A Day in the Forest

- A Few Miles out from Eshan's Capital -

Alexander sighed as he leaned against the tree at his back, the cool air coming off the water that he looked out over. It was mid day, a warm day but one with a nice soft breeze to accompany it as it played its tune through the leaves of the trees. IT was a beautiful sound that Alexander came to love, he had loved music in general, only knowing how to play the more traditional of instruments, but it was a thing he loved none the less.

His reasoning though to be out here was in part due to that and in part due to simply finding a place where he could be alone to watch and appreciate nature, his eyes closed as he didn't really expect anyone to be this far out in the middle of no where like this, so really his mind was at ease and his body perfect to scare out of its skin.

At that exact moment, Katar fell out of the tree she had been perched in. Ugh! How could she lose her grip so easily?? Dang! And she'd really wanted to get a better view of the forest! What should've been a soft landing WAS NOT. Her body collided with something very hard before making contact with the ground, bringing down whatever the hard thing was with her. She grunted slightly as she landed on her back. She was a quick healer, however, and managed to get back on her feet and move backward a bit. That hard thing... That was a person?? Oh no! Did she just kill someone?? FROM FALLING OUT OF A TREE?? Katar stared down at the figure, her large green cat eyes filled with surprise and worry.

If the falling person wasn't enough to give him a heart attack, the landing on him part shot that chance into the air as he groaned from where he now lay instead of sat. "Mind getting off me..." He groaned as his face was now burried into the ground and he couldn't really pay attention to much past the pain of someone falling on you from a tree. He didn't even know who this girl was but he could tell that much by her size. Turning over once she was off him he looked up at the cat eyes and waved a two fingered salute at her from where he lay on his back now. "Thanks."

A small sigh of relief escaped Katar's lips. He was alive. But not exactly unharmed. She sat down on her knees next to him. Cautiously, she leaned over him and began sniffing him and looking for anywhere that might be broken or badly damaged.

He blinked at her, other than bruises nothing was broken but why the hell was she sniffing at him. "Uh miss... what in the world are you doing." He wasn't quite sure how to take what in the world was happening but he really hoped she would explain herself because from what he was looking at this was a very odd sight.

Katar stopped directly above his face, locking eyes with him. She blinked twice before pulling backward to continue staring at him. No one really understood why she sniffed things. It was her way of better understanding the world around her. That, and her instincts could pick up things normal people couldn't. She was nervous about saying things to strangers other than her name. But she felt it was necessary in this situation. "S-sorry..." Katar looked down at her lap, her voice tiny and quiet.

"You know, you don't have to act so cute when you say sorry, kinda makes me feel like the bad guy..." He laughed a bit but didn't move as he leaned his head back and looked up at the sky and the tree. "So, why were you in the tree anyways if i might ask?" His eyes remained focused there but he really had nothing all too encompassing to say past why she was up there, he was still curious about the sniffing thing, but that could wait.

She tilted her head a bit. "Acting cute"? What did that mean? She looked up at the tree as well. She just shrugged. "To see." It was a vague answer. Still true, though.

"Nevermind there." His eyes turned back on her for the moment before speaking again. "Question, you aren't Echani quite obviously so what are you doing on Eshan?" His eyes focused in on the cat like girl.

(I cant think of what else to put

Katar thought for a moment. What was she doing here? Well, she'd never been here beforehand. Her curiosity usually got the better of her when it came to new things. That, and she'd seen all the green on the planet's surface when she looked out her ship window in orbit. She LOVED wilderness. It was really a no-brainer. "I like the green," She replied, gesturing to the forest around them. "You're ee...ee.......ee-chon-ee......?" Katar struggled a bit with that last word.

He smiled and slowly sat up before patting the ground infront of him. "Im going to guess basic isn't your strong suit, let me help. First, we will start with my race." He cleared his throat and thought about how best to sound out the name of his species. "Yes, but it sounds like E-Chan-ee."

Katar scooted a bit closer and tried again. "Ee.... ee-chan-ee...." She said again. Why were words so difficult? Why couldn't it be like running, you know? Just put one foot in front of the other foot and start doing that faster and faster. Simple.

He smiled and gave her a thumbs up. "Good job, whats your name by the way, sorry if you said it but my memory is a bit spotty." She seemed to atleast understand Basic, it was just speaking it she seemed to have the trouble with. Or perhaps he was just not realizing how well things were going. He wondered who this woman was past her name but he figured give her a slow time considering the language gap.

Katar brought a claw fingernail to her chest. "Katar." A clear, perfectly pronounced word. The one she'd been saying for years. She then pointed to the man and gave him a questioning look. Her way of asking the same question.

He smiled and placed a hand over his chest, speaking now to her. "My name is Alexander." He wasn't really sure what to say now, social situations were bad enough for Alexander and this just made things worse when she wasn't all too great at basic.

"Al-eck-zan-der." She repeated. Katar then gave him a small grin. "You're ee... Echani?" She said. It was more of a question than an actual statement. She'd never actually met an Echani before. She'd heard a bit about them being combat-centered people, but that was it.

He nodded quickly and then thought about it before looking at her now. "Yes, im Echani, what are you?" It was simple conversation, something he could do and not feel overly complicated at doing, perhaps she even knew a bit more basic than he was allowed to hear, but probably not. Who knew.

Katar thought for a moment. "I was Iridonian before..." Her voice trailed off a little. Before she'd been abandoned and turned into a slave/experiment/gladiator. How are you supposed to tell a stranger something like that?

"I must say, you do not have to explain what it is that you became after." He felt the... pangs associated with what would have been said next. That was the benefit of his empathy in that he knew when he was pushing too much and he was just trying to figure out how to converse with her. He wasn't quite sure though. "You said you wanted to see? What about it did you want to see?" He looked out over the water nearby and smiled to himself as he waited for her answer.

"The woods," Katar said simply. If she could, she'd just fly up high enough to look over the expanse of trees to see how far they went. But she wasn't born with wings. She looked over at Alexander. "Why were you under the tree?" She asked slowly.
