STRENGTHS
- Terror Fighter: With its loud maser cannons and aggressive design, the A-64 is designed to be intimidating. This is both to terrify native populations of planets meant for colonization and to inspire fear to prevent those populations from revolting.
- Chemically Treated Hull: To increase survivability in alien environments, A-64s are chemically treated to be resistant to many types of environmental damage.
- Durable: A-64s are more durable than similar starfighters, and can take a significant beating before going down.
- Weak Weapons: While they certainly sound intimidating, the A-64’s maser cannons are not very powerful, due to regulations on private military weapons.
- Lack Of Life Support: A-64s are not equipped with a built in life support system, so organic pilots must wear a clumsy flight suit when flying them, hampering their ability as rapid response craft.
The A-64 was designed to function as a space superiority starfighter for the Glolmark Corporation’s ruthless colonization of the Unknown Regions. On each planet colonized by the corporation, two squadrons of these craft would swoop in, seek out all of the unfortunate planet’s major cities, terrify the local population, and destroy any significant military and civilian targets with their maser cannons. This process was referred to as “Diplomatic Conditioning”.
Naturally, the A-64s were widely hated throughout the Unknown Regions. When the mass slave revolts against the Glolmark Corporation began, these fighters were used by the corporation to attack liberated cities, and harass spacecraft attempting to help the revolts. Many of these craft were captured by revolutionary forces, and others were stolen by space pirates taking advantage of the general chaos. In the end, these starfighters could not prevent the downfall of the corrupt corporation, as one by one, the colonized planets secured their freedom.
After the fall of the Glolmark Corporation, highly convincing knock-off versions of A-64s began being manufactured by several starfighter companies. Most of these have been bought by the Pyke Syndicate, Crimson Dawn, and other criminal factions. However, some of the original A-64s have been commandeered by Glolmark Security Droids, still flying the flag of the dead corporation and trying to colonize the Unknown Regions.
