A mind is a terrible thing to waste

[member="Darth Venefica"]

The Acolyte sat, deep in his meditations, legs crossed under him. In this moment, he was but a conduit of the greater Force. He felt as if he were timeless, both nothing and everything. Truly, the Force was eternal and great. He pitied those who would never know.

It seemed these days she was the most sought after Sith to train the Acolytes be it through a one on one session or one of them seeking a Master. She never fancied herself a people person but one could never understand how they look through the eyes of another. She didn't mind helping those that wanted it, a strong Sith Order is a strong Sith Order. Besides, so many had been lost in the past six years do to invasions, bounty hunters, and the various dangers in the galaxy. Then there's the disappearances. More gone.

The Acolyte she decided to aid this time was not unknown to her. She had took time to teach him the fundamentals of Makashi and was pleased to see how well he learned it. This time around it will be different, he wished to unlock the mystery of Telepathy. Force powers could prove to be more difficult to understand, but like lightsaber forms it required both practice and dedication.

"And here we are again," she spoke as she entered the chamber, "Telepathy is what you are seeking to learn. It is a very resourceful power to communicate with another while hiding your conversations from prying ears. Are you ready, Acolyte Amaethon?"

Amaethon could feel the Dark Side presence of [member="Darth Venefica"] as the Vahl had made no attempt at cloaking herself. He stood as she entered the meditation room and tilted his head, his habit when considering something.

With a bow, he replied "I am, my Lord."

Soon, he would learn to speak in a voice that could not be ruined by the blade of a knife.

With little to no effort on her part, she slipped into the mind of the Acolyte. She always felt comfortable and at home tearing memories from the mind's of others. And when she was really bored, planting visions of horror and suffering in place of those pleasant memories, or simply twisting them into nightmares. She took great pleasure in feasting off minds; inhaling and devouring every little last tid bit until her hunger sated. But this was not the case now. The Acolyte's mind and all his hidden fantasies was his to keep.

Through the Force she connected invisible lines from her mind to his, focusing on strengthening the connection. Satisfied with the end result, she whispered into his mind. "The most important aspect to remember is the strength of the connection. A loose connection and the conversation will be in pieces." She exited his mind for the time being.

"At this stage," she began, "The distance will be limited. A line of sight will be required. However, the stronger this ability becomes the greater the distance and a line of sight will no longer be required." She raised her right index finger to stress the next pointe. "And the more you communicate with another via a mental link...the easier it will become. In other words, there will be no effort for either party."

She lowered her mental defenses slightly so the Acolyte can repeat what she has done. "Dealing with the mind of both others and yourself takes considerable amount of focus. So...relax your mind...block out all distractions. When you are ready, use the Force and concentrate or picture yourself entering our mind. Link them together...and speak."

Amaethon took in this knowledge silently, focusing deeply on the meanings both obvious and hidden. Truth within lies within truth. The Dark Side was convoluted. The greater Force made the Dark Side seem a tiny bog next to it's murky oceanic depths.

It was most unsettling, having her effortlessly penetrate his mind. He could feel her as if she had physically made contact. He had the sense that Venefica might just as easily rip out his deepest hidden fears and secrets. It made him feel a sort of primal terror which he ruthlessly suppressed.

He focused on her words, allowing the Force to extend outwards at first. It took him several minutes to shut out errant thoughts and emotions before he could proceed. It took several more before he could relax sufficiently for the purposes of this exercise. Finally, he felt himself cross through a barrier he could almost feel, like a microscopic organism pushing through a cellular membrane.

Inside her mind she could the slight presence of the Acolyte, but the link had not been fully connected. She could feel his repeated attempts to to meld their minds together and she was pleased. Most would have given up and gave some excuse as to why they couldn't accomplish the task. She despised those people. Failure should never be feared even though she was aware some of the other Master's punished their Acolytes for failing. Darth Venefica didn't punish but rewarded. It was through failure that one would strive harder to find success.
Another attempt on his part was made and this time he had drawn closer to forming a link. She remained quiet allowing him to work. At last, she felt the connection and smiled. She was not sure he was aware that he had done it, so she nodded her head for him to speak to her through their link.

'I am...free to speak as I wish, here,' he projected 'My voice is strong.'

Unlike the raspy whisper he physically spoke in, the voice of his mind was smooth and rich. It was full of confidence, full of self assurance. Now, he could speak volumes or not at all as he chose to. With time, this might lead to even greater things such as forcing his will on the minds of others.

'The mind is the most deadly weapon of all.'

He laughed, a gurgling noise from his ruined throat and he did not care.

"Well done, Acolyte," she said pleased. "Once a permanent link has been established with another...you will find no difficulty speaking with them. Though we advise that you do not try and attempt to invade the mind's of others for the sake of conversation. They may take it as a threat."
She placed her hands on her hips thinking for a moment. Perhaps he should seek out others here in the Temple to communicate with. A lesson, yes. She knew he could easily defend himself for he had proven he was more than capable of this.
"We've changed our minds, Acolyte. Go through the temple and try to link your mind to others. Practice makes perfect."

'I shall make a point of it, my Lord,' he sent.

Rising to his feet, he bowed to [member="Darth Venefica"] and sent 'With your permission, I will withdraw and set about...practice.'

He smiled beneath his mask, pleased for once.
