A force field that'll stop a sandcrawler...(continued)

Corvus shook her head in a kindly way. “Never apologise to me, you have done nothing wrong. And you’ve certainly done nothing that countless Jedi before you have done – myself included.”

“Now, you have centred yourself again, which is excellent. All you need to do now is raise your barrier and we can continue.”

Corvus held the blaster like it was an offence to her senses – which given what it was, was perfectly true. She abhorred the things.

“Once we’ve finished this, I can show you a couple of quick mediation techniques to help you centre yourself quicker in times of duress."

Her reactionary "I'm sorry" was cut off mid-syllable and turned into the always appropriate Jedi default answer of "Yes, Master." Srihina raised her barrier and waited, focusing on the breath and on faith that the Force would not fail her.

Corvus fired the blaster obliquely. It would skim the barrier and if the defence failed would not put her Padawan at any risk.

This time the barrier held firm and although Srihina was young, Corvus knew that with regular practice, and continued development in drawing and using the Force, this would soon become one of her strengths. "Once you're sufficiently developed, you can learn Force Shield - but that's for another day."

"For now, we should consider meditation. Tell me, have you learned any specific Abilities at the Academy so far?"

Srihina shook her head. She had a general understanding of Control abilities and had -as all initiates did- practiced the basics of energy absorption, self healing, and focus. Not that she considered herself proficient in any of them, since meditation had always been difficult for her. Maybe Master Raaf would have better ways to meditate that made these techniques she longed to explore deeper more accessible. She looked up at Corvus hopefully.

“Meditation is actually a very practical Ability. Especially if you’re combat focused. Let me tell you, the most useful combat ability I have is Force Valor and to achieve it, I had to meditate deeper than I’ve ever meditated before. But for now, find a space and make yourself comfortable. I’d like you to enter a meditative state.”

She handed over a crystal - placing it in her Padawan’s hands. It was from Tython and aided the Jedi in their meditation.

Now Corvus spoke slowly and gently - but loudly enough to hear. “We shall start with the Meditation of Emptiness. It will allow you to centre yourself and achieve deep inner peace. Go deep into your meditation. Open yourself up to the Force. Allow yourself to shed your mind of emotions and feelings. This will let you centre yourself in simple power as well as the strength of the Force. You will reach a place where it is like finding an eye of calm within the centre of one's storm of emotions. Ignore all memories as well as thoughts and feelings. Go to a place where there is nothing else but peace.”

“The additional benefit of this technique is that it can be used to combat external mental influence or attack.”
