A Doctor In A Common House

Kay-Larr

With the recent events being what they were, Kay found herself not handling them very well. She was confused and not to mention, hurt. It wasn't as though she had felt unloved, but in some way she felt betrayed; betrayed by the one that loved her the most.

So it was time to interview doctors again, ones that could help with her mental state and to ensure clarity of her mind. Kay wanted to stop making bad choices. It wasn't as though she was making them all the time, but she just wanted to be more sure of herself and more confident.

There was one doctor that used to work for her by the name of [member="Victor Tesla"] . The heavy smoker had helped her during her recovery from her abduction. The physical and psychological wounds from that event took a long time to disappear, or at least to be buried along with many of her other secrets. Hopefully there was another like him out there.

So now was the day for interviewing candidates. Kay had gone through three already. There was some promise in one of them, but she wasn't so sure.

Her assistant Olivia soon knocked on her door, opening it. "My Lady, your next appointment is here to see you."

Kay looked up from her datapad, a cup of tea cradled in her hand. "Thank you, Olivia. Send them in please."

Olivia gave her a curt nod and then looked to the man sitting in a chair by her desk. "The Lady will see you now."

"Well. I hope this won't be overly painful for you." Victor spoke nearly the same words he did when he had met the Queen of Commenor, well over a year ago.

A cigarra clasped in between two of his fingers, a hand tucked into the pocket of his pristine lab coat, the sarcastic tone that made itself home on the man's lips. There was no mistaking the man that was Doctor Victor Tesla.

Tesla strolled towards Kay's desk with a rightfully amused smirk on his face. His absence had surely been noted by the Queen. After his departure which was taken with nearly no notice, the Doctor was sure there would be questions, if not frustration. The analytical eyes on Tesla's face scanned over Kay as they often did in the past. All in all the woman was a pure reflection of how she had been when they first met, so much so it threw the Doctor into a brief moment of nostalgia. Of course it was something that was quickly shaken off.

His hand came from out his pocket, a piece of paper folded into a tight square. Setting his cigarra in between his lips he took a shallow drag as he unfolded the piece of paper. After placing it on the table, revealing it to be a printed version of Kay's add for a new personal doctor, the man could not help but take a seat across from Kay. His posture, his tone, everything was as if he had never left. "You're due for a check up, sweetheart."

Kay just blinked. And stared. Her jaw dropping ever so slightly. Why didn't Olivia tell her [member="Victor Tesla"] was back?? No doubt there was some reasoning behind it all. Maybe her assistant had hoped that she'd kick the doctor out, but that wasn't about to happen.

Olivia closed the door, leaving he two to be alone. Kay watched Victor approach, still smoking away as she's always seen him do. No doubt he was probably making the same observation on her with.her tea. They each had their addictions; Kay's was just the healthier one.

Her eyes fell to the piece of paper that fell onto her desk and she read it over quickly before looking up to the now seated Victor with a slight smirk. "Long overdue, through no fault of my own. I don't suppose that you're going to tell me where you've been?" If there's one thing that she remembered about Victor, it was that he hardly revealed much about himself or his reasons for doing whatever he did.

Tesla's hand dug into his pocket, pulling out a small cheap ashtray he had purchased before coming to meet with Kay. Setting it on the table he was able to ash in it peacefully, before taking another drag of his cigarra.

"Medical research." Was all he offered, saying nothing more on the matter. All in all the past years seemed to have been relatively kind to Tesla. Besides a few more gray hairs added to his brown hair, he seemed the exact same that he had when they met years ago. Realizing his absence may require a bit more than what he was offering, he set his cigarra down on the edge of the tray, a slight cough erupting before he cleared his throat.

"So." He leaned forward, tapping a soft knuckle onto the paper, his glasses drifting to the edge of his nose as he did. "I got the job?"

Medical research. That could either be a lie or a half truth, covering up something else. Either way, [member="Victor Tesla"] didn't seem interested in giving any details. That was his way though. And she remembered that well enough.

Kay smirked a little as he inquired about the job. She had half a mind to give him a witty comment, but her heart wasn't quite into delving into a bit of humour right now. So instead she gave him a little nod. "Yes, you've got the job. You are even able to have your own office." At least he had his own ashtray. "Welcome back."

Now she waited. Would he get up and settle himself in his office? Or would he be starting on the clock now? Kay wasn't sure of which one she preferred. She wanted to talk but didn't at the same time. It was how she felt with most things nowadays. Very indecisive.

An uninterested gaze fell on Kay as she spoke about his own office. He made no attempt to speak until the Queen had welcomed him back. Another drag of his cigarra occurred while he dug in his pocket. “Well. Now that I'm back, we have some catching up to do.” The Doctor pulled a small holorecording device, setting it down on the table in front of him. At the same time he would pinch the embers on the end of his cigarra, tossing the remainder into the ashtray.

“Open subject file, Black Queen, password: Master key.” Victor’s voice caused the holorecorder to activate its voice control function. A soft beep erupted from the device before a computerized voice called out in reply.

“Password accepted, subject file open, would you like to start a new entry?” The voice would ask. Tesla, who was pulling his metal cigarra container from his breast pocket, exhaled before continuing. “Yes.” He responded curtly before tossing the cigarra container on the table in front of her.

“I hear you got married.” He said, pulling a cigarra from the container, however he did not light the nicotine cylinder, instead he merely laid it on the table next to the ashtray.

“We can start there.”

So [member="Victor Tesla"] wanted to get right into it. She figured he'd do that. Kay picked up her tea and had a sip, leaning back in her chair after she had swallowed.

A brow was raised as she heard the name of her file. Black Queen? Well, that sort of made sense given what she was like when he was there last. She was trying to recover from injuries both mental and physical from her abduction. That had happened over a decade ago. She was more or less recovered from that. Now she had a new problem, and it was a big one too.

Even though she didn't like to be recorded, with Victor she knew that he wouldn't leak it or gossip. This was all to do with helping her.

Kay nodded as he gave her the indication to start. "Yes, to [member="Veiere Arenais"] , my old bodyguard and advisor. His proposal was unexpected, but not unwanted. We had a private ceremony with just the two of us. And then a few weeks later we had the bigger ceremony and coronation. And as it turns out, I was able to conceive afterall. We have a set of twins, Caedyn and Loreena. One of my adopted children from my first marriage has also come home to me. We're still trying to find his sister." There were little to no clues to go on.

She couldn't introduce Victor yo any of them either. Not a single member of her family lived on Commenor or in CSA space. Each were gone for seperate reasons.

"But we've expanded our territory, as I'm sure you've noticed. Our economy is doing well and we haven't been at war, fortunately."

Victor had heard of Kay’s marriage to her bodyguard, yet that was all he knew of the man. From what he had gathered the man was some manner of Jedi, yet the Doctor honestly had not been interested enough to pursue information on Veiere. Now something that did surprise was Kay’s ability to conceive.

Taking the cigarra into his hand, he lit it against the lighting function built into his case. “Ok. So you were able conceive?” Tesla took a slow drag of his cigarra before exhaling a small cloud of smoke into the air.

“Who the children favor more? As far as their genetic traits. Hair, eyes, bone structure. Are they closer to you or closer to your husband? And do you remember how long you were in labor?” The news that Kay had children was something important to his total diagnosis of the Queen. If she had children it's entirely possible there could be some trauma there, physical or mental.

Kay nodded. The fault in her first marriage to have kids wasn't her own, but lay on her first husband. Shooting blanks. That was what Veiere called it. Though she didn't repeat it to anyone.

The questions that [member="Victor Tesla"] had posed were odd ones. Did it really matter who they looked like more? It wasn't as though she conceived them all on her own. That was impossible. She was the wrong species. But his questions served some kind of purpose, as oddball as they were. "They have traits from the both of us. I can see little bits of us both in there, as well as in their behaviour." Kay sipped her tea as she thought back on the labour. "They said that I was in labour for over 10 hours, but it didn't feel like that much time had passed. I was taken care of though, and the twins arrived strong and healthy." It wasn't as though she wanted to talk about the physical pain. They had already been through that after her abduction and torture a long time ago. This was a different kind of pain that was only natural and wasn't brought on by some evil being.

Victor took in all of the information carefully, taking a moment to adjust his glasses before clearing his throat. “So you got married, had kids, and Commenor seems to be doing just fine. That means there is something more to it, right?” He asked, arching a brow from behind his metallic frames. If Kay had been going through some type of extreme mental state it had not shown, which left that she is possibly just feeling stressed or closed in by the world around her.

The Doctor stood from his place, taking another shallow drag from his cigarra before speaking openly. “Since you put out that ad in the first place I'm guessing whatever is bothering you isn't something simple. I gather it isn't from any physical or birth-related issues. So why don't you tell me what's wrong?” He asked.

Kay lowered her eyes as [member="Victor Tesla"] asked her what was wrong. How was she to express it? She was having difficulty in finding the words. "It's my husband..." She sipped her tea, pausing for a moment. Did Victor hear anything about Veiere's actions while he was away? She wasn't certain. If he knew, he certainly wasn't letting on about it.

"He's gone Dark. That alone I can deal with, but it's his actions...." Kay looked up at him then with a mixture of sorrow and betrayal in her eyes. "He's gained some followers, created his own Order, his own military and attacked the Jedi Temple on Deneba, a place under our protection and...slaughtered those that wouldn't join him. There were survivours, a few that had escaped. That's how I learned about it." She set down her tea. "I confronted Veiere on it and he claims it justified, a way of severing ties and proving to others that his actions aren't sanctioned by me or our government....I can't just let it go. I can't just let it be unpunished. And I feel as though it's tearing me apart."

Of course, Victor had noticed Kay’s change when her husband was brought up. He took notice that she was hesitant. It couldn't be anything as simple as death, perhaps the man was sick or distressed? It had to be something complicated. When she finally divulged that the King of Commenor had fallen to the Dark Side, it caused the Doctor to nod with an expression of understanding.

After she had finished speaking, Adron pulled his glasses from his face, setting them on the table before him. Silence fell over him as he spoke plainly, not having any sense of diversion in his words. “The Dark Side is perhaps the worst disease in the galaxy. But it's important you understand something. From a medical hand point the force is… Irrelevant. I'm not saying your husband is a bad man, but his actions are bred from his decisions, not the force.”

“So to better help you cope with this, it's important to know that as a mortal being his is not above making the wrong decisions, even if he has some power.” He said, allowing the ashes from his cigarra to fall into the tray below him.

“Now. The best thing for Veiere is to get some help. What's important is he know his actions are wrong, but he has support. You can be that support, but only if he allows it.” He said, taking a long drag of his cigarra before exhaling the small cloud up into the air.

“Have you noticed any… Adverse effects since his fall? Physical, mental, or emotional?”

In some way [member="Victor Tesla"] was correct. The Darkside could be like a disease. She had it for a time, and it was through both Victor and Veiere's help that she got through it and was 'cured'. His choices were his own, whether they were fuelled by emotion or not. Made sense.

She nodded, agreeing that Veiere needed help and that she was there for him if he wanted. But right now she wasn't sure if he'd want her help. Their talk gave her enough to know that her husband thought that he was in the right. He couldn't see the errors in what he had done, instead trying to turn the tables on her and remarking on her past mistakes. Kay had quickly stopped that argument by changing the subject for he was cutting her too deeply.

Kay hung her head down a little as Victor asked if she had noticed any changes in Veiere. As one could guess, she blamed herself for not recognizing it earlier. "After I got back into working more, he became more...reclusive. He tinkered a lot in his shop, creating armour and the like. Physically he let his hair grow wild. But we still talked, still enjoyed eachother's company. Maybe I wasn't around enough for him..."
