Rusty
Purveyor of Fine Weaponry
So I've had some time off, though admittedly not as much as I was planning. What can I say? I have a problem.
At any rate, an old friend has enticed me to make a limited return, and the time off has given me a chance to consider the character and the direction I want to take him.
Most of you know Rusty as the antisocial Shard who probably made you a gun at some point. I plan on continuing to make high quality custom weapons and armor for anyone with the imagination and the credits to back it up, but I find myself at something of a crossroads as far as RP is concerned.
I've taken pains to keep Rusty aloof from the drama of the major factions. And by and large, that decision has been vindicated by my experience with other characters, because y'all mofos need Jesus. Or Cheezits. Or something. Maybe a 5 pound bag of weed delivered weekly to the FOs and FAs.
That's largely why I decided to take a break in the first place. When the first instinct every morning upon logging in is to stand on the nearest rooftop and shout "It's a game, not a dick; don't take it so hard!", something's gotta give. Once things got to that point, it was time to take my own advice and step away.
Now, I'm not as dumb as I look, or else I'd not be able to chew bubble gum and walk at the same time. I realize that's cost me RP, both in terms of quality and quantity. The fact is, quality RP is strongly linked to the map game and the factions that play it. They by no means have a monopoly on it, but that's generally one of the most reliable ways to meet new people, even if fully half of them are likely going to hate you by the end of the thing.
I'm not saying I'm gonna saddle up my robopony and ride off to join a faction, but I am considering getting Rusty involved on a broader scale. There's room for businesses to make an impact, and I'm confident I can get RCFC in there and swinging elbows. What I'm not sure is whether or not it's worth it.
That's where you guys come in.
I'm not asking for advice on whether or not I should do it. I'll come to that conclusion on my own. What I'm asking for is real, honest feedback on both Rusty the character and myself as a writer.
I'm not asking you to blow smoke up my ass. If you think I'm a low down dirty son of a queen, lemme know. I'd prefer it if you said so in a constructive manner, but that's vital intel. If there's something I do well that you appreciate, that's helpful too. Every little bit helps me figure out where I stand.
I and a hundred others have said it many, many times: you live and die by your reputation on Chaos. I can spout off all day about how I don't care about what others think, but when it's all said and done, it matters. You matter. I am beholden to what you think of me as much as you are beholden to what I think of you, and anyone who tries to convince you otherwise is either so full of crap that their eyeballs are floating or so high up their ivory tower they've forgotten what it's like to have to carve out a niche for themselves.
If I'm going to progress on Chaos, both as the character Rusty and a writer, I need to know where I stand. It's that simple. So if you guys could find it in your hearts or shriveled approximations thereof to take a few minutes to drop some truth, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks much,
Rusty.
