The sky faded and the heavens darkened, the sun itself swallowed by a black maw that allowed only a single, fiery ring of light to escape the abyss. Across the vast plains of Mandalore, over the roaring oceans and the humble villages, a predatory shadow gave chase to the mid-day light. Like a wave, the darkness swept away the sunlight until it fully encompassed the city of Keldabe and the villages surrounding it for miles in all directions.

The Rebirth hung in the sky - a black sun wreathed in fire overtaking the planet. Mere moments would pass before the raven-sun was joined by a scattering of stars that appeared in the Stygian sky by the dozens. The clouds above the cities were torn to shreds and the oceans themselves pulled towards the mechanical beast in orbit - sending the tides crashing up the docks of Keldabe city and flooding the lowest streets. The air itself grew thinner as the gravitational pull of the Worldcraft seemed to have shifted the very bonds of reality in all that fell within its shadow.

"Miria" Irridius called, taking his eyes away from the view of the coming battle just long enough to raise a beckoning hand to the small, pale girl, "come, it is imperative that you witness what we are about to achieve."

Miria said nothing - as she always did - and glided from the back of The Rebirth's command room to the Grand Admiral's side. Putting a gentle, gloved hand on the pressed Imperial uniform he had assigned her, Irridius took about his command as the rest of the fleet hyperspaced into the system...

tViu7pN.png

"Captain Mirzi," Irridius pointed out several gun emplacements across The Rebirth on a hologram floating ghostly over the command center floor, "Detach cannons H-one through twenty to begin immediate bombardment of the planet's defense rings. Twenty-one through forty are to begin harassment of the planetary shields over Keldabe - until they break."

The Mandalorians had a fatal flaw to be exploited - when it came between the preservation of order and the lives of those who are inconsequential to battle, they would always choose the latter. With the bulk of Mandalorian forces in battle or defending borders against the Republic Remnant, the garrison of Mandalore would be left to fight and evacuate civilians by themselves.

Their desire to save their people would drag their forces towards Keldabe and the villages and away from the place that truly mattered.

"Cannon T-one through two-hundred - begin displacing the minefields around Mandalore, I want our path clear when those shields fail. All other weapon emplacements begin the destruction of satellites and defense stations in the system."

Across the immense orb, nova-like flashes would open up the darkness of space. In a constant rotation, the Worldcraft would be able to offer constant and revolving fire against all targets in the system, the harassment of fire neverending. Slowly the vessel would press forward from just past Concordia's orbit, towards the planet.

Already the shields of the worldcraft were being pelted by defenses emplacements around the system, the battle had begun.

Vice Admiral Killian Horz of the Shadow of Regret watched as the Assault Line took up positions and presented the brunt of its firepower towards whatever fleet the Mandalorians had stationed above their homeworld.

His mission was clear, secure space superiority over Mandalore's orbit and crush what Irridius took to calling "the savages". With The Rebirth at their back, the fleet approached with the security in the knowledge that the scanners and weapons of the Worldcraft would protect their rear flank.

"All vessels, deploy fighters and interceptors - screen the fleet while on approach" Turning to his communications commander, "Deploy two squadrons of bombers with interceptor escort and probe the enemy's defenses."

"Firebrand, Victory at Myrkr and The Battle at Dawn are to a position at our flanks, stacked wedge. Tempest and Abyss, begin patrol on the lower and upper flanks of the line."

The line of battle slowly shifted as they approached the enemy fleet, The Star Destroyer - Shadow of Regret - positioned itself at the top of what would look to be a wide pyramid in space. Each Victory spread itself several kilometers from the others, each vessel positioning itself lower than the last as if making a cosmic stairway.

At the end of it all, the Shadow of Regret would be flanked by two Victories on its left and one on its right, with the Abyss and Tempest positioned above and below the formation respectively. This allowed for each ship to have a fast range of coverage for the others.

They would have to be careful to keep their distance, the minefields would decimate their ships if they were careless. Hopefully, however, by staying in the shadow of The Rebirth as they were, the orbital defenses would ignore them from the bigger target.

Concordia was the lesser of the two evils to be faced today, it was defended but not as much so as its larger counterpart. Using the moon itself as a shield from the defenses surrounding Mandalore, The Immaculate Reach and its Assault Line cruised at speed toward their targets.

Unlike the pyramid created by Vice Admiral Horz, this line approached in the formation of a spearhead with the Immaculate Reach acting as its tip. There would be no severe bombing of the surface, no grand campaign of destruction. The goal here was to seize the vast mines of Mandalorian Iron from the installation on the moon and retrieve the contents for the Empire.

Deep within the bellies of the vessels, white clade legions stirred. Rows of armored warriors rushing to pods and shuttles that awaited the order to push planetside.

"All scanners, divert functions to pinpointing orbital defenses on the moon - prepare ventral emplacements for precision strikes."

An "aye sir" echoed throughout the Star Destroyer's bridge as Vice Admiral Maxis barked his orders, "Good. Now tell those marines that they are about to eat some dirt, all shuttles on standby alert and prepare all fighter escorts."

While The Rebirth and the majority of the invading fleets were just outside the orbital ring of Concordia, the Bombardment and Pursuit Lines were closer to Mandallia. Being the sixth orbital position in the system, it lied neighbor to Mandalore - just close enough to put the planet in the effective range of their far-reaching weapons.

"All torpedos and missiles, lock onto the orbital defenses surrounding Mandalore." Alexa Dyre stood staunchly at the head of the Invictus, the most powerful weapon in the arsenal of the EoTH. "Fire all portside launchers and reload - fire starboard launchers when the port side have reached ninety-percent readiness and not a second sooner."

The missiles would take several minutes to impact the orbital defense rings surrounding Mandalore, but they would approach in a veil that would hopefully overwhelm their defenses. Using the Broadside IIs it would count for 120 projectiles approaching simultaneously.

"Begin all reactor ignitions" She commanded lastly, turning to the head operator of the superlaser, "I want the weapon operational as soon as we move into operational range"

The vacuum of space would then light up with the hellish glow of missiles as they arched from the silos of the Broadside IIs and propelled toward the defenses of Mandalore. Meanwhile, the pursuit line formed a defensive circle around the bombardment line - keeping it protected from whatever ships may come.

Silent footsteps carried her forward until she stood next to [member="Lucien E. Irridius"] at the command center, overlooking the planet of Mandalore where it orbited peacefully, its false serenity broken by the numerous defenses visible even from this distance. The quiet was broken as orders were swiftly handed down, her silver eyes darting to and fro as she witnessed the light-show brought to life before her. It was beautiful in the way only destruction could be, in that it would inevitably bring about a stronger and more worthwhile existence from the ashes. A sort of beauty she could appreciate, as her mother had had a taste for it as well.

Pale skin blended nearly entirely with the neatly pressed uniform she wore, white hair pulled back into a military regulation bun, as per the standards expected of her. Despite her appearance Miria was far from one of the military, and if her stature and age didn't demonstrate as much, then her stance did. While still disciplined and straight in posture, something about the way she stood was lacking to the typical form present among the officers that surrounded her. Still, her hands were folded neatly in front of her, the very tip of her tail twitching absently.

Their presence here was temporary, their intention to seize resources that were better utilized in Imperial hands than they ever would be among lesser individuals. She had offered no commentary when the explanation was provided, merely nodding along in silence, as was commonplace. As the fleet had mobilized she had observed, quietly fascinated by the speed and efficiency with which they carried out their duties. It was something she could only marvel at, for her position was among the politicians of this Empire, which for now counted only herself among their number.

Thin-fingered hands wove her words deftly into the air, her way of speech far more elegant and entirely silent. 'What of their retaliation? Once they uncover the false information, I mean.'

Mandalore Orbit - above Sundari (moving to Keldabe)

"They brought a worldcraft." The comment slipped out from an astounded sensor technican.

"It's not exactly a Rekali masterwork, is it?" Asked Renj Kryze, the second in command of the Eyrie.

"No, it's not. But it would seem a waste to sit here like sleeping chicks, wouldn't it?" Shia responded from the veranda of her home on the worldship, where until now she had been sunbathing, eyes scanning the sensor data being beamed up from the Eyrie's CIC, even as the false sky above her began to glow with the light of battle.

"Oya, alor." Renj replied, gesturing to the command staff with an urgent wave.

"Redirect primary power from aux to shields, bring the cannons on line - target that incoming worldcraft. All fighters launch, hold defensive formation. Helm?"

"Yes, alor?" Another voice answered.

"Bring us to a direct line geosynch orbit over Keldabe, we'll take those shots."

That was an... optimistic statement. The Eyrie was another worldcraft, immense and ponderous, more station than ship and it slowly shifted its high orbit position - traditionally above Sundari and the palace - across the continents to hover above the ancient city.

Across the worldship, alarms began their traditional wail - the Kryze drummed their warriors to battle. Families raced to move children into shelters, keepers and animal experts hurredly moved valuable species into the protection of the decks. The massive mountain ranges folded back, revealing their false peaks which concealed immense weapons emplacements even as their Night Owl residents screached warnings and flew for sheltered, lower ground - the semi-sentient creatures had witnessed test firings, and their human hosts had impressed upon them the dangers. Force-fields altered states, creating firing windows in the immense shields as turbolasers and hypervelocity railgun rounds spat out across space at the closing opposing worldship.

From the southern pole, an immense wave of fightercraft detached - few bombers and other heavy craft, mostly Fang Fighters and other Mandalorian anti-starfighter interceptors, the swarm ready to ward off the incoming attackers.

"T-Minus 2...mag locks disengaging...ventral propulsion check...and...green" The monotonous rounds of checks and pre-flight jabber used to be an annoyance - but standing gridlocked in a dropship oven didn't seem so bad anymore. Not when he knew that just outside the hanger there were what, millions? Billions of warriors? Maybe there were too many to even bother counting and they'd all want to kill him.

Him of all people. He'd never even met a Mandalorian before, heard of them sure, but he couldn't tell you more than what the Empire's propaganda churned out. Well, that and what the other guys said at the lounge about them. The propaganda told a story of savages and barbarians too primitive to have a true people or nation.

But the stories the veterans told...about the landing site on Myrkr...

"T-Minus sixty-seconds. Wildfire is go." The shuttle shook and the floodlights cut out, Leon's heart jumped into his throat and the cabin was bathed in dim, red light.

The countdown was an eternity.

"thirty" his heart wrapped against his chest,

"twenty" the blood boiled behind his eyes,

"Ten" his world became a narrow tunnel,

"Mark" he wanted to go home.

The shuttle lurched and he planted his feet more firmly into the steel, gripping his rifle close to his stomach, trying to squeeze the contents back into place. Leon's world was a shaking hell inside a steel casket, but he was but one cog in the machine.

A number amongst a raffle. Wildfire shot out into the darkness of space, joining a steel cloud of troop shuttles, armor transports, fighters and bombers. The swarm pushed on, through the hail of red and green blaster fire as orbital defenses scattered the sky with flak and blaster fire - and the star destroyers retaliated with earth-shattering strikes to make a hole for the invasion.

Hell was not a single place - it was several.

And Leon was in the middle of his.

Aedan Miles strode through the bridge of the Dinui be Chaab his exposed eye flashing darkly as he entered the bridge the ship already in hyperspace with it he knew were a small portion of Blood Fleet. They had been alerted to the presence of a large force on their way through space towards Mandalore as such they had scrambled what ships were fully armed and fueled at the time before making the jump to hyperspace. They were nearing their destination and Aedan knew they were already running late. He would deliver death to any fool who thought they could attack the home of the Mando'ade. Just as he took his seat on the command throne the ship shook and came out of hyperspace to the rear of a very large battle group. Snarling as he saw ships breaking towards the planets surface he activated the fleet wide communications contacting the Evakmar MK 3 corps carrier on that ship was the newest member of his clan and someone he planned to test today. "Lao I want you to lead the men on that ship on the ground. The enemy will likely target Sundari Palace I expect you to protect that place with your life if you must." [member="Lao Tzu"] As he watched the Evakmar break away with an escort of 5 Dire-class patrol ships and a Unicorn-class Heavy Cruiser leading the way he turned his attention to the forces before him gritting his teeth as he stood flinging his hand out before him barking orders loudly. "ALL SHIPS LAUNCH FIGHTERS ANY SHIP WITH LONG RANGE WEAPONS TARGET THE SHIPS BEFORE US! We aim to break their flank and dive into their midst. Show them the might of Clan Akaata also any ship we disable dispatch boarding parties to primary targets are fire control, bridge, and engine rooms. We hold those and we can take the rest as we move." The bridge crew voiced their understanding of his orders as they all went about it. Aedan himself turned to look at the holo table taking into account other Mandalorian forces here as well as his froce they were still outnumbered but things were closer now they stood a chance. They only had to hold out until Australis came he would be here soon hopefully.

"Copy that."

Lao responded to Aedan over the comms as he took a moment to fuddle it with a bit of static as it stopped communicating.

He had changed the colors of his armor for his new Clan. The new colors of the armor were Gold and Orange. He felt like a large type of fruit, but these were not his choice is colors. He did have his issued Mandalorian Armor with the correct colors and the associated weapons, but he preferred his own. He knew there weaknesses and there strengths. His weapons being primarily either made by him such as his lightsabers or the two guns and armor from the now dead, Vitae Alliance.

As others were running around, Lao took his time to get to the right ship. He didn't know the language so it took longer than it should have. As he boarded the ship it took off, with the rest in the group. They were headed planet side, he was fine with that as long as there was some action. He did not know the correct protocols or such but he knew what he was going to do, hold the line at the Sundari Palace. The first order that Lao gave was simple.....

"Fire at those bastards while once we get in range and don't stop. This is going to be quick ride so be ready, and once we hit planet side be prepared for some fun."

"They will and it will be of no consequence. Once we have finished our work here, the fleet will return to dark space. This has all been planned, Miria." Patting her gently, he stepped forward and watched the holographic ships dance about his bridge as they mimicked the movements of the battlespace, "Be one step ahead of your enemy, Miria. That is the key to victory - be one step ahead and you'll never fail again."

Folding his hands to the small of his back, he watched unsurprised as the Mandalorian fleets began dropping out of Hyperspace. He tapped the small of his back lightly, watching the pieces play out before taking note of the Mandalorian wordcraft. He had suspected it to be a problem, to intervene in his bombings or disrupt his fleet movements - but he could never have dreamed the Mandalorians would play their part so perfectly.

Or perhaps he could.

Turning back to Miria, he shared with her a snake oil grin, "See, the Mandalorians are a predictable people. They scramble to protect their people before the danger has even truly arrived." turning to his command pit, Irridius pointed out the officer in charge of the Capital Ship Hangers and their tractor beams,

"Lieutenant, I believe it is time that we unveiled our surprise. Deploy Hangers one through three and begin preparations to target the nearest shield generator in orbit around Mandalore. Notify me when preparations are complete." there was a sharp affirmative in response and Irridius turned back towards the orbital station that The Rebirth had been firing away at - then noted the Golan battle stations that had slowly been draining the Imperial Worldcraft's shields and then the many enemy craft exiting orbit.

"Redirect all turbolaser fire on the Golan Defense Stations and their orbital garrisons, then commence redirection of-

The Grand Admiral was cut off as the light faded to darkness and then quickly returned. Before he could turn to demand an answer, the technician was already relaying a report - "Power fluctuation sir, The Rebirth's automated systems are correcting power dispersal to the shields in order to plug holes created by enemy fire. Nothing to worry about."

"Yet. Redirect Cannons H-one through H-ten to commence fire on the Savage Battlecruiser ([member="Kaine Australis"]), focus efforts on engines and power systems - retrieve the vessel intact. All remaining cannons are to support Assault Line Beta against the flagship approaching their position ([member="Aedan Miles"])."

Just then a call from the command pit, "Sir! Star Destroyers are away and targeting solution for the tractor beam is prepared!"

"Excellent, Tarkin's Will is to immediately support Assault Line Alpha - Caalgen's Spite and Imperious are to engage the enemy fleet near the moon and deploy their forces to support the invasion." Turning once more to the shield station above Mandalore, "Deploy the tractor beam and slow the satellite's orbit by thirty percent, then engage repulsor actions and alter its course ten-degrees...have the computer confirm the results."

There was a pause as the officer input the information into one of the many consoles of the command pit. "Sir...simulations propose that an additional 5-degree shift in orbit would put the station into freefall with a course set to impact the shields above Keldabe."

"Perfect." A wicked smile grew slicker, "make the adjustments and begin the operation."

The Mandalorian in command of the worldcraft would have a choice to make now. Take the devastating impact of the station on her own vessel, destroy the shield station, or let it impact the shields with the resulting debris killing countless innocents in Keldabe.

"Brace for impact! Brace for-

The scream came over the communications, followed by a wave of static. Sensors screamed out across the bridge of the Shadow of Regret, sirens wailing to bring attention to the gravitational wave shredding apart the Firebrand's hull. The fighter screen, point defense and Tempus-Classes had moved to engage the incoming missiles and the support fire from The Rebirth had done its job in thinning the herd, but it wasn't enough to stop all the munitions from getting through.

If Firebrand was lucky, The Victory-IIIs evasive frame would bend and move with the energy and keep the whole ship from snapping in two. At least that was the idea behind the armor...If it was enough to stop a gravity bomb was anyone's guess. But with the cascade of fire that'd been hitting the fleet, who knew what their situation was like...

A second flash of panic prompted a warning across the screen built into the viewport of his flagship. A real-time holorecording showed him the image of The ISD Battle at Dawn as it took a small swarm of ion-charged mines to its portside hull. The energy field cracked and sparkled, but didn't seem to fail.

"Report! Damage report immedia-"

"Sir! Hyperspace fluctuations, aft!"

Cutting the rest of his orders off, Vice Admiral Varz turned his attention to another set of layouts. "Damnit! All vessels, about face and ready primary weapons!"

The Shadow of Regret was a bulky vessel and turning it to a complete about-face was a feat in of itself. But it'd be able to get its port weapons to bare before the enemy emerged from hyperspace. The smaller Victory at Myrkr and Battle at Dawn had no trouble obeying the order, nor did the Tempest and Abyss - doing a complete about-face in a matter of time that'd sheer the Shadow of Regret in half.

The Firebrand, however, budged only after several moments had past, putting it in the same position as The Shadow of Regret.

"T-this is Firebrand, reporting...several on-board casualties, but our shields are still operational. Significant hull damage-

"Are you still combat effective?"

A pause, "Yes."

"Good! Then form up! All fighters reposition to intercept vectors and prepare to engage enemy sub-capitals. Victory IIIs, spin-up for rotation pattering on your Imperators - all light weapons on standby to engage picket craft."

A series of acknowledgments, then he continued, "Battle at Dawn, Victory at Myrkr, load your warhead launchers with carbonite and incendiary munitions - Firebrand prepare intrusion missiles."

No sooner had the last command been given that the Mandalorian fleet emerged from Hyperspace and the void was lit up with turbo bolts as the ships fired by sight alone - their targeting computers still working out precise firing solutions.

"Sir! Rebirth Command is communicating that they've dispatched Tarkin's Will to our vector"

"Good, then get them in the fight!"

Pelts of fire tested the line's shields as a large fleet dropped from behind their position, sending waves of energy streaking across the shields of the Imperial ships. Interestingly enough, however, when they deployed their ground forces they sped off past the moon towards Mandalore - ignoring the invasion force on the moon. Even as the Admiral began shouting orders to his men, the mostly unimpeded invasion force landed on the moon and began taking ground.

"Turn to face the enemy, all victories focus fire on that carrier [Death's Nest]! Set your Imperators to quad-burst, maximize your damage! All point defense on high alert!" The victories could turn on a dime, being fast and nimble, unlike the Imperial IVs. The smaller vessels were about-faced and delivering return fire within moments - their powerful weapons spitting six times every ten seconds. A hail of 1,500 bolts rained down on the carrier every ten seconds as the smaller vessels concentrated their main guns on the vessel.

"Sir, should we deploy our own fighters?"

"Yes, but keep them near the ships for defensive engagement only and order all victories to load Homing missiles into all bays" Rubbing his goatee furiously, his next order was on his mind in seconds, "Turn the Immaculate Reach on its side, ventral ports facing the enemy, release power from our main batteries to boost ventral shields"

"Sir?" his concerned XO questioned

"We must protect the victories while they engage the enemy one at a time, our vessel can take much more punishment than they can - but their weapons are more than adequate when able to be focused. Command the Triumphant and Malice to position themselves at our dorsal and provide our exposed top cover from starfighters. Close the ventral hanger and double power to the ventral point defense."

Hesitantly the bridge acknowledged and lept about their commands. All at once the entire crew threw themselves towards the nearest restraints and buckled in as the massive Star Destroyer tilted and presented its strong ventral shields and armor to the enemy. Then, using its forward thrust, began to put itself between the victories and the enemy fleet in such a way to deflect what fire it could without disrupting their line of fire to their current target.

Meanwhile, the two additional Imperial IV's made hast in the distance.

The missiles that'd been launched minutes ago finally reached their mark, aimed to collide with the defenses of Golan stations around Mandalore (that's about all I got for you Kaine).

But bigger issues had arisen, more Mandalorians were arriving by the minute and that meant that Alexa's mission just changed. "All ships forward towards the Mandalorian Fleet near Concordia, lock onto the engines of the flagship and hold fire until we get closer. I want the pursuit line to take the lead and shield us from fighter swarms."

"And the weapon ma'am?"

A wicked grin, "Initiate second and third reactor charge."

Mantis-Australis Suite
Sundari Palace

The battle looming outside was lost on the tiny children in their living room. Around the room, foamy blaster bolt ‘darts’ laid in varying array around a central, shivering target.

“No, silly head! You hold the target and I hit it with the blaster!” Adara whinnied, holding up her toy blaster. One by one she pushed in the little foamy darts, sucker cups pointed out.

Reyn Æthelred Mantis Raxis “Ram’ika” to his family peeked over the edge of the target. “But Daaawaaaa you shoot like Baba after too much wiggle djuice. I wanna shoot the gun!”

Stamping her feet, Adara hop, hop, hopped back behind the ‘fall out point’, where Adara and Ram’ika took all the cushions in the house and made a fort.

“You can shoot it later, I has to destwoy the Jetii who tried to make Buir and me dead!” Adara looked up to where Ram’ika held up the target, and winced behind it.

“Then Ram’ika gets to shoot?”

Adara grimaced and readied her finger on the trigger. “Ram’ika gets to shoot.”

What else were a five and three year old set of Mandalorian siblings to do when the Nanny went off to get lunch, and Buir, Baba & [member="Beth Australis-Mantis"] were out of the house?

Pew!
Pew pew!
PEW!

"Owwwiiieeee Dara! No shootie my tumbly!"

"Soooorry Raaaaammiiieeee. Hold the target up more!"

"Baaabaaaaaa!!!"

Sundari Palace - Australis Enclave

The Australis enclave was a small suite of rooms, tiny barracks and armoury, mostly given over to the use of Kaine and his own private business. Within these private rooms dwelt the Cuy'val Dar, when they were onworld. Four small rooms, each to his own, until needed. Kaine did not call upon them unless it was necessary.

The old boar Kaine took his responsibilities seriously. Though he had taken his merry men, and his guns and his fighters and his ships and gone off to chastise the Republic, he had not taken everyone. The assault divisions, and even the vaunted Jare'ramikade had accompanied the Warmaster.

He had left the Cuy'val Dar. His silent, hidden sentinels, to guard his children, and protect them in case the worst should happen. Today, the worst had happened. Mandalore was under heavy attack.

Akita sat alone in his room. He could feel the violence, pulsing through the White Current from here, the death, the anguish. It disturbed him, as it disturbed the current.

Soon.

But it was not close. Here he would stay, close to his vode, silent and hidden, until called for...

"Groundside to wildfire, first-wave ineffective! Repeat first-wave ineffective!"

Reality itself shook as another shell of flak bounced the shuttle off course, throwing Leon forward in his restraints. His blaster banged against his chest armor, thrashing about by its sling while he fumbled to get a grip on it. "Leon! You better stow that weapon or it'll be stowed for you!" The rattle of shellfire almost drowned out his helmet comm, but Leon could just barely make out Sergeant Kathka's voice, "that thing goes off and kills me, I'm coming back to haunt your ass!"

"Yes sir, sorry sir!" Leon blurted out, throwing his arms around the entire weapon and pulling it into a hug

"Keep it together!" The sergeant slammed a heavy hand against Leon's blaster rifle, pushing it into his laminate chest piece, "keep that damn thing pointed down range and keep your head down. No one dies without getting permission, you understand me?"

"Sir, yes sir!" The shuttle thrashed again and Leon tucked into himself, burying his chin in the rifle to keep it from bouncing across the cabin. His stomach was knotting, none of this seemed real. Was it real? It had to be.

"Wildfire - be advised - the first wave was unable to secure LZ, it will be hot. Say again, LZ is hot." The comm chatter between the pilot and the ground buzzed in his ear, each word twisting his stomach harder.

"Sixty-seconds!" the call came out and the cabin was bathed in green light, his restraints clanking as the maglocks disengaged. As scared as he was, his training took over and he instinctively pushed out of the overhead bar and stepped into line and faced the closed ramp with the rest of the landing party. Sergeant Kathka was in front of him, shoulders back and weapon tight to his body like he'd done this a thousand times before.

Then again maybe he had.

"Thirty-seconds!" the two columns of Imperial Marines took a single step back with a dominant foot, everyone bracing for the mad rush out into the battle. "Ten-seconds! Go!" Smoke billowed through the ramp as it opened, blinding him to all but the red flashes of blaster fire. He couldn't tell if it was outgoing, but it didn't matter - he ran forward and prayed he didn't tumble into the sergeant.

Leon fumbled out of the smoke and into a fresh hell. He threw himself behind the crackling husk of a burning AT-ST, pinning himself against the charred head of the mechanical beast - looking just in time to enemy fire bursting black holes into the ground where he had just stood. Where the hell it even coming from? He hadn't had the chance to even look toward the enemy.

"Leon!"

His heart jumped and he spun, peering across a smoking graveyard of a grassland to a pile of wreckage not more than thirty feet from him. Sergeant Kathka was burying himself in the dirt, blaster barking in controlled bursts down range. "Leon, Tracer took a hit off-loading! Grab the painter off his pack!"

What? Was tracer gone? Did he know him? He wasn't sure, he barely knew anyone in this regiment. He looked back towards the empty, charred pit where the shuttle had once been. There, he saw a man in full armor lying in the dirt with a massive fieldpack strapped to his back. His HUD incircled the man with a red marker and alongside it displayed a set of brief information

IM-2780, Alec Tracer, Status: Cardiac Arrest

Leon gulped, fingers wrenching around his rifle. He couldn't do this. He couldn't do this. He peeked around the side of his burning cover. The Mandalorians had erected, in a cliff face of a gulch he now inhabited, a massive set of eight-foot tall walls. Inside, he assumed, was the station he was here to take. "Leon! Stop karking around! We need CAS now!"

The order jumped Leon to his feet. He had to do this. He had to, else everyone here might die. Gritting his teeth, he charged back out into the fire, running for the dead Tracer and his field pack.

Mandalore Orbit - above Mandalore (moving to Keldabe)

"Alor!"

Shia stood and looked at the holographic representation shimmering about her veranda, still only halfway into her beskar'gam.

"I see it. I can read a plot. Time to impact?"

"15 minutes, 30 seconds... mark, alor."

She gritted her teeth. Imperials, so utterly predictable in their willingness to endanger life - civilan or otherwise. But there were no rules in war, after all.

Aunt Vivi's Maxim #31: Only cheaters prosper.

Aunt Vivi's Maxim #13: Do unto others. She'd get to that part.

"Command override Rho-Alpha-Tau, biometric authorisation Kryze, Shia. Initiate self destruct on Shield Station 16. Helm, put us in the impact path. Cease fire on all guns. Cycle both polar stations to encasement mode. All hands, brace for impact."

The Kar'ara'novor Polar shield generators had the exceptional advantage of being able to cycle modes, while the Eyrie couldn't return fire while in mode one, and there was a dangerous window of vulnerability to enemy fire as the shields cycled.

High above, the primary defensive shields shimmered - now offering no protection to incoming fire as they cycled. The psuedo-sun stuttered and died, venting gas out into the void in a controlled shut down as the shields holding it were re-routed, plunging the worldship's tranquil surface into darkness.

Shia slammed her helmet down, but she knew she didn't have time to make it to the shelters if - when - the enemy fleet took advantage of their momentary weakness.

Eyrie issuing self-destruct to the shield sphere and putting itself between the sphere and Keldabe (Next post is in postion / impact).
Eyrie cycling shields to full defensive mode before the sphere impacts, between the cycle and the impact it has no effective shields protecting it's surface. (Rating: Extreme)
Eyrie is ceasing fire (shield mode prevents firing).
Eyrie's fighters deployed in a defensive screen (Rating: Extreme)

The Rebirth [Flagship] (80%/90%) [shield boost]
"Grand Admiral! Planetary defenses are locking on - hundreds of signatures!" A scream from the command pit snapped Lucien's neck towards the readouts

The defenses had finally wisened up, "Redirect power from all turbolasers, focus it into the shields and deploy all Quad-Laser batteries"

Lucien clenched his fists, stormed closer to the readouts and narrowed his eyes on the battlefield. Flashes arched from projection to projection, signifying the intense fire being traded among the fleets. The defense stations, in particular, were now throbbing with a red glow as they redirected their targeting computers onto his ship.

"Lieutenant" He called, his finger jabbing at the bulbous worldcraft he had hoped to lure into a trap, "what is the status of the enemy worldcraft?" The orb of a hologram had shifted drastically, the projection now screaming across the virtual space toward the jagged silhouette of the shield-defense station he'd ordered netted by The Rebirth's tractor beam.

"Grand Admiral, the world craft has picked up speed and- no that can't be right."

"Speak, Lieutenant"

"There shields and weapons have gone offline sir but there is no significant damage to their superstructure"

Curious. The Grand Admiral watched the orb jetting through the void and a slithering grin snuck across his face - just as the first heartbeat of light faded and returned as the shields cycled against enemy fire. "They have taken the bait, Lieutenant. They are redirecting all non-essential power to their shields...they are planning to ram the defense station."

Turning just another flicker sent the lights off and back on, Lucien's hands returned to a neat fold at the small of his back. "Clever, for a savage. The redirection of their defense fire will keep us from maximizing damage to their vessel - but I do not plan on wasting the opportunity. Redirect Hypervelocity fire onto the two nearest Golan stations and order the red alert for the planetary force."

"Red alert? But Grand Admiral, even if the worldcraft impacts the shield station it could take some time to-

The Admiral raised a hand, "We are redirecting the invasion force to the worldcraft, what is the most vulnerable point scans show of the station?"

The Lieutenant's hand raced across the console, "scans show that there is an abyss of some sort at the station's South Pole, lots of machinery - perhaps a construction point leading into the station."

"Perfect. Scramble a squadron of Scimitar Bombers and Interceptors alongside the invasion force - deploy immediately"

Darkness turned to a glowing hell as the defenses around Mandalore spat rings, pillars, and columns of fire towards the Rebrith. Like a rain of brimstone, the fire battered at the shields of the Rebirth sending waves of blue energy rippling throughout the translucent energy field protecting the vessel. Quadlaser fire returned the favor, ripping open the void in a swarm of fire that turned incoming missiles into molten slag that faded into the endless night of space.

Yet, through this chaos, the hangers of the Rebirth began opening their massive jaws. Even as pillars of fire pierced the shields and bored into the artificial surface like a volcanic geyser, the dropships within were not deterred. In a swarm, the one-hundred-meter cylinders of steel ignited and jetted through the thin atmosphere of the Imperial Worldcraft.

Interceptors flanked the vessels, dipping through blaster fire and intercepting any ships on engagement course. The Scimitar Bombers, however, rocketed ahead - their girthy frames beelining for the massive pit on the southern pole of The Eyre.

Ahead of the main assault, the bombers that broke the veil of defensive fire would carpet the shipyards in flame - each of the 12 craft dropping eight incendiary warheads. The carpet of fire would hopefully soften any defenses present and open the wound for the troops to land. After this was done, the bombers would disperse throughout the worldcraft to relinquish themselves of their remaining eight bombs - releasing them into the wilds that encompassed the planetoid.

The Dropships would then traverse as deep as they could into the shipyards, dropping their payload of troopers and armor as deep as they could for the push into the vessel.

"Brace all decks, continue the turn!" Vice Admiral Varz screamed his orders, chest caving into the rail at the head of the bridge. The hull of the Shadow of Regret growled in anger, shields pulsing as the concentrated fire tore through layer after layer of shielding. It didn't take long for the first rounds of turbolaser fire to crack through completely.

At the fore of the craft, an antenna exploded outward, a pillar of molten steel erupting to take its place - beating the shields from the inside as it quickly cooled in the icy grip of space.

"Hull breach on decks one and two!"

"Seal off the affected area, deploy fire suppression systems!" Turning away from the destruction, Varz dug his eyes into the weapons officer, "target the nose of their flagship, maximum firepower!"

The Shadow of Regret finished its pivot, the array of weapon batteries doing a short ballet to bring the bores of their guns on target. In a cascade of light, a combination of turbolaser and Ion fire began to pelt the front of the massive enemy vessel - pinpointing the shots as close as they could to one spot on the frontal shields. As the exchange of fire grew brighter, the enemy craft began deploying their own fighters - the void becoming quickly filled by metal insects in the distance.

The time had come to unleash the plan he had prompted early, "Victory at Myrkr, Battle at Dawn fire your missile payloads into their starfighter swarms - prime to detonate two-hundred meters from their formations. Keep your various warheads separated for maximum dispersal."

He had held his own fighters back for this very reason - by detonating the carbonite and incendiary warheads at that range from the fighters it would create a cloud of fire and ice. The idea was to cover most, if not all, the fighters in a burning gel or in a gripping frost that would stall their engines or eat through their shields and hull with ease. These warheads, after all, were capital ship grade.

"All fighters, reform into attack position and follow the missiles through to targets - keep your distance and redirect ten seconds before detonation."

The orders were no sooner given than carried out, the victories disappearing into a burst of light as their missiles arched through space - the vice admiral tracking the projectiles by the trails of fire they left behind. "Myrkr and Battle at Dawn, target their leftmost Star Destroyer (Vigilant Vornskr), rotational fire. Firebrand, track our target and open rotational fire."

The Vice Admiral gritted his teeth, "on my mark, fire intruder missiles into the nose of their vessel..."

With so much fire being directed into the nose of the enemy flagship, the hope was that a volley of intruder missiles would be able to break it completely. If even a couple of the warhead got through, it had the chance of overloading their reactors and tearing the ship apart - or at least disabling it.

He watched the chaos closely. The explosions in the distance, the clouds of hellish flame and deadly cold and the pounding fire of the ships as they beat away at one another. The Tarkin's Will joined as well, taking aim at The Raging Boar and unleashing its full weaponry on the stern of the craft.

"Mark!" The Admiral shouted and watched as the intruder missiles rocketed through the void - but the enemy fire did not halt.

"Sir! Shields are breaking!" Outside the viewport, fear was struck into the Vice Admirals Heart. With a whole fleet concentrating fire on his shields, more and more began to break down. Pillars of fire shattered the hull, fire erupting across the surface and jetting into space.

"Seal all breached areas! Deploy emergency squads to disperse fire, cut all liquid transport going through damaged decks!"

The fleet came with warning, yet Mand’alor the Infernal was not on Mandalore, when that warning came. Returning from a mission to Wayland, the Hell Wolf and her Wolf Fang fleet growled down upon the marauders central to the Concordian line.

Mand’alor the Infernal needed say nothing to her compatriots, Yalilyr & Mando’ade alike. She merely swerved in her full Beskar’kandar and walked to the shuttle, which would bring them down to Concordia’s surface.

Concordia. Beskar mines and industrial machines were important, yet for the Infernal more important still was the lives of her family. [member="Gray Raxis"] and [member="Baiko no Kaho"] lived on Concordia, with their children, Yasha’s adopted siblings.

“Shia, Aedan, Australis, do any of your fleets require assistance? I am making for the Concordian mines. Don’t let these kriffers break our stuff.” The Infernal trusted her fleeters, and knew they would pull through for Mandalore’s sake.

This meant she could take on the reports of Marines pillaging as they went. The shuttle down was silent, no Dha Werda Verda, no banter.

Nothing but the Hell Wolf of Mandalore rushing full tilt with war hammer raised into the back of the enemy ranks, letting loose a fully lethal charge of arc reactor lightning into the first stormtroopers she saw.

Her Yalilyr & warriors flooded out, bathing the Concordian ground in an utter conflagration of fire.

Lao had told the pilots to hit the DZ hard and fast, like they were going balls deep without a pull out game. Because that was the plan, death before dishonor. Lao could see the fire bombs, or at leas that is what they were called where he was from. They would land soon after that when the Imperials were trying to take the planet. Lao spoke first to the piolits....

"Landing the drop ships is the first priority. Then take out those bombers and every other Imperial ship planetside. Hold nothing back. Kill them all."

Lao chuckled as he opened his mic to his men and spoke....

"Live and die on this day. Mandalorians, are you only a legend that is long dead? Or are you still alive. Or do you remember the promises you have made. To yourself.....To your clan.....To us all. And many years from now, your grandchildren will be asked by there children where there line was on this day. Deeds, not words. For Mandalore!!!"

The pilots had told them the count down to the LZ. He took a deep breath and readed his equipment one last time. And so did the rest of his men. Once the doors to the drop ships, dropped. He felt his sub machine gun hit his shoulder as he smirked as he knew the recoil on this weapon by he was not new to it. The drop ship area erupted into fire and war. They ran forward into hell.

The DZ had been missed by a few meters, so they were in no man's land. And Lao lead his troops forward as he shouted,

"For Mandalore!!"

Lao spoke into his mic to the pilots...

"Hail Odin, drop off the rest of the troops and do a holding pattern until other wise noted."

Lao then turned to the rest of men in No Mens Land and spoke a single phrase over an open and hot as ever mic..

"FOR MANDALORE!!!"

Ya, he had lost a few men. Ya, he wasn't perfect. Ya, he wasn't tall enough or had the correct time. But he did not stop. He did not stop going forward. For his Ancestors. For them all. For Mandalore. Lao with his armor, with his weapons, with his men pointed in the correct direction till the end of time. Toward the enemy.

Lao readied his weapon and then took that turn from the cover he had out into the open with his Mandalorians charging forward, until dawn.
