A Little Persuasion...(Kära)

Hakan Venttuss

He Who Blinds the Sun
Hakan, only moments ago had just finished a much needed shower after crashlanding his ship on the desolate, abandoned planet of Dagobah. It was a very terrible experience in such a place so filthy and...uncivilized. Well, there was no civilization so uncivilized was the lightest of terms to describe it. One of the ship's thrusters and stabilizers finally malfunctioned, causing him to lose control and force him to land his ship incredibly abruptly on the swamp planet. And as a result of the mechanics going haywire the ship broke when it hit the floor, spun out and hit a tree and bounced right into the swamp. So his ship was now happily broken and unsalvageable, serving as some form of haven for whatever resided in its murky waters now. The ship had finally achieved its dreams of being an underwater ornament rather than a method of transportation. It was if it was destined to be underwater.

As a result of the initial crash, Hakan's head hit the cockpit, leaving a massive now-coagulated purple scar on his forehead and a couple of coagulated spots under his nostrils as he hit the dashboard head on. Also giving him a mild concussion but he resisted it with his strength. Now all he needed to do was convince his Master and Saviour, Kära. To get him a new ship. Wonderful, he hadn't requested anything from her before and he was almost certain he'd annoy her with this news.

Making his way through the ship's corridors, passing by the various slaves who gave him respectful acknowledgements as one of the Queen's apprentices. It was strange to him getting all of this respect, but he wasn't going to complain about it. It was a nice change from being whipped all the time.

He arrived at Kära's quarters, after the guards allowed him in he bowed respectfully. His wounds clearly visible to her. "Master..." He spoke respectfully, he'd only continue speaking after she allowed him.

The Sith Lady paced across her quarters, which were very modest considering the size of the ship and her ownership of it. Her gaze was fixated upon the transparisteel viewing port, through which the glorious stars could be seen. "Someone here to see you, My Lady" came a voice, the Captain of her Shadow Guard. With a simple nod of her head she bid whoever it was entrance, but she did not turn her sights toward them. Her hands settled down to the small of her back, linking together. For a moment she said nothing, even when she heard Hakan's voice. Her breathing was calm, her posture perfectly composed.

Finally she turned her head, just enough that he could see a fleeting aspect of her face in the shadows; the room was dark, the lights had all been shut off, and only the eerie glow of the stars lit their beings. "Tell me, how was Dagobah? Did you find it as enlightening as Luke Skywalker or Starkiller did?" With a slightly amused smile she beckoned him over, her head turning back to face the stars. "It seems the ship you acquired of your own accord wasn't up to standards, Hakan. But worry not, we can rustle up something worthy of a man in your position." Raising one hand from her back she thumbed her chin in thought.

"Did you know I was a shipwright, Hakan? I could commission you a ship and have it ready soon enough. How does that sound to you, Apprentice?" After all, as her Apprentice he reflected upon her. She could not have him running around in a poorly built ship. And besides, she had plans in the works to create a ship for her new project... Perhaps this could set the precedent she required.

Hakan wasn't too surprised she knew where he was honestly. Information travelled quickly. He looked a wonderful blend of ashamed and embarassed, averting his gaze slightly. He expected to be seen as some kind of rookie, it was horrible. Then again crashing the ship wasn't a fun experience in itself. And neither was Dagobah, he came across only one intelligent life form. The rest were just terrifying swamp creatures. Uncivilized masterfully.

"No it wasn't." He merely responded. "And my journey was just as uneventful. I gained nothing from it." He spoke, his voice showing all the stress and annoyance that the crash landing brough him. Although now he was in a more secure location, finally happy to be around the craft again and not in some deserted terrain devoid of all Human life. But here he was being promised a new craft, which he couldn't help but accept. "I'd very much appreciate that." Replying respectfully. Interesting, he wondered what she had in store for him, and it also seemed as if the ship would come from her own industry, all the more exciting. "That sounds...Amazing." Suppressing his excitement. "I figured you had a business in that industry, as I couldn't recognize any of your crafts." He answered honestly enough.

Settling her hand back down to its former position she turned away from the stars and began to walk away from the viewing port. "Tell me, Hakan, what kind of an individual are you?" This would help her to mould the ship to his needs, while also ensuring the blueprints created would likewise produce a craft usable by others. Kära had a constantly practical mind, it made more sense to create something of universal worth while retaining a degree of specialisation, as opposed to that which could only be used once.

"As for Dagobah, see it as a learning curve. Things in the Galaxy do not always go according to plan, in fact they rarely do. Learn to take what is thrown at you, but do not allow yourself to be diverted from your main aims too much. Do you understand what I mean by this, Apprentice?" Pacing the room once again she focused on nothing in particular. A small smile was upon her lips, however; she was not displeased with what happened - a poorly crafted ship was bound to give way at some point, regardless of who lay behind the controls.

He supposed he'd have to expect this kind of question. "Well I'd consider myself an individual who likes to get the job done quickly and effectively. So a fast and well-armed craft would probably suit me most. And I always like to have a bit of extra versatility as my trials and tribulations on Dagobah have taught me that anything can happen." He spoke honestly, hoping to have accurately described himself. Which he thought he had but his old ship was nothing apart from fast. And even that seemed to provoke its downfall, which was unfortunate, but at least he got a new ship and a lesson learned from all the terrible experiences.

"Yes Master." He confirmed, while it was an incredibly unpleasant experience, he did see it as some form of advice for future situations. Teaching him that he needed versatility and that he had to be prepared for any situation, as he wasn't before and he was left by himself to find his way back aboard the ship. Yet it also taught him that the food on Dagobah was awful and was never to be eaten again.

With a nod of her head the woman took a side step off her former path and toward a discreetly hidden screen to one side of her room. Everything of Kära's had its place and purpose, after all. Bringing out a datapad from her robes the larger screen upon the wall lit up, flashing for a moment and casting a ghostly light upon her face. Using the datapad to navigate, a plan began to quickly form on-screen. While many at Rahvin Industries doubted that their C.E.O, who in their eyes was not in fact Kära but a puppet-woman she worked through, had any capabilities where the construction and planning of ships were concerned, it was not in fact the case.

Working effectively she created a rough skeleton to begin with. The ship on-screen was small compared to what she usually worked with, clearly a personal-craft. The visual details could be built upon as the evening continued. "Pull up a chair, if you wish, Apprentice. We could be here a while." Kära however remained standing. Her gaze flicked back to Hakan, as though weighing him up in her mind. "Given the sorts of trials which lay ahead for you, I'm thinking a detainment centre would work wonders. What say you?"

Hakan did as instructed and set up a chair, intruiged at what he was going to see on this display she had just erected. Watching as the lighting brightened up the room. This was all incredibly exciting. His ship, and a ship which would actually function for him and be well equipped! He was buzzing in his seat although he didn't show it. Hakan loved ships and anything which revolved around mechanics, even droids and the like he found an affection for and spent his time repairing odd gadgets when he had nothing better to do.

However he'd probably leave it to the mechanics to repair this ship, Hakan was only good at fast repairs he couldn't imagine himself working with a shiny new craft which had only just lifted off the production line. She asked him about his opinions on a detainment room, which given the types of missions he'd probably go on the possibility of him taking a prisoner was there. "Given my line of work it'd be an ideal service to have." Affirming her question. Besides if there were no prisoners the thing could just be used as a normal area.

One single nod was all the acknowledgement she gave, as a fresh set of blueprints began to take shape upon the screen. This time it was the interior that was specified, with a section of hangar-space being removed in order to ensure the space for the detainment centre. Two cells which appeared to be of ample size were added in, Kära's hand being swift and to the point. As she worked she spoke aloud, informing him of the more intricate aspects. "The crew will be larger than you can man, at least if you want this thing working at optimum efficiency. Those I can provide, fully trained and obedient. It will cost a little extra, but overall the ship will come in at less for you than it will should any others be made and sold."

Waving her hand a droid stepped from the shadows. "Yes, Mistress?" it inquired of her, but instead the woman spoke to Hakan. "What do you think of it? Have a look, try it out, I will be putting a few onboard for your benefit." It was one of the droids designed by Valik, and it was incredibly efficient and effective. While she waited a response she knuckled down on some of the more generic details, those which Hakan needed no say in.

This ship looked a magnificent blend of imposing with its sharp edges and triangular cockpit, but also incredibly sleek, nothing stuck out unneccessarily, which he supposed was the Rahvin Industries way, he could also see that the wings folded up for easier hangar storage. Yet another future that this design board liked to incorporate into their crafts, going to show the level of detail that the company wanted to respect. It was nice really, seeing a company such as this expanding to produce ships for very "special" customers, with Hakan being one of them. "That's quite alright, Master. It would take a burden off my shoulders." He spoke, meaning he wouldn't have to fly the ship itself, the trained crew would do the job for him.

He looked at the droid, wondering what its business was but it turned out these droids would be members of his crew, that was fine. It was a nice shiny coating and didn't look at all like a bucket of bolts. "It looks like it can handle the job adequately. I've worked with a fair share of droids and this one looks a lot more capable."

"Now now" she said, turning her head sharply to tut in his direction, "Sith or no you still need to know how to adequately pilot your own ship; do not get lazy." Turning back to the board she brought the former blueprint up to make several edits on the styling, as well as beginning to introduce the quality armaments. While Rahvin Industries rarely dealt with offensive mechanisms where their ships were concerned, it was nothing new to the Sith Lady. Her focus here was to ensure it was compact, allowing for a stealthier approach. She did not want the ship to be noticeably offensive, meaning the armament itself ought to be retractable to hide within.

"The droid is effectively a butler. If you would rather organics instead then just say so, but if this model becomes standardised the droids will be part of the typical package" She shrugged her shoulders a little. Despite the fact that this ship was for him she did not speak to him about the armament, instead deciding that when he had the ship she would talk him through them. At this stage of the game he would be hungry for power, and likely ignorant to the rationality behind her choices.

"I'm quite sure I'll manage. I can't imagine it being much more complex than my previous craft which attempted to take my life." He spoke with a comical smile, referencing his near-death scenario as a mere joke. He was a Sith, they weren't exactly the most cherished beings on the planet so near-death experiences would be commonplace, he'd better start getting used to them. But the ship looked incredibly stealthy, which was most likely the point, and with a lot of extra personnel on board the ship should work just fine, especially since this craft appeared to be very mechanically sound judging by the blueprints, appearances could be deceiving however. But that remained to be seen once it was fielded for the first time, or at the very least tested by a trained pilot. While Hakan was a very good pilot and mechanic for his age. The craft would be better suited to someone who would quickly gauge its advantages and disadvantages and what could be improved to give a first impression of the craft before Hakan assumed control of it.

"I don't mind. As long as they're reliable and do the job then I have no complaints, each one has their advantages and disadvantages however so a mixture of both for now would suffice." He spoke, knowing that droids didn't require food, nutrients or anything else and they'd function even in the vacuum of space. However Organics were reliable. They never had malfunctions or glitches but this droid was an RI product so it was most definitely quality tested, so in the long run a few droids couldn't do any harm. Besides. Hakan knew his way around a droid or two.

Kära frowned a little, not really one for humour. She stepped across to the screen and shut it off, her gaze drifting down to the datapad in her grasp. "Leave me now, I will summon you when I am done." The rest she could finish up herself. It felt strange to be working with weapons again, at least where ship-design was concerned. The dismissive gesture she gave him was one of a very busy individual, and was in no way intended to seem rude. At present Kära simply had a lot to work upon.

--

Preliminary testing for what had been dubbed the Blacklight Project was going extremely well. Thus far there had been no issues with the ship design, it worked efficiently, but Kära was not so quick to pass off the testing process in favour of creating more than prototypes. She watched as results pooled upon her screen, before tapping her chin. Then she ordered more tests, and turned away; she had another meeting to attend.

--

Finally the Queen of Shadows was satisfied. It had perhaps taken a little longer than anticipated, but that was the way of Rahvin Industries: rather quality test a product than half-arse it. Her Apprentice had been relying upon standard-issue dropships for transportation, but this was the big day, the grand unveiling so to speak. "Hakan" she said, inclining her head towards her Apprentice. "It is time." Leading him away she ventured toward the hangar bay, awaiting his response.

There, before them, sat the Blacklight, the first of its series. "I want to know the moment anything comes up with this ship, no matter how minor a 'fault' it may seem. Is that understood?"

"Yes Master." He spoke respectfully as he left the room, he learned that his master was indeed very multitalented, knowing how to commission and design ships very well indeed. And all of Rahvin Industries design quality was all down to how precise and how fully-functional their products were and it was all because of the extensive tests and engineering she demanded of her technicians and designers. It was actually rather inspirational.
--
The tests were now underway and his new ship seemed to be passing them with flying colors, which was a relief considering that ship testing could go either way. It was all very good designing a high-tech innovative ship. But it'd mean nothing if the ship was unreliable and crashed, causing deaths to test pilots. But it seemed as if that was not an issue with this ship. Passing armor tests, cargo testing, target practicing. The lot, and the ship seemed to hold great potential for a craft designed for very "special" customers.
Hakan was merely waiting, going about his everyday life and continuing his training.
--
He had been summoned to his Master's side by one of the servants, and with that she announced simply that "it was time", he knew exactly what she meant. He buzzed with excitement to finally get his own ship, with a crew which would cater to the ship and his needs. Marvellous. "Ah yes. I presume the tests went well?"
And with that, there it was. 46 meters of stealth-painted magnificence, and the first one to roll off the production line, sporting the serial number, 1. Prestigious indeed. "It's even more impressive in person, master." He spoke, a wide smile on his face as he analysed the ship, sleek and imposing. Better than the blueprints.

"You can count on me." He replied, knowing that it was important that the ship was well made and perfectly suited, faults were not acceptable in Rahvin Industries, whereas with other manufacturers sometimes "faults" were just renamed as "disadvantages". Not here though.

With a nod of her head the Sith Lord turned her head across to look upon him. "There is also a full crew awaiting your command. Alongside this I have taken it upon myself to present you with a squad of Bladeborn troops, should you need them. Do not waste their lives, it's very unresourceful." Reaching into her robes she brought forth a datapad, and typed a few things into it. The screen lit up, before she turned it across to him. "This is the cost of the ship, components and crew. The squad is a gift from myself, and you have a minor deduction in price due to your position as my Apprentice. Is this an agreeable price?"

Kära was not one to verbally say the price aloud, instead allowing it to remain private for Hakan. With a slight tilt of her head she waited to hear his response, her gaze travelling across to the magnificent ship she had produced. A few more lay in storage, but there was less than a handful at present... And they were not on the market. Hakan would be unlikely to ever run into another with this ship - at least, not until Kära's plans came to fruition.

"Of course." He reassured her about his crew's safety, it was important they stayed alive because they were neccessary to the ship's function but also since they were actual living beings. They weren't just created or manufactured just like that. They needed to be trained and taught how to be as powerful and reliable as they were, so being resourceful with such talented soldiers was very important and he'd do his best to see that their survivability remained stable.

The sum was pretty high but it was a new craft and those never came cheap, but it was easily in his budget so he nodded. It'd suffice in any case. It was mostly just him not used to seeing something with so many digits when it came to prices.

"Very well, my dear, have the credits sent to this account" she said, bringing up the correct details on the screen, "and consider this ship yours. Feel free to go and try her out, and perhaps she'll be needing a name." With an after thought she fully handed him the datapad. "That is encrypted and filled with any information you will be requiring where the ship is concerned, including a visual map of the ship."

With a subtle inclination of her head, treating him more like a customer than an Apprentice at the moment, she added "Remember to let the company know if anything goes awry." But the moment passed, and he was her Apprentice again. "Do not take too long settling in, I expect to see you in the training room by the end of the day." And thus Kära disappeared, leaving him to acquaint himself with ship, crew and squad; all of whom were waiting for him.
