A Business Proposition

Sitting in his office, Slate continuously bounced a rubber ball of the wall. It was a simple, and unexpected game for a soldier of 14 years and CEO of a Galatic-wide comapny to pay. But it kept him distracted. Slate had plans for a contract with a robotics company, which was a similar size to The Orion Corporation, SolaraTron Industries. The owner of the business, who was also the man Slate was trying to set up a communication link with was [member="Ice"]. A soldier. Ice and Slate had their similarities, political views was no one of these similarities.

"Sir, a link has been set up with the CEO of SolaraTron Industries." A feminine voice came through a receiver located at Slate's left arm. The voice belonged to his secretary, who was attempting to contact the client all day, without much success. "Perfect." Slate replied, "Transfer me over please."

A beep signalled the line had been switched, hopefully Slate was now connected directly to [member="Ice"]. In situations like this, first impressions mattered. So no matter how much the twos opinions differentiate, he couldn't start any arguments.
"Hello, is this the CEO of SolaraTron Industries?" "If so, this is Slate Estrada, CEO and founder of The Orion Corporation. And I have a proposition for you." He would speak directly into the transmitter, hoping Ice was on the other side.

[member="Ice"]

A holo image of Ice would soon appear, and he gave the man a small but respectful bow. "Greeting Mr. Estrada. Yes this is Ice, CEO of SolaraTron Industries. How may I be of service to you today?" While waiting for a response, his fingers began to dance along his datapad as he started searching for this Orion Corporation. As always, it would only be prudent to know everything he could about someone he might be doing business with.

[member="Slate Estrada"]

A small holo image popped up on Slate's desk, he guessed it was Ice. His suspcicions were quickly confirmed as the man announced his name and his postion in the SolaraTron Industries. "Ah, it's nice to finally put a face to the name." The soldier announced, placing the ball he had previously been throwing onto the desk.

Slate the. Looked back to the holo image and would continue speaking, "Well over here at The Orion Corporation, we are in dire need of security. And if I am informed correctly, SolaraTron Industries may be able provide us with combat capable battle droids." "If this is the case, I believe I have a proposition for you." After this, Lsate sat back into his cushioned chair and waited for a response.

A small smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth as he gave an affirmative nod. "You have heard correctly sir. We can make just about any level security droid you might need. From the basic check point guards all the way to heavy assault battle droids. Just let us know what exactly you are looking for and how many, and we'll get it done."

He hoped the man would be pleased with what he heard and Ice was eagerly waiting to hear what this proposition was. It wasn't even so much for the contract itself. Ice simply enjoyed designing new droids.

"All we are looking for is a simply combat droid that can be connected to a central terminals and will be able to hold enough weaponry to 'deal' with any intruders." Slate had an idea of what weapons he would be adding to the droids and also a brief idea of some of the systems that would be controlling the machines. This knowledge had come from a brief discussion with the Chief Scientist, Doctor Bal.

"We are looking to buy a batch of about 500 combat ready droids, and an extra 100 for spares." Slate hoped that the price wouldn't amount to too much, as the reason for buying these droids as secruity was to avoid labour costs. "Can I get an estimated amount on how much this will cost?" Slate finished, again waiting for Ice to respond.

He pulled up his datapad to take down more detailed notes. "Very good, 600 droids. As for cost, we'll need to work out the details of these droids much more thoroughly as there are a lot of factors that can raise or lower costs. For instance." Ice then sent over a list of things for him to answer:

What type of resistance would these droids be facing? (Special Ops, Standard Military, Civilian Paramilitary, or Simple Thieves)
What type of armor are your looking for? (Light, Medium, Heavy, Powered)
What materials for the armor would you like? (Durasteel - Standard, Cortosis, Phrik, Beskar, other)
What type of weaponry are you wanting them to have? (Lethal, Non-Lethal)
How much weaponry? (Simple security, Enough for a small skirmish, Enough for a small war)
What kind of intelligence programming are you looking for? (Drone - Relies on a control hub for all orders, Standard - Has basic programming and can carry out simple orders via transmission by a commander or a predetermined plan, or A.I. - Can carry out complex missions or subroutines all on its own. Can improvise well with situations)
How big of a droid are you looking for? (Astromech size, Protocal Droid size, or large heavy battle droid size - 2 meters +)
What type of movement would you like? (Wheeled, Bipedal, Quadripedal, Tracks, Repuslorlift)
Is there any other special equipment you might like to see on the droid?

"Once these questions are answered, I think we should be able to take it from there." He finished with a smile as he waited for the response.

The monitor Slate had been using recieved a list that was ready to be filled out. Pulling the monitor over, he began to reading through the list, selecting the options that would be necessary for his secruity droids.

What type of resistance would these droids be facing? Standard Military
What type of armor are your looking for? Medium
What materials for the armor would you like? Durasteel
What type of weaponry are you wanting them to have? Lethal
How much weaponry? Enough Weaponry for a small Skirmish
What kind of intelligence programming are you looking for? Drone - Connected to the Central hub of The Orion Corporation's HQ
How big of a droid are you looking for? Large Battledroid (No more than 2 metres)
What type of movement would you like? Bipedal
Is there any other special equipment you might like to see on the droid? The CCS-1 Scattergun to be used as a primary weapon.

After he had finished the sheet and signed the bottom, he sent it back to Ice. "While you crunch the numbers, would you mind us discussing the CCS-1's I will be providing?"

[member="Slate Estrada"]

Ice looked over the list and began to do calculations when he got to the last portion of the message. Quickly he responded. "Oh yes, please. Whatever you wish to share will be extremely helpful during this process. What is this CCS-1 you speak of?" With the message away he went back to calculating the project out.

((Sorry for the small post. I'm curious to see what you got there. :) ))

Slate begant o flick through various files on his monitor as he talked to Ice, "The CCS-1 is a multipurpose scattergun that is suited for all combat under the range of 40 meters. It is the newest weapon being produced by The Orion Corporation and had already been proven to be our most profitable." Shortly after his speech, Slate found the document he was searching for. "I wish to supply SolaraTron Industries with these weapons so you can attached them to the secruity droids, therefore cutting boths of our prices."

With a flick of his finger, the design sheet for the CCS-1 was sent to Ice. This file contained all the information the company would require without revealing any secrets. (http://starwarsrp.net/topic/43037-ccs-10-multi-purpose-weapon/) "But it is you're choice on whether or not you incorporate this into the final design." Slate finished, returning his hand to its resting position on the desk.

Ice took the file on the weapon and looked it over. Although he liked the weapon in of itself, the low magazine count didn't exactly lend itself to the longer drawn out fights a "small skirmish" might entail. However, the customer gets what a customer wants. He was already thinking of ways to make this work. In fact after a little bit more deliberation, he felt the CCS-1 might be a good way to round out the battle droids weaponry. "Ok Mr Slate. I have a rough working number for you on your droids. STI will be able to make you your security force for 20,000 credits per droid. So the total purchase order would be 12,000,000 credits." He paused for a moment to let the number sink in, but only for a moment.

"I know this may seem like a high number. But think of it this way. The cost of hiring a living security force this large would be roughly the same amount in a year, probably more in fact. Not only that, but you would still have to purchase their weaponry on top of that. So in a single years time, you will have recouped your investment and be saving that much every year for as long as they are in service. Oh, and we'll definitely be using the weapon you proposed in the design as well. If I could have one of them sent to my labs, I'd appreciate it. That way we can work the size of it into the design." Ice really hoped he would bit, as quite a few ideas were already floating through his head on how he could really cram in a lot of hardware for the price.

12,000,000 credits was a lot, and any hope of bargaining would probably be in vain. Luckily for Slate and The Orion Corporation they could afford it, and in the long run it would cost less than workers because there was no labour costs. However droids did need maintenance, and hopefully this could be included in the deal, but it was likely Slate may have to haggle for it. "12 million credits shouldn't be a problem, but will this include maintenance of the droids?" He asked before turning back to his monitor starting to out the order in for a batch of 10 CCS-1s to be sent to SolaraTron Industries HQ.

Before he allowed the man to answer, Slate quicky informed him of the news, "10 factory new CCS-1s have been sent to SolaraTron Industries, I trust this should be enough."

[member="Slate Estrada"]

Ice shook his a head to indicate no. "I'm afraid not. We don't offer maintenance services on account that our clients could be anywhere in the galaxy. It would simply not be cost effective, nor possible in some circumstances. As for the weapons. Yes, that is more than enough. And they will be returned to you in pristine condition." He added with a smile.

"So, with this in mind. What do you think? Shall we get to work?" With the ideas, fluttering through Ice's mind right now, he really hoped the man would agree. He supposed he could design the droid anyway. But it was always better to start a project with a buyer on the line already.

Slate let out a sigh as Ice dismissed the hope for included maintenance. "Well... That's a shame." Was all Slate could say, his company would suffer greatly from this.

"I guess the offer will stand however." He then replied to his later questions. "Have you got any design ideas already or shall we continue when you have?" Slate asked, hoping that some designs would've been created in the short time that Ice and him had been talking. He wanted to lockdown this deal as soon as possible and possibly still make a profit.

Ice simply nodded. He hated giving a customer bad news. But sadly, there was no way his company could offer such a thing. Maybe once he had more offices spread throughout the galaxy. But for now, it was impossible. "I am pleased to hear you still wish to move forward. I suspect you won't be disappointed with what we come up with." Ice said confidently.

Upon hearing the next question, he replied, "I do have some ideas. However, I would rather hold them back for now until the end. Make it a sort of surprise if you will. Ideas never come across nearly as well when they aren't more complete anyway. I'm also sending over the contract now. As soon as everything is all signed, we will begin work immediately. I will contact you again when we are ready for you to review." With that Ice gave the man another respectful bow. "It's been a pleasure doing business with you sir. And I look forward to our next meeting. I hope you have a pleasant day."

And so it was, that as soon as the completed contract paperwork was received, STI went straight to work.

Eventually Slate was contacted again. A holo image of Ice appeared before him. "Greetings my friend. I come to report that we have finished your droid unit. I am uploading specs for you now. I hope you are pleased with what we cam up with." A moment later, a encrypted data package came in for him to review.

Note: Ignore scale! The droid is 2 meters tall exactly. Also ignore the rifle in the picture and replace it with this.

Intent: To create a 600 droid security force for Slate Estrada's Orion Corporation.
Development Thread: A Business Proposition
Manufacturer: SolaraTron Industries
Model: Orion Security Droid
Affiliation: STI, Orion Corporation
Modularity: No
Production: Limited
Material: Durasteel, droid components, blaster components
Classification: Fourth Degree
Weight: 110 kg
Height: 2 m
Movement: Bipedal
Armaments: Retractable 12" blade (right forearm), flamethrower (left forearm), particle beam "cannon" (head)
Misc. Equipment: Basic scanners and vocabulator
Description: This is STI's solution to Orion Corporation security needs. This 4 armed giant of a humanoid droid sports medium armor giving it an armor rating of 7. It has a variety of weapons to be able to deal with many types of scenarios. It's primary weapon is it's heavy particle beam rifle that sits on top of its shoulders. With this weapon situated where it is, the droid is able to keep and incredibly small profile when peaking around corners or rising up from cover to return fire to an enemy.

A shotgun to be provided by Orion Corporation provides another means of attack if a defender is particular adept at defending against a traditional energy weapon. To increase the effectiveness of this weapon though, STI has developed a 20 round tommy gun style magazine to allow the weapon to last longer in a fight than its current 5 round, or even 10 round clips. This is being provided to Orion Corporation free of charge to the inability to offer maintenance for the droids, as well as they just wish to have a happy customer.

picture-8-19.jpg

But STI didn't stop there. To give it maximum flexibility in combat situations, a flamethrower is also included on the left forearm to discourage anyone from trying to overwhelm the droid up close. The only issue with this weapon is its limited amount of fire. It can only fire 5 burst before it's reserve of fuel is depleted. In the unlikely event that the droids shotgun and flamethrower run out of ammo, and the particle beam rifle is just not a good choice for a given situation. A retractable 12" blade is attached the the right forearm to handle more melee typ situations.

Per the customers specifications, the droid has not been fitted with it's own processing core. It is essentially a drone carrying out the commands of the main control center within Orion Corporation buildings. While this grants complete control from a central location. It runs the risk of the droids being completely useless if that control center were ever disabled or cut off.
Primary Source: N/A

Ice gave the man a bit to look it over before finally asking, "So. What do you think?"

"Good. Good." Slate said, reading through the sheet of information. It seemed Ice's creation managed to include everything he wanted. From the bipedal movement method to the CCS-1 as a primary weapon. However it also include some unique touched by the designers themselves and as long as it didn't increase the price, they were welcomed.

Now that both CEOs were satisfied, they could finally close the deal.

"Everything seems to be in order. The 12 million credits will be transferred into the SolaraTron Industries account as soon as possible." After saying this he began rapidly tapping on his holonet monitor. "I believe we are now done, correct? Or is there anything else you need or want to know?"
