Wild Thing
CORUSCANT:
"Waves crashed against her skin, the water running across the pale white surface. Tears were masked by the rain that pounded down around her. Illaria was alone, lost in the seas of eternity. A faint glow upon the horizon was her only ray of hope. Who knew what came after death could be so cold? It was as if her soul floated amongst memories, trapped in a web of nothingness. Oh how her heart longed for the one she once loved... But they were separated.
By more then just a world."
With a smirk Naomi set the book down. There was no need to mark the page. As always she had it memorized. 267 out of 498, chapter 24, second book in the Legacy series. It was a delightful read, even if it did get quite sad at points. The plot twists were good, often leaving one breathless. A Thousand Stars was the title. Inside the paper, written in bold ink was the story of twin Empires, a devastating war, and an individual who would leave her mark upon the galaxy forever.
One reason the novel was so fascinating was because it was so close to real life. Wars were raging across the universe, every planet feeling some sort of pressure. Factions were getting more and more aggravated with each other. Major conflicts were brewing, and would leave no person untouched. Including the Echani herself... Though a little conflict here and there was good for her. If she ever wanted her company to flourish... well, she'd need clients. Clients looking for weapons and armor, ships, speeders, and the like. War would give her that.
But the idea of longing for innocents to die and soldiers to fight to the death... that didn't appeal to her. Instead she treated it as a fact of life. People die everyday, with or without wars. And human nature, along with the nature of most other species, was very demanding. Without war one can't truly appreciate peace, and without it they have little other ways to show their so-called dominance or superiority. Even if it was troublesome, it was necessary. So Naomi let them fight. Let them kill each other and bloody their hands. Their use of her weapons would not hurt her conscious.
"The nature of the mind is so... troublesome. Now where is my tea?" The Echani muttered, taking a second look around the cafe she was in. It seemed like the place wasn't very busy, and yet her cup of iced sweet and spicy tea was nowhere to be found. How... tiresome. With a sigh the woman went back to reading her book, watching the entrance out of the corner of her eye. Many interesting people could be found on Coruscant, even in a simple cafe like the one she was in. It was always good to watch for them.
"The veil of death wrapped around Illaria, consuming her thoughts and dragging her down. What little of the distant light remained was fading... disappearing into the depths of the ocean. The former Princess couldn't help but let out a cry when she saw. Some part of her had believed that it was Resvaldin that shone so bright... Her lover, gone, never to hold her in her arms again..."
Finally the tea arrived, and all was made well.
