- Tough: The 42nd are a bunch of tough veterans, they are grim, fierce and cold-blooded in their approach to war. It is their profession and many of them have seen more than they can talk about or want to remember. Their discipline and skill is only overshadowed by their unshattering loyalty to the Eternal Empire. If they order would come to march into machine gun fire, they would do it, knowing that they serve a higher purpose.

- Combat Function:
- Heavy Hitters: Usually the Ghost Troopers, the nickname of the Ultranaut Grenadiers, are making up one company per battalion. The 42nd features two per battalion.
- Is it Hot in Here?: Pyronauts are dreaded adversaries, their heavy weapon handling and specialisation of pyronautics are exceptionally useful in close quarters. The 42nd has dramatically increased the number of Pyronauts to half a squad serving in each company.
- Master of Arms: The 42nd has been trained, drilled and taught to use special and heavy weapons to perfection as well as utilize motorised and mechanised equipment to deploy swiftly and efficiently. They are the epitome of a panzergrenadier unit.
- Eternal Service, Eternal Duty: All members of the Regiment are citizens with voting rights already and they only accept those in their ranks as reinforcements which have gained their rights through service in the Ultranaut Corps. Their life is service and the 42nd is a Regiment which is replenished by seasoned soldiers rather than fresh recruits.

- Panzergrenadiers!: The 42nd Ultranaut is a mechanised infantry unit, they can deploy fast, have armored and have heavy weapons support.
- Heavy Infantry: The Black Legion is a pure heavy infantry unit with strong emphasize on close combat, urban operations and general open or pitched warfare.
- Specialists: To aid in their tasks, the 42nd has adopted many custom structures which were implemented over the years to become a well working, smooth engine of war powered by their veteran status and experience.
- Replenishment: The 42nd is prone to experience serious casualties in its head-on operations, yet reinforcements are not easily found or assigned.
- Stealth: No stealth here. Lights, tanks and rattling armor are definitely not making them scouts or light infantry.
- Mobility: Due to their heavy armor and equipment, the individual Ultranauts are not very agile.
The 42nd Ultranaut Regiment was founded several decades ago as part of the fledgling Shrouded Republic military, the fresh regiment was taken by the new assigned and promoted Colonel, Belisarius Vactovion. It was one of the initial founding regiments of the Ultranaut Corps.
Through extreme devotion to drill, training and exercising and finally through continuous service at the frontlines of the Republic, the 42nd became a famed spear of the nation. It was a veteran unit with awards, commendations and citations which would make any fellow soldier proud. Their dedication towards close quarters and head-on operations made them infamous even, their reckless bravery achieving victories where other units would retreat.
Seeing action on Nibelungen as part of the on-ship security still, they accompanied the rise of the Eternal Empire from its very beginning and would take part in fateful and famous action on Eshan which nearly wiped out the entire regiment.
Over the years their commander stayed despite gaining ranks and the 42nd would act as personal guard and regiment of Belisarius, fighting with and for him in multiple more campaigns. Both alongside the Confederacy and Darth Tacitus as well as later under
Ingrid L'lerim
. They were always loyal to the throne and the Empire itself, not its ruler.
