A chat overdue

Masaru was a man that was always trying to stay busy. Taking out crime lords or bounty hunters who crossed some kind of line, escorting a caravan to a distance planet, and hunt some dangerous beast. On a larger scale, he'd participated in wars, and infiltrate enemy bases to obtain information to use against his contractors foe. These were just a few of the things he would do if the price was right and if the mercenary thought he was fighting for the right people. However, Masaru hasn't had much work to do for awhile now. Sure, there were some small contracts here and there, and a few missions he would join the Rangers in, but work wasn't coming in to his liking for awhile.

Making sure to keep up to form, Masaru made sure to train everyday. As he trained, he thought about how little he knew the people of kashyyyk. This wasn't surprising since the mercenary wasn't social, worked alone in most cases, and focused mainly on the Objective when working with others. Thinking about it now, he didn't really know much about his closest ally, [member="Asaraa Vaashe"], and the Jedi probably didn't know much about the mercenary either.

It was time to remedy this. It was good to know more about the people he worked with, especially those who were the closest thing to a friend to him. Though this would prove to be more difficult than the mercenary thought.

Masaru wasn't much for having tea parties and he was certain that the young Jedi wasn't either. Having a drink or two was another thought that crossed his mind, but considering the man didn't even know how old Asaara was or if she liked alcohol in the first place, he decided against the idea. Instead, he went to his room, opened a closet full of different weapons organized in an orderly way and out of all the blasters, swords, and knives, Masaru grabbed two recurve bows stored inside. The mercenary always liked to have a variety of weapons, armor, and gear just in case a job called for something specific and spent much of his credits on having different safe houses scattered across the galaxy. People stealing his ship was always a possibility and he didn't like giving the thief access to an armory of weapons, so he opted to have staches of weapons stored on planets he frequented.

Before setting off, Masaru pulled up his datapad and sent Asaara a message:

Morning army of one. Do you know how to shoot a bow? I was going to set some targets up in the woods and practice a bit. Care to join? - Masaru

With that, the mercenary searched for some targets. To his dismay, he only had one. It was a wooden archery target and a stand to go with it. Once upon a time he would have more but he hasn't practiced with a bow for so long that he didn't need more than one. Now Masaru took the two bows, two quivers that contained five arrows each, arm braces, and the archery target with him to the woods. When he found a place that wasn't too far within the woods and set the target and stand between two trees, slightly covered by a few bushes. Whether his commander came or not, he would see if his archery was still any good.

'Do you know how to shoot a bow?'

There were those words in the message that made her laugh, a playful smile teasing over her lips as the girl slipped her hands into her pockets, leather boots making a soft thump on the ground as she glanced up at the sun, eyes closed as she enjoyed the feeling of the sun against her skin. This was one of her favourite things about Kashyyyk, the warmth of the planet, the near constant sun that graced the planet. It was one of the things that made the planet feel like home.

The other thing was the people, the friends and family she'd developed amongst the Silver Jedi. The man she was on the way to meet was another one of those, an acquantaince she'd met on Nar Shadaa in the middle of an arena as it turned out. On the smallest things towers could be be built, or so she hoped. She hadn't really spent much time with Masaru, but that was going to change today. Maybe she could find out more about what made him tick, why he had followed her all the way to Kashyyk, to the Silver Jedi. A mercenary, it seemed unusual for him to have settled in with the rangers like he had, but she'd heard only good things from the Rangers who had worked with him.

The girl's thoughts had carried her into the forest, feet travelling without actually seeing, without watching the path as she trusted in the force to carry her to where she needed to go. Carry er right to Masaru, letting the smile stay pasted on her face the girl settled her shoulder against a tree, reaching out a hand as her bow floated up off the ground, slapping into her hand as she twirled it around her wrist as she grinned. "I heard something about a competition, the first annual forest showdown."

Masaru had picked up his bow and was about to draw an arrow, so seeing the other bow fly from its original position made him turn to face whatever threat there was behind him. However, there was no threat. Masaru's instincts made him forget that he didn't always have to be on guard while on Kashyyyk.

The mercenary relaxed and waved a hand in apology. Asaraa was there, standing against a tree with the bow in hand and a grin on her face. There weren't any signs of her approaching until she took the bow, which is suprising since there are very few people that can sneak up on Masaru.

"The first with more to come. Next time with more targets. Wpuld you like to do the honors?"

Masaru gestured towards the target. It was far enough and covered a bit to make things difficult for those just starting to use a bow, but he didn't think they would have much trouble to at least hit the target. For them, he was sure getting a bullseye was possible as well.

"Glad you came Asaraa. I usually keep to myself, so reaching out to chat and refine my archery may seem unusual I'm sure."

He was watching Asaraa closely, interested to see if she was any good with a bow. He was sure she was though. All the Jedi seemed to have a variety of skills and Asaraa was more gifted than most Jedi from what he could tell.

When it came down to it Asaraa had always been more comfortable at close range, fighting with a sword or a lightsaber, it was where she always tended to take a fight. Ranged weapons had always been the warm-up, the interlude that she could use to soften up a target as she moved closer to them. Yuroic however had always been a fan of ranged combat, carrying and using a bow was second nature to the man and ever since he'd been her master he'd taken it upon himself to drill her in the use of the weapon.

The pink-haired Jedi may not ever be his match when it came to the use of the weapon, might never be able to aspire to the heights he had achieved but a single target?

Slowly breathing in she drew back the arrow in her strong, feeling the fletching brush against her cheek as she sighted down the shaft, and then the exhalation as the arrow leapt away from the string. She could hear the whistle and then the thump as it slammed into it's target, not dead-centre, but touching the edge of the bulleye ring.

"How about we don't tell Yuroic I didn't make a perfect shot there huh?"

Masaru grunted when he saw how close the arrow landed to the bullseye on the first shot. While it wasn't a perfect shot, it was very close to being one. No warm-up needed and no excess time in shooting the arrow. He was sure that the next shot from the Jedi would surely hit the center of the target. "No worries, he won't hear a thing from me. Unless of course it slips while i'm having a few too many drinks" The warrior laughed a bit at that, letting his companion know that it was a joke.

Now it was his turn to take a shot at the target. Masaru drew an arrow from the quiver and knocked it to the bowstring. Taking a quick breath, he took aim, drew the string back, and let the arrow loose with quick succession like he was trained to do. The arrow hit the white of the target close to the center...so it wasn't in the red of the bullseye. While it wasn't a terrible shot, the mercenary knew he could do better. "Scratch what I said. I won't say anything about your shot if you won't tell anyone about mine." It had been a long time since he used a bow but he still had high standards for himself. Next shot would have to be in the center in order to prevent embarrassing himself in front of the young commander. He would also have to think of something more challenging here soon, else it won't take much for it to become too easy. Hopefully he'll have an idea by his next shot.
