"You think Vera will go easy on him" Valery asked her husband with a chuckle. The two had been up in the Council Chambers for a little while now, just to get ready for their next mission. Valery had told Kahlil that she'd be inviting Shan along to help him gain experience too, but there was more to it. She knew enough about the Padawan to understand that Kahlil could be an excellent teacher for him, so why not bring them together a little more? This time, not in a training setting either, but an actual mission.

Shan's first objective, though, was to get through Vera.

The young Noble was at the base of the Council Chamber's tower, waiting in front of the lift that'd take him up. She knew her mom and dad were in a meeting, and that they'd be leaving for a mission soon. It made her curious, and if she couldn't get the answers she wanted out of her parents, maybe she could get them from Shan. So as soon as he appeared, she grinned and hopped over to him.

"Hello! We met at the race!" Vera hummed with a grin of mischief. "What are you doiiing? Why are mommy and daddy talking to you up there?"

Shan was rushing off towards the Council Chambers as soon as he was requested for a mission. He had made sure to have everything he'd need for the mission, patting his lightsaber next to him carefully. It was going to potentially be a vital tool for this mission and he wasn't going to try and leave it behind. The fact that the two Nobles were going to be on the mission made him think it wasn't going to just be something nice and simple. At the very least he had been practising now, and had actual experience in a fight...but he knew he shouldn't be getting too overconfident with all of this. So off he headed off, getting ready to go up the lift that would take him to the council!

Only to come face to face with Vera, and Shan blinked slightly. He wasn't sure how to trust the little grin on her face but he wasn't rude enough to just push her away as he crouched down to look at the young Noble.

"I dunno really. I'm meant to be goin' on some mission with your parents but they haven't told me too much about it. But what are you doing here little initiate? Hm? Shouldn't you be doing some training or reading? Remember what I said about being slow and taking things in can be helpful."

Sure, he was gonna sound like an old man by repeating stuff about being slow but he wanted to try and be a good influence on Vera. Though if the young Noble was aware enough, she might have noticed that Shan's smile didn't quite meet his eyes, and his eyes weren't as bright as they used to be when the pair had first met.

"I needa head up this lift to get your parents though. I shouldn't keep them waiting for too long. Whilst being slow can be pretty handy, it's better to be on time." The Mirialan broke out into a bigger smile at that, stretching his arms out a little bit. He never expected himself to have patience with kids, but it seemed like he was proving himself wrong.

"Guardian Initiate of the Council Chambers Vera will give as hard a time as she feels she must."

That was the official term of office that he certainly didn't just make up on the spot. He glanced briefly to Valery, then chuckled as he looked to the door as they waited for Shan to be allowed entry. Who knew what sort of trials he might be made to go through.

"So, what are you planning?"

Valery snickered a little bit, "Let's hope she goes easy on him. I don't think he's the type who likes to run late, even if he's stopled by Vera." She chuckled, glanced down at where the elevator would soon rise, and sighed a sigh of relief. It felt good to be able to joke around despite the darker mission they were about to embark on.

A mission that also couldn't hide that she was plotting something. "Me? Planning?" She grinned wide and bumped into him. "It's a surprise, but we first have to make this mission work out. It involves a Sithspawn... but an experiment where they were fused with sentient life.".

Meanwhile, Vera looked at Shan with a guilty smile when he mentioned training. So...she just ignores that ans honed in on the first part. "A mission! Can I come too?" She asked, already knowing the answer. It was worth a shot though, right?

Then she noticed something about his smile and hummed a little. Was he feeling sad?

Vera stepped closer and as Shan stretched his arms, the little Noble offered a quick hug. "Sorry for keeping you. I hope you feel better soon." She smiled genuinely and even stepped out of the way if he wanted to just move on and get up the elevator. Time was running short.

"Tell mommy and daddy I said hi." She giggled and just watched him like a hawk.

Shan sighed, ruffling Vera's hair carefully as she asked to come on the mission before tapping his chin in thought to try and stay something... "This mission might be a bit too big for you. But I'll see if I can't get you to help me on one of my super special missions, where I help give out food to people." It wasn't like an official mission or anything. He just liked to go out onto Courscant and give people supplies. Sure, with Vera he probably wouldn't be able to go down to the lower levels but that's fine...

He accepted the hug from Vera, but blinked at her comment about hoping he feels better and Shan shook his head quickly.
"You don't need to apologise Vera. I just...have a lot on my mind. Adult stuff. Things I've never had to think about before so I dunno how to feel." Though Shan kept a smile on his face, giving the young Noble a pair of fingerguns. "But I always know how to feel around you. Happy. You're good at making people smile so keep at it Vera, okay? That's a useful skill to have."

Part of Shan did want to stay a bit longer with Vera. She helped remind him of some of the good in the Galaxy. Reminded him of the innocence he had lost on Elom but that wasn't something he wanted to focus on right now. It was something he could process...later. It wasn't going to affect him for the mission as he just gave Vera another small hair ruffle. "I'll tell them you said hi! Just make sure to stay safe. And focus on your training, alright? Get yourself stronger so you can do more cool stuff when you grow up."

With that, he stepped onto the lift, brushing his hair slightly, wanting to look a bit more presentable. Patting his lightsaber down a few times to make sure it was ready for use. He had always made sure to polish it every day he had. Though he had to calm himself down. There was obviously a fair few nerves from the fact he was going on a mission with the nobles but he was slowly gaining confidence in himself he'd be able to do well. A positive mindset was what he needed.

Kahlil squinted suspiciously. A surprise, huh? He wasn't too sure what she had in mind, and she never gave him a bad surprise, but he was still plenty suspicious. He gave it a sigh of defeat, though. He'd find out eventually what her intentions were. Right now, his eyes narrowed. Sithspawn fused to living creatures? Parasites, perhaps? His experience trying to heal those alchemized against their will was.. Short, and few.

"You want to bring Shan along for this? It sounds certainly complicated, morals especially. Shan has already made it clear he doesn't want to take life, what exactly are you planning to show him?"

Valery looked at him with an innocent smile. He was very suspicious but she knew this was a surprise that he'd end up liking. So it was her time to tease him and not say a single word about what she had planned. Just a cute, innocent smile. At least, until the subject of their mission came up, which she knew was quite a dark one.

Sithspawn and experiments.

"He is realistic enough, so I don't think he'll struggle with Sithspawn if they end up being beyond healing. That said, we're dealing with one that was corrupted, not created, and if sentient life was involved....maybe there is rationality we can appeal to. Find a way to heal it." She let out a soft sigh and ran a hand up through her hair.

"I figured that after my conversation with him, it could be a meaningful learning experience for him to know how complex this stuff really is, and how we make our decisions. With both of us with him, he couldn't be more safe either." She paused and offered her husband a gentle smile. "That said, I obviously won't force him if this ends up being too much for him."

Meanwhile...

"Really?!" Vera asked with a bounce when he told her she could come on a mission with him. "I want to help!" She didn't care if it was a mission to give out food or fight the bad guys - she just wanted to help the people around her as much as she could. That was what being Jedi was all about, right?

Vera then hugged him and looked him in the eyes with her usual smile while she listened. The fingerguns got a giggle out of her, and the compliment even made her blush a little bit. "I will! I want people to be happy. So if you need help with the adult stuff, talk to mommy or daddy! They will help," she said with a big nod.

Shan then got up to leave, and left Vera with a bit more encouragement to keep at it with her training. She just grinned and waved, "I will! Bye!" She called out before hopping away.

"He's making his way up," Valery said as she glanced at Kahlil. "You still feeling good about it?" She asked before turning to the elevator, so they could greet him on arrival.

"Yes! Really! I do it all the time." Shan kept a smile on his face, waving away at her as the lift started to go up towards the council chamber. He still had no clue what the mission was going to be about. Does that mean he was scared about the mission? Of course it did. But fear seemed to be one of the main emotions he was starting to feel nowadays. It was good though! At least to him, it meant that he was alive. As long as he didn't let it distract him.

He picked and twisted at loose bits of his robes whilst waiting for the lift to rise. Dozens of different thoughts about what the mission could be were rushing through his head. He doubted it would be something healing based...Why would they need two masters and him for something like that? Could it be a rescue effort based mission? There had been a few of those...but at the same time he felt like more people would be needed for that kind of mission. So the exact details for the mission were evading him. It was a good thing Shan liked surprises at the end of the day.

Either way, the lift finally arrived, with Shan stepping out once the doors had opened. Glancing over towards Kahlil and Valery, giving the pair a quick bow of his head to try and be respectful. "Master Nobles. I am sorry to have kept you waiting. Erh...Initiate Noble wanted to have a chat, and I've always looked forward to the idea of being able to help the younger members of the order. But I am here now." He gave a sharp nod of his head before standing up straight and brushing his robes down. As much as he felt supported by the Nobles, that wasn't going to stop the Mirialan from being formal with the pair.

"If it can be healed, we certainly will try. But it's not an easy process. We'd need to capture it, bring it to New Cov to my lab so I can properly examine it. I haven't found a way to speed up the process yet." Kahlil frowned a little, rubbing at his chin. Maybe it was time to speed that process up. There was just so much to do, especially with the Sith being active again. Perhaps that would be why he should, actually.

He didn't continue on that line of thought once Shan stepped into the room though. Instead, he smiled, dipped his head in greeting.

"You're not late or anything, so don't worry much about it. It's good to see you though. How've you been?"

"Yet," Valery echoed while she offered him a most supportive smile. She was an expert at dealing with Sithspawn as well, but in the Jedi Shadow kind of way. He was the only true expert at handling them in what she believed to now be the true Jedi way. If anybody could heal one, it'd be him, and she trusted that he'd manage to refine that process to help even more different cases. It was only a matter of time.

Much like Kahlil, though, she changed her focus as soon as Shan entered the Chambers.

"It's quite alright," she agreed with Kahlil before she bowed her head in return and offered a smile. "Initiate Noble can be very demanding, but she means well. Thank you for taking some time to talk to her - it means a lot to Vera," Valery said with a very happy mother type of town.

"But I also hope you've been well. We have quite a mission to discuss with you."

"And Vera alongside the future of the Jedi mean a lot to me Master Noble." He broke out into a little cheesy grin at that, nodding to himself. Shan hadn't noticed...too much of Vera being demanding yet, but he knew that was probably just going to be a matter of time. Though he then turned his attention towards Kahlil, debating to himself if he should be fully honest with how he's feeling...though thanks to the lesson Cora had taught him, he decided honesty was the best policy. "I'm...doing well enough. I could be better. Plenty of recent events have made me have to reflect on myself but thank you for asking. I hope the both of you are well." The key point of that for Shan was him trying to decide his new views on combat and his pacifism, since that belief had been shaken...quite a bit.

It was harder than he expected to be honest about his feelings...but keeping them coped up wasn't going to help him in the long run. Plus he felt comfortable around the Nobles. They supported some of his ideals but also pointed out when he was being a bit naĂŻve which is what he needed.

"I'm eager to hear of the mission. I was trying to think of what it could be in the lift. I presume it's something more...serious than I'm used to, as there's two Masters for it. But I am willing to do my best, even if it means having to be combative." Almost like a habit, Shan lowered his head once he finished speaking. Manners had always cost nothing to him so there was no reason why he wasn't going to be polite. "I am also eager to learn more from the pair of you, since both of the lessons you've taught came to be lifesavers for me." Which was also true. Shan doubted he'd be here, if he hadn't learned how to protect his mind with the Force, and his body with Soresu.

"Well, it seams we're going to be dealing with Sithspawn, so there will be some lessons to learn." And hopefully nothing too dark. He glanced to Valery for a moment, then smiled towards Shan again. Whatever they'd end up facing, they'd do it together at least.

"Asides from that, Master Noble hasn't decided to fill me in completely. So.. What exactly is our mission, Master?"

He glanced to Valery with a bemused grin and a faint chuckle. Yes, he was absolutely teasing her.

Valery couldn't be happier that Shan was so willing to spend time with her little girl. It also meant he was likely going to get poked a lot more by her, but if her plan of pairing him up with her husband worked out, he'd be getting quite close to the family as well. Now it just felt more natural - a good sign for her plans.

She then listened to Shan with a soft smile, and only briefly looked at Kahlil when he glanced her way at the mention of Sithspawn. "That's right and it's a very special case, so I think all three of us will be able to learn something new today." She seemed a bit excited about that, but she also knew it was going to be a darker mission. They had to be focused when it mattered.

Valery blinked then, as she caught her husband's grin and teasing tone when he called her Master. It earned him a look, before she began to explain, "On Bordal, a planet in the outer rim, a Sithspawn was reported to have killed some locals. An investigation followed and what they learned is that this Sithspawn seemed to be fully sentient - it could even speak to them." She frowned and put on the projector to show the planet on the map.

"I want to go there with you both to confront it. Preferably to capture it and find a way to undo what was done to it, or if necessary to take it down."

Sithspawn. Shan had heard about them in the past...The idea of facing one was obviously quite intimidating but the fact that it was meant to be fully sentient? That made it even more terrifying in his eyes. It could think clearly and it could speak...but to Shan, that also meant it could be distracted and potentially captured as well. It made some more sense to him now why he was getting brought along, both as a lesson but also because of him being more defensive meant he wouldn't try to rush straight into killing the creature...

It would probably be best for him to try and get information from Valery before they were out of the field, so Shan just cleared his throat before speaking. "Is there any reports about what the Sithspawn has said to the locals? Does it seem to have some kind of goal or plan in mind? Or is it just "Raaagh, I'm big scary Sithspawn here to kill you?" Shan made little hand movements as he imitated what he thought a Sithspawn would probably sound like if it spoke, waving his hands around like a rancor for dramatic effect. The amusing thing he was actually being serious about it, instead of adding the hand movements for comedic effect.

He rubbed his chin in thought afterwards, trying to figure out how the mission was going to go before shaking his head. There was no point in him making a plan for it. A plan was likely to go out of the window as soon as they confronted the Sithspawn. The best thing for him to do was follow the pair of Masters and learn from them. This wasn't a type of mission he was used to it, so it was going to require some extra patience and awareness from him.

Kahlil raised a brow, glancing first towards Shan, then back to Valery. The question he asked was a good one. The less sentience the Sithspawn had, the easier it'd actually end up being to help. It was those with more mental facility that would be incredibly dangerous.

"Lets walk and talk. We can take a shuttle there immediately."

Valery nodded in agreement with Kahlil, and began walking towards the elevator, so they could all take it down together and head for the hangar. A simple shuttle was possible, but she was leaning more towards taking the Bastion. Just in case they ran into other trouble out there, and considering the kind of Sithspawn they were up against, the wasn't even a strange thought.

"A warning," Valery then answered after Shan asked his question. "He warned those who got too close, and killed all but one, so he could leave to be the only living witness." She frowned a little and glanced at her husband for a moment. "We don't know what its true motives are, but I fear that this Sithspawn is capable of plotting something more elaborate. It's not just about living, protecting territory and eating and drinking."

"This one might actually have a goal."

Valery then looked at Kahlil as they reached the Hangar and offered a soft smile. "Can you fly us there with the Bastion? You're the better pilot," she said before she grinned. "...with the Bastion," she quickly added to tease him.

"Any other questions from either of you?"

Leaving a witness? Now that's what was peculiar to Shan as he followed the pair towards the Bastion. "Leaving a warning alongside witnesses seems...strange in my opinion. Unless it's part of its plan. Trying to spread fear whilst also getting the Jedi involved to try and stop it from reigning havoc on the people..." Like Valery was saying, it had some form of goal but what could it be? "There is also its location...Are there any other Jedi or Alliance forces in the area?"

The cogs in Shan's head were turning. There were so many potential reasons that the Sithspawn could be doing this for. It made it even more important that they brought it back alive at least. The information it could potentially give them would be valuable. But at the same time, the fact it was intelligent made Shan even more worried about this mission. Was he potentially just going to get in the way? No. No. He wouldn't have been invited if that was the case. He couldn't let his self doubt get the better of him.

His eyes travelled across the hanger once they arrived. He had seen other Padawans who seemed excited at idea of ship travel but...Shan never really saw the appeal in it. He had made that pretty clear to Vera when the race was happening a while back. He had decided though it would probably be important for him to learn how to fly eventually. Today was not going to be that day however.

"Most of my questions would just relate to the Sithspawn. I haven't fought one myself, so I'm not entirely sure what I should be keeping an eye out on." Getting information pre-event was important in his eyes. There'd be no point him rushing in with a Force Barrier for example, if the Sithspawn could just remove it. Or fighting it with a lightsaber if it was able to disable it. The more info he could get, the better he'd be to help.

Kahlil_Div2.png

"A warning, huh?" After killing a group of people? There was either more to this than it seemed, or the creature wasn't something that could be saved. He frowned. This was already getting complicated, and they hadn't even arrived to the planet. He nodded once to Valery, though with a brow raised. Ah, right. The race. He chuckled before shaking his head. He'd pay her back for that, eventually.

"I can fly, yes. And.. You're in the dark as much as we are. Sithspawn can be so drastically different that there's little ways to prepare without seeing what it could be. If it's one I know, I can better answer your questions on it. But if it's not, we're just going to have to be extra cautious. The only real advantage we have is all Sithspawn are weak to the Light."

"It might also not know what a Jedi is, and its warning was to targeting people on the planet." There were honestly a lot of different factors - too many to all take into account. Just like Kahlil said, they'd have to go there and figure it out by studying the Sithspawn up-close. This is what made it difficult and dangerous, because there was no way of telling if it'd be a familiar beast or something new entirely.

Being surprised out in the field was the quickest path to being harmed.

Valery then glanced at Kahlil when she poked him about flying and blinked. Her comment hadn't referred to the race specifically, but just the fact that she was a fighter pilot, and the Bastion had always been his home. Welp, she was probably going to get it anyway for all the teasing during the little race.

"Alright, before we head into danger..." Valery began as they all sat down inside the Bastion. "I did bring us three together for a reason. I heard that Padawan Pavond here is in need of a Master," Valery said with a grin, while she looked between the two of them for a moment. "I was hoping that this mission could be a little test."

"I am not...aware of any Light-aligned powers that I can use against the Sithspawn." Shan wouldn't be unable to play on the weakness to Sithspawn it seemed...A small frown growing on his face as he was trying to wrap his head around the best way of dealing with this. Though he shook his head afterwards. It was better to let Valery or Kahlil come up with the plan whilst he followed it. He was no expert in Sithspawn, and those two had a lot more experience than him. He had to see this more as a...learning experience, than an experience to try and impress them with.

For now however, Shan got ready to watch Kahlil fly the Bastion. If he wanted to end up learning how to fly eventually, it would come in handy if he actually watched what they were doing. Learning visually and whatnot but as Shan got comfortable on the ship, Valery brought up the mentioning of how he was looking for a master...and then said the mission could be a test.

Well then. Now this has went straight from being a learning experience, straight back to being an experience to try and impress the pair if this was going to be a test. He had this under control though, just follow their lead and don't be too foolish.
"I will do my very best then. I mean...I already was going to do my very best but now I feel like I have to tell you two and...well...yeah." The padawan let out an awkward chuckle at that, rubbing the back of his neck. Was he already digging himself a hole? No. No. He was alright.
