Founded as a successor unit to the famed Soontir Fel's 181st Imperial Fighter Wing, the 81st, known as Soontir Fel's Revenge or Fel's Revenge, is a famed New Imperial Fighter Group that has seen action during the New Imperial Consolidation Campaigns of Gradilis Sector and the NIO-TSE Sith-Imperial Wars, during the Braxant Campaign. They are known to be heavy hitters of the Starfighter Corps, deployed with missions that often sees them out-numbered by enemy fighters.​

They possess pilots that are highly skilled in dogfighting and tactical strikes. Indeed, during major military operations that are often deployed to be the first line of defense for fleets or are sequestered by the New Imperial Army for air-to-ground support.​

They are known within the NIO Military as "The Stripes" as their TIE craft are adorned with White, Blue, and Red Stripes depending on the Squadron. The most infamous of the 81st's Squadrons is the Darkstar Squadron - who are a heavy fighter squadron with special operations roles.​

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

The 81st began its military service as a simple Operations Group tied to the Reconstituted Seventh Fleet as OG-TH - Operations Group Thrawn's Hand. Within that OG was Darkstar Squadron which was set as the OG's primary combat missions squadron. During the fledgling empire's establishment on Nirauan in the Gradilis Sector, OG-TH was deployed to consolidation missions on Aeten II and Veroleem.​

As the NIO grew, the Operations Group was reformed and given the designation 81st New Imperial Fighter Group (81FG). Under this new formation the 81st was given a more flexible assignment, allowing it to be attached to any Naval Attachment that was appropriate for whatever mission they were assigned. The 81st would be involved in major military operations there after as a lead combat group - most notably the entire duration of the NIO-TSE Sith-Imperial War.​

This would begin with the Braxant Campaign. They saw action in the first battle of the campaign, the Battle of the Obtrexta Bulge. During the battle, Darkstar Squadron would participate in the Assault on Harnaidan in Muunilinst. After the first offensives through Sith-Imperial Space in Oversector I, 81st would be reassigned to a new second imperial armada battle group (IABG2) codenamed Scourge. The FG would be assigned to the IABG for the duration of the Braxant Campaign.​
