasses notoriously difficult to reason with), it's mostly personal taste. I've watched 3D a few times and I just really prefer my interface to be stuck on a screen instead of all up in muh grill. I haven't seen many instances where the 3D feels really necessary to the movie experience. It's just a fancy gimmick that is trying to make the film feel "more immersive" but really just comes off as superfluous.

But, of course, as I sit here and browse my local listings for movie theaters for showings of Episode VII on opening day... nearly every bloody one seems to be in 3D................................................

So I'm curious what other folks think about this. Am I just a fossil and everybody else is down with the 3D thing? Are you like me and find it silly but are willing to suffer through that because ZOMGWTF EPISODE VII BROSKI!(?)

Corey's OOC

And where were the spiders
5D

I'm working on cross-dimension teleportation. We'll be good to go soon. Bring some power bars

I'm doing 2D, 3D makes me sad.

[member="Jorj Kell"] I'd see it first time without distracting glasses or gimmicks, and do it 2D the way it (realistically) was made to be watched.

THEN once you've taken it in and understood it, do 3D after so you don't risk missing anything due to the 3D or the glasses.

Tbh, my granddad's blu-ray has some really nice 3D settings on it, so I might end up watching like that after it comes out on disk.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one.

Luckily there is one theater about 20 minutes away that is showing it in 2D.

EDIT:

Apparently the movie premiering on the "18th" includes 7pm on the 17th... I don't know why that makes sense, you should just say that the movie is premiering on the 17th, but at least I have a few more options for 2D now.
