It's been a little while now since I joined the Korriban Academy. Between the Star Racer competition and various other events I've participated in, I can say I'm starting to get used to my new Sith routine. Still, something crucial is missing: training, knowledge. What I have right now clearly isn't enough.

That's exactly why I'm at the academy today. My goal is to approach the instructors, as I've done before. Holding a thermos of hot coffee in my hand, I take a sip while walking down the hallway. I have the weapons lent to me by the academy—well, mostly. My blaster is my own, but the phrik knife is on loan. I don't have a lightsaber yet, but that will come. It's actually one of the things I need to discuss with the instructors: how to get my own lightsaber.

I walk slowly, savoring my coffee while staying alert. After all, on Korriban, another Sith could show up at any moment, and the last thing I want is to get into a scuffle or unnecessary trouble. To avoid that, I stick close to the wall, making sure to remain as inconspicuous as possible. For now, I'd rather not draw any attention to myself. A routine just waiting to be broken.

Tamsin's dark eyes scanned the common area of the academy. She wasn't looking for anything in particular just observing how the students went about their day-to-day work. It was quite a different style of learning than she was used to, her master gave her a lot more hands on training and on the job work to do. Here people were given homework and studies to do with time constraints. It seemed so odd to her and even her passenger thought it was strange she could feel it's discomfort.

She continued to watch the students she had been to a few classes and saw how they operated. Lectures that seemed distilled for the masses leaving gaps, where with Kaila Irons Kaila Irons if she had a question on anything she could just easily ask and get an answer or told where she might possibly look for an answer if her master didn't know. Also having to refer to Kaila as her master in front of all these sith was uncomfortable. Kaila was like family to her, an older sister having to refer to her as master felt like she was a slave again.

Yet she did so because she had been told sith would use such things against you. It was a dark path she was navigating and at times it felt lonely not being able to share the things she really cared about. Though these were all things her master told her were to be. She continued to look around the commons, she noticed students gathering and communing among each other.

Yet those weren't the ones she was looking for, it was the ones that hung on the fringes. The ones who tried to hide themselves in the crowds of students. Those students were the outcasts the ones with things to hide trying to look like they were apart of the crowd but actually weren't. That's when she noticed a young woman about the same age as her skirting the walls holding a thermos. She was trying to just blend in and not get noticed, Tamsin noted to herself as she just watched the girl for a bit.

Finally, she moved across the commons grounds towards the woman coming up to from the front. A smile crossed her face as she approached the woman, the only noticeable thing about Tamsin was she had a saber hanging off the belt of her dark robes she was wearing. "Good day, I don't know anyone around here and I was wondering if maybe you can help me? Oh…sorry the name is Tamsin." She extended a hand towards the woman.

Something unusual is disturbing my peace and quiet. I'm walking along the walls hoping to be discreet, but it's not to be. I wonder what it could be, as I still have my thermos of coffee in my right hand.

A strange woman comes towards me, with black hair and black eyes too, looking a little lost? I frown, as she introduces herself, she says her name is Tamsin, I don't know her personally from the academy. After all, the Academy is big and vast and I don't know many people either, so if she was hoping I could give her some information on that subject too, she's missed out.

I'm also thinking of giving her my first name, which is the least I can do. She doesn't seem any more hostile than that, even extending her hand...

"Lyssara Thrynn".

My thermos is in my right hand, so I switch hands to shake hers properly. I'm being courteous with her, maybe it's good for business afterwards.

"It depends what kind of information you're looking for? You know, I'm relatively new to the academy too..."

I sketch a small smile on my face, then resume a neutral, aloof attitude. I've told her I've heard from you, so she won't be disappointed. I don't want to give her false hope. Maybe we'll be able to train together, who knows?

"Oh? What brought you to the academy? My master wanted me to see how other's in the order studied and learned that is why I am here." Tamsin reached into her robes and pulled out datapad and scrolled through it real quick. She was scrolling through her schedule and stopped on the class she was supposed to attend next in about half an hour.

"What want to ask is kind of embarrassing." She said making herself look uncomfortable about even asking it. "I have a class I am supposed to attend in about half an hour from now." Her nervous ticks showed threw as she spoke trying to avoid what she wanted to ask as long as she could without making it too awkward.

"I can't read very well…." She admitted which was true though she was learning to read through her masters teaching her. She turned to the datapad towards the Lyssara and pointed to the class's name on her itinerary. "I don't know what that word is." It was a beginner alchemy class she was pointing too. "I would be grateful if you can tell me what it says?"

I've got a class soon too, so we've both got our schedules to worry about, but she's asking me to help in a way I wasn't expecting, and she says it's quite embarrassing.

What's it about? A compromising secret? A little personal information about my superiors...? In just one sentence, she's got my full attention, admitting she has difficulty with reading, wait what? Reading? But how is that possible? I blink softly at her, expecting something a little crunchier.

I put a hand gently to my face, then put my hand back in my pocket as if nothing had happened.

"Yeah, I've got class in a little while too, you know what it's like with instructors don't you?"

I look at her, as she asks me for help with a parchment. the document in question, she can't quite decipher it when I can finish off a hand it doesn't cost me anything.

I hold out my hand to her as if waiting for her to give me the document to analyze, I give her a friendly little smile and I have another idea in the back of my mind, if she's having trouble saying it I'm not going to make her do her homework every time, so we'll have to remedy this problem once and for all.

"Let me see that document, I'll read you what's in it and then I've got a little proposition to make".

Tamsin wasn't exactly sure how to answer the question or even if it was a real question about the instructors. She had learned from her master ever question asked could have the potential to be used against you. One had to be careful about what they said, how they said it, and whom they said it too. It was a little weird to her, the sith were about breaking free from the chains of fate but you weren't truly free in thought or word you had to live in a bit of paranoia.

"Yeah." She said leaving a little laugh after her non answer.

Then as Lyssara put out her hand for the document, Tamsin handed the datapad to her with the itinerary on it. Then in true fashion Tamsin had learned long ago a quid pro quo was offered for help. Nothing was given for free or out of kindness, she had learned this well when she was a slave. It was what kept most people in chains, don't help the slave next to you unless they have something to offer you.

It was remarkable to her that so many didn't see the chains they had bound themselves too so willingly. Tamsin didn't answer immediately though as she thought the proposition over, she didn't know what the student would want from her. She also doubts she wouldn't be told what it was unless she agreed to it first. Then there was her master who held oaths and promises made as sacred, so if she gave it she knew she would have to keep it.

"As long as I don't have to kill anyone just to get you to tell me what a word is, I will listen to your proposition."

The word on the page for the class she was to attend was Pyrotechny a type of chemistry class dealing with elements of fire.

As I suspected, distrust is the order of the day in the academy. We're both judging each other, and rightly so, watching for an opening in the opponent's guard to find a loophole to exploit. That's what our teaching tells us to do, so our relationship is based on mistrust.

She hands me her datapad and points to the word she's struggling to read with her finger. I lean in a little to read her screen.

"oh."

After reading her text, I give her back her datapad without trying to make waves, anyway I don't have time for that and neither does she. It won't be long before we're off to our respective classes, so I'll try to keep this brief and to the point.

"The word you're having trouble reading, it's py-ro-tech-ny"!

"You have a course on pyrotechnics at the alchemy of the element of fire."

As I pronounce the word, my finger shows her the characters so she can identify them correctly. She then tells me the favor she has to do me, she's not ready to kill someone for a simple word.

"You don't have to go that far, in fact I just thought I'd ask you to meet me at the library after our lessons, because if you have trouble reading, I can teach you how to do it properly and save you any problems in the future. It's up to you of decide what you want for you".

An offer is being made here, there's no questionable trap, I just want to help her a little. I think she'd do the same in return if I asked for a hand. I wonder if she'll accept the offer or simply refuse it, either way it's take it or leave it.

She watched as Lyssara moved her finger across the word and spoke it. "Py-ro-tech-ny" She spoke out loud to herself rather than to Lyssara to try to commit the word to memory. Tamsin then listened as Lyssara made her offer, to be honest it surprised Tamsin a bit. Rarely did she hear of sith offering a beneficial proposal to the party asking for help. Then again, she only had her master's word to go on, not that Kaila would lie to her just that Kaila had seen some of the truly dark stuff sith were capable of.

"I will be there." She said feeling the proposition was acceptable to her. It would also allow her to learn more about this intriguing person before her. Also learning to read better was a skill she was working on so any help she could get was worth it. "Thank you, Lyssara." She gave Lyssara a polite smile.

"Also, I'm sorry I Insinuated you would want me to kill someone. I was just told be cautious by my master when she allowed me to come here." Tamsin cautiously chose not to delve deeper than that into what her master had warned her about. "So, you mind me asking what class you have next?" They both had a few minutes before class might as well shoot the shit as they say. That and just walking away would just be awkward. Tamsin was realizing she needed to probably work on her small talk game as well.

Honestly, my master's distrust is more than justified here, it's practically the norm. Betrayal runs rampant in our faction, and forming solid alliances has become nearly impossible these days. She tells me she'll meet me at the library and apologizes for assuming I'd ask her to kill someone.

I give a polite shake of my head, a distinct no, accompanied by a small smile to show her it's not a big deal.

"Whoever your master is, listen to them they're right. Don't trust anyone here, not even me. Never let your guard down."

After all, there's nothing stopping me from stabbing her in the back when she's not looking or pulling some underhanded trick, as is our custom. But lucky for her, that's not why I'm here. I'm also trying to make friends in this place. You don't stab your allies in the back when you genuinely want to build camaraderie.

This loneliness is a heavy burden I carry on my shoulders, but I know I must choose my companions wisely. One wrong move could prove fatal.

"Oh, I've got lightsaber training. I'm part of House Ghoule. Guess I must be a bit of a masochist. What about you? What is your plan for the next month in the academie ?"

At the library, I really do plan to teach her how to read so she can find peace of mind later. I have no ill intentions towards her.

Not all Sith are evil. I'm one of those who genuinely wants to help others when the opportunity arises. Maybe I'm a bit too kind, but that's just who I am it's in my nature.

"High Inquisitor Darth Anathemous is my master." Tamsin quickly replied when Lyssara mentioned whomever her master was. There was a sense of pride in her voice when she spoke her master titles. Though in most cases Tamsin would just refer to her as Kaila, she was warned against doing so in more formal sith settings.

"Lightsaber training that is great, my master is personally training me in that. I even got one designed by my master." She pointed down to her side on her belt where her inquisitor saber hung. "Though one day soon I will make my own, this one is one is for training with for the time being." Her master had been planning a lot of things out for when they went to get her a crystal of her own, but her master was a very busy person so it might be sometime before they got a chance to do that.

"House Ghoul? I have heard about the houses within the school, but I don't know much about them yet." The energy in Tamsin picked up she had a bit of excitement to her talking about both her master and lightsabers. She particularly had a love of technology, and the lightsaber had peeked her interest the moment she had first seen Kaila use hers. As for the houses, it wasn't something she was well versed on she was here to learn while her master was busy and further her education to help her move forward in the inquisiterate .

"Oh I am mostly plan to learn what I can about alchemy. Maybe try to see if there is any way to learn some cryomancy as well though Ka.. I mean my master might be more suited to point me in the direction of someone who can train me in that." She had almost slipped and called her master by her real name but caught herself. She hoped Lyssara wouldn't pull at that string, she reminded herself mentally she had used her masters title in this setting.

"So your learning lightsaber, what is your main ambition of study?" She asked she only had a few minutes yet but one last question before they would later meet up at the library she figured.

I fix my gaze on Tamsin for a moment, noting her palpable enthusiasm. The name Darth Anathemous carries whispers of authority and discipline. The pride she displays is admirable, though tinged with the naivety common to apprentices still marveling at the mysteries of Sith power. I decide to approach her with a proposition that could work in our favor while piquing her interest in alchemy.

"Your ambition for alchemy is… promising," I say in a measured tone, my eyes briefly settling on the inquisitorial saber at her belt. "And your interest in cryomancy is rare a path uncommon yet powerful. However, I doubt you'll find the best tools or masters within the rigid framework of the current academy."

I pause, letting my words sink in. Then, with calculated calm, I continue. "I have a laboratory of my own where I pursue my research in alchemy. A space where academic constraints don't exist and where the pursuit of knowledge is limited only by boldness and will."

I step slightly closer, my gaze sharpening, choosing my words with care. "The Diarchy faction, to which I belong, values this kind of freedom. If you truly wish to deepen your knowledge of alchemy or even cryomancy it might be wise to consider this path. Working with me would grant you direct access to resources the Inquisitorius doesn't always provide to its apprentices. And with your master's support, it could even strengthen your position."

I lean back slightly, a faint enigmatic smile forming on my lips. "Think about it. We can discuss it further at the library. But know this: the brightest minds are forged outside well-trodden paths."

My tone lightens as I prepare to turn away. "And to answer your question, my primary focus is also alchemy. Perhaps our interests aren't so different after all. We can be friends, and shares our researsh if you want"

I walk a little further into the corridor and I turn theatrically towards Tamsin, with a little friendly smile, I hold out my hand to her, closing my eyes confidently.

"If you want join our goal, your welcome, my master is the diarch rellik. What did you say to this offer ? I can offer you, power, relationship, installation, financing, all your wildest dreams, become my ally and you will have it all. We promise, no traps here. You stay free to your moove and do what you want for you own way. That's your choice, not mine."

Tamsin wasn't sure what to say to the offer given too her, it was a lot to consider. It wasn't like her master forbade her from working in or with other groups outside the order. In fac they already did work with another organization not tied to the sith order. However, that was something they both had to keep secret. This might be a similar situation, so the only answer she could give was. "I will have to think about it."

The offer was appealing, also it could work out well for her job in the inquisition in more than one way. Still, she knew it would be tricky, the inquisition was a house of secrets and lies. She watched as Lyssara turned and began to walk away, did she say they were friends. Tamsin smiled to herself and blurted out one last thing. "See you at the library." As she turned to head off to her own class.

3CqckKss_o.png

Hours later Tamsin found herself in the library wondering through rows and rows of books, scrolls, and datapad terminals. Some of the titles on the spines of the books she could read but most were pretty difficult. The library was huge, bigger than Kaila's massive personal library. Kaila would love this place and would probably point out every book she knew by heart to Tamsin if she was here. She might have to bring Kaila here just to show her all the books, tomes, and scrolls.

As she wandered through the isles off shelves that made her feel even smaller than she already was she was on the lookout for Lyssara. Her studies in pyrotechnics had proven somewhat fruitful, she had learned a lot about the element of fire in her first day. She hoped she could retain it all, though she wasn't yet sure how she was going to use it in practice there was still a lot to learn.

On top of that, they had been given a lot of reading homework. There were a lot of words in the textbook Tamsin couldn't even begin to figure out. So, it was a good a thing Lyssara had offered to help her with her reading. As for the other offer that had been maybe Tamsin still wasn't sure on, she thought maybe she would say yes but she really didn't want to cause problems for her master by making that choice. She rounded another corner in the library, and she spotted Lyssara sitting at a table.

After my lightsaber class, I headed to the library where I was supposed to meet Tamsin Graves, a Sith I recently encountered who seems to have trouble reading. I sincerely want to help her and offer my support, just as I would have appreciated someone doing for me when I first arrived here.

Being isolated from everyone is never pleasant, and what's certain is that I now have the means to offer her significant support without compromising her secrets and lies. After all, I have my own as well. What matters to me is that we study chemistry together.

I take a good sip of coffee from my thermos, which is sitting on the table next to my manuscripts and books on the Sith. I learned the language with my master, and it has been very useful. Now, when performing my rituals, I actually understand what I'm doing, which is the greatest reward. It makes my rituals much more powerful and effective, so I might as well share this knowledge with my new friend.

I see her arriving after her classes. She didn't decline my invitation after all, and now she's sitting beside me. I glance up at her from my scroll as I remain seated.

"How was your class?"

I turn the page of the book next to me and continue working on my own assignments. The advantage of my faction is that, in addition to providing the materials we need, we're not bound by a specific allegiance. This would be perfect for Tamsin. I hope things go well because I'd really like to have someone other than my master in my lab for company and to study magic together. It would bring new ideas, which benefits everyone.

I stay focused on my writings while listening to her speak. I assume she'll also bring me her assignments; I promised to teach her how to read, and I fully intend to keep that promise.

"I see you brought your assignments… Shall we get started?"

I offer her a cup of coffee from my thermos. Drinking a hot coffee while working there's no better reward at the end of a long and tiring day. The lightsaber training left me exhausted, so I'm glad to have a bit of a break to focus on studying.
