The 3t7 was designed according to rumors that enemies of light-sided factions that previously used 3t4 missiles began to field vehicles and starships outfitted with composite armor and ERA. As such, it meant redesigning the fuses of no less than four sizes of missiles: man-portable missiles, concussion missiles, proton rockets and assault concussion missiles, designated 3t7A, 3t7B, 3t7C and 3t7D respectively.
The redesigned tandem charge now has three stages: the first stage comprising a miniature EMP that would disrupt the shields locally around the projectile upon contact with the particle shields, a secondary charge that would cause the outer plate to detonate, causing the timing of the counter-explosion to fail. Finally, the tertiary charge is the one that would likely have the greatest penetrating power against the remaining armor plating. It goes without saying that 3t7s are best used against hardened targets and the range of such a missile is constrained by the speed of the target as well as the angle of attack.
Finally, the battle of Bimmisaari proved the usefulness of delayed homing, for example in exploiting an opening in enemy formations or a breach in the shields: the operator can set a certain amount of time during which the missile will fly as if unguided, and then home in on its intended target. However, it also carries the risk of backtracking the missile to a certain zone and an enemy can approximate the area from which the launch occurred based on how long it has been flying as unguided.
