Populate of Cantonica

Aim: There are more dark forces at play in the Tingel arm, a culture of crime and corruption where even pirates feel safe. This undermines the hard work to stabilise society there. In a bold move the Ashlans plan on taking control of Cantonica and moving a step closer to routing out corruption.

On Cantonica the authorities were in disarray, the chief of police looked out over the enormous hole left where the gigantic casino had been wrenched from the ground and taken away by pirates. It wasn't some neat scoop that you might get in the movies though. Water flooded in some sections from burst water mains, other sections were on fire due to a burst gas main and their were secondary fires breaking out in the area nearly half a mile further down the main gas line.

It wasn't just here either that carnage had been wrought, five miles away a police interceptor had been shot down and crashed into a wealthy district, others had gone down elsewhere, but it was the wealthy that were causing the most headache, this could cost his department a years funding in lawsuits. He had to hand it to the pirates, they were ballsy pulling this off, but why on his turf. One businessman was even blaming the police because a falling outbuilding destroyed his stockhouse? He stubbed out his cigarette, he wouldn't usually openly smoke, but with reports coming in of looters in the streets and over 200 dead, Kark it, he needed to get through the day.

A detective walked up to him with a concerned look on his face, he handed the Chief a data pad and pointed out the holomessage contained on it. It was the Ashlans, their fleet was in orbit and they were ready to provide law enforcement and any assistance needed. Looking up, the Chief could swear he saw a triangular shape of a large ship hundreds of kilometers up in orbit. Kark again, this was the last thing he needed, and he lit another cigarette.

Objective 1 - Restore Order

The Ashlan Crusade was expanding at a great rate and absorbing more and more systems and all this time, Cantonica, at the armpit of the Tingel arm was a refuge for the wealthy and powerful, but also criminal elements that would exploit their lands and those of the greater Tingel space.

There was little obvious link to the Sith there, so it was hard to justify the expense of an invasion to capture the planet, and it was a peaceful world, unecessary invasion would be widely unpopular. But now, with a major attack from pirates, throwing the capital into complete dissaray, the Ashlans could come in as the level headed restorers of order. They would handle it delicately of course, and Cantonica, like all Ashlan worlds, would retain most of its autonomy. But taxation moving to the Crusade would prove extremely valuable, as would a continued security presence on the world.

After the actions on both Mirial and Tiss'Sharl, it was already clear to the Ashlans that the pirates were getting bolder, in one swoop they could send a message that piracy was not acceptable in or around the Ashlan sphere.

Objective 2 - Sever the link

The planet was corrupt, everybody knew that, but some sections of its society were more so than others. There was a group on the world, so underhanded that they had traded against their own planet. It was them that sold the information to the pirates that planned the Casino heist and they continued to funnel stolen hardware and information to both pirates, and more troublingly, the Bogan.

The Cantonica authorities are actually in agreement that this gang needs to e stopped as the Casino theft put a big hole in the pockets of their wealthy 'donors' but they are hesitant to act excuse you can never tell who is being paid off by who on a world like that. The Ashlans can come in and be the heroes, and if it goes wrong, the authorities don't have to worry about repercussions, what have they got to lose?

Objective 3 - Space Vegas

Cantonica is a corrupt, but awfully fun place to visit, enjoy.

Isla sat on the shuttle just about to depart for the surface. The Divine Purpose had arrived in orbit of Cantonica leading a fleet that almost looked like a war fleet, pirate and criminal vessels had scattered like rats on their arrival, it was almost pretty, the number of ships suddenly jumping to hyperspace. She wondered how many wealthy criminals has been abandoned by their crews and we now planet-side with their pants down.

The Ashlans were acting quickly, Isla's monitoring of the pirate known as Cass Gemini had tipped her off to some sort of action on Cantonica, but the audacious scale of the attack shocked her, there was a great scar in the middle of the city and their were so many casualties. Maybe Heinrich's assessment that the woman played with the dark side was more accurate than Isla cared to admit.

However, the Ashlans were not here to chase a pirate, not that one at least. Cantonica was a problem, the crime it funded was a problem and the Ashlans had chosen this moment to be part of the solution. She had contacted the leaders of the world and had offered assistance, there was little resistance as they knew the Ashlans were coming anyway, and this allowed them to save face, better be the welcoming host and keep your wealth than try to resist and be replaced by a puppet leader. The politicians were also very wary that were things to go south, being able to pin the war on crime on the invaders, would protect them from the crime lords.

Isla would not be taking any chances though, she would be arriving to the parliament building at the head of a column of Sister's of Ashla and a squad of the Praetorian Bodyguard droids. She herself eschewed full armour and wore her traditional Admirals garb, but with a Viper suit underneath. There were other Ashlan officials in her party who may wish to speak but Isla planned on this being her victory, she had someone that she too wished to send a message too.

Heinrich didn't care much for gambling. He found it to be a rather pointless endeavor; a cheap thrill for cheap purposes. As such, the loss of the casino was of little consequence to him. Despite this, he would find himself attempting to help stabilize the situation on Cantonica. The economy of the planet had been largely driven by such frivolous activities, and though his distaste for such activities was strong, Heinrich was nothing if not a pragmatist.

The crusader's foot uncontrollably tapped as he stood in place, waiting for the other officials to arrive. He had come to the planet ahead of the main Ashlan force, largely to establish connection with the local authorities in an effort to cull any potentially volatile thoughts among the populace. Seeing an Ashlan fleet appear in orbit would have likely put some of the locals in a state of unease, and he wished to ensure that the Crusade was welcome upon their arrival.

He looked toward the skies as the fleet came into orbit, their majestic ships taking their place among the skies of Cantonica. Heinrich reflected on how much their movement had grown; the once small band of devoted followers had begun to expand into much, much more. In the grand scheme of it all, he found himself pondering the implications of their movement, taking into account the various states of the planets that had fallen under their control. So many different ideas, cultures, systems of government... all of them would fall under the Crusade's rule in time. As the infrastructure of their government grew, so to would the varying opinions of those therein. He thought to himself... to what extent would they impose their rule upon each planet?

The thoughts moved away from the forefront of his mind as he realized that the Grand Admiral would be arriving soon. Heinrich got his head back to the present, and sent a transmission to the Grand Admiral.

<<This is Grand Marshal Faust. Any sign of the pirates?>>

His conversation with Isla about the pirate Cass Gemini, though productive, had left him feeling concerned for his companion. Though Heinrich trusted Isla completely, he knew that there would be potential for things to get tricky. In the end, he simply hoped that it wouldn't become an issue today. Should the pirates truly abandon the planet, then the possibility for smooth negotiations would greatly increase. The real question, however, is how the planetary government would respond.

The life of a Juror was one of solace, duty, and faith. It was to seek out the Bogan, wherever it reared its ugly head. What it was not, was to act as a police force within the scope of the common people. Yet, here Vaxis found himself, tracking down corrupt individuals that had lined their pockets at the expense of the innocent for too long. It wasn't that he disliked bringing justice to the guilty; it was a large part of why he became a Juror in the first place. No, Vaxis simply found that such tasks were below his abilities. At the end of the day, Vaxis sought the challenge of the fight. He would often find himself excited at the prospect of a proper duel. Perhaps it was simply his Nagai nature, perhaps it was him subtly trying to feed his ego. Whatever it was, Vaxis would have to put it on hold for now.

He walked the streets near the former location of the casino, eyeing the gawking populace as they overlooked the operations of the local authorities. They weren't aware of his association with the Crusade, as he made sure to keep his presence relatively unknown. He hoped to keep it that way, as he preferred to get the drop on his quarry whenever possible. Nevertheless, there was no telling how successful he would be in that endeavor. The only thing that was certain was that he would find his target.

He reached for his commlink, sending a transmission to his former apprentice.

<<I have a lead on the target. Have you touched down?>>

Vaxis had arrived at the planet a few days ago, attempting to gather information on one particularly corrupt individual that had made the casino a regular getaway. He was a Falleen, one that claimed to have connections to various crime syndicates, though Vaxis suspected that it was simply another lie that the nefarious grifter had crafted to line his pockets further. Even if the man didn't have such connections, he had certainly made enough money at the expense of the innocent to garner the attention of the Crusade. As such, Vaxis would take great care in bringing him to justice.

The ship thundered through the atmosphere towards the rendezvous on the groups and Isla was sat calmly waiting for her arrival when her comm pinged and the reassuring voice of Heinrich Faust Heinrich Faust Came though.

<<This is Grand Marshal Faust. Any sign of the pirates?>>
"This is Draellix, it is good to hear your voice. There are no signs of any of the ships registered to the wanted pirates. It appears they have left the system with their stolen property. We have managed to detain a dozen other wanted ships before they managed to leave the system." The mass flight from the system was frustrating but inevitable. The deployment of Interdiction feilds at such a busy civilian hyperspace jump point would be reckless and risk collisions.

"You should be able to see my Knave on route now, I am about twenty kilometres to your north west and will be landing shortly."

A few minutes later, the shuttle slowed down and landed on its designated point not far from Heinrich's position. Isla dismounted the shuttle and made her way to the front of the honour guard that marched evenly in step behind her. Seeing her Sister's in formation like this swelled her with pride and filled her with the confidence of the Ashlan Crusade. It was a further few minutes before she arrives at Heinrich, he looked anxious to get underway.

"Grand Marshall Faust, it is wonderful to see you here, I hope your early negotiations have gone well. I have given orders to deploy humanitarian and law enforcement resources at all of the high risk areas." The politicians had allowed their arrival and supported the Ashlan's offer of assistance, but the Ashlan's needed to move quickly to get their talons into the wheels of control before the government changed their mind or realised that this change in management would last longer than the immediate aftermath of the attack.

"So you thought you could get away?" the Teyrn threw the man to the ground. The sand cushioned the frail man's fall, not that it made a difference. Ronan would not waste time on this one.

"Do you... do you know who I am?!" the man outraged vocally, though physically he recoiled from the fall, and his body subtly cowered against his will, a true sign of his weakness.

"If I didn't know who you were I wouldn't have tracked you here, Darth."

"I... I know who you are. Did they not used to call you the same thing, Darth Leonis?" the Sith smiled at the realization of who he was dealing with, as if it gave him the upper hand in the confrontation. It didn't. The Sith had no means of escaping the Teyrn, not when the landspeeder wreck Ronan had wrenched him from still roared in a blaze nearby, overturned, its metal reflecting the glint of the searing sunshine that bathed the empty desert that surrounded them.

The Sith's face turned flush red, though Ronan couldn't tell if it was his pale skin burning or yet another involuntary sign of the man's weakness.

"Key words: used to." Ronan ignited his purple saber, striking fear into the man who had struck fear into so many before. It was time for retribution, and they both knew it. Still the Sith tried to squirm his way out, unaware that he'd hit the wall, the end of the line.

"Wh.. why me? Has the Sith Empire not suffered enough?" there was a slight beg in the withered old Sith's voice, one Ronan would not indulge.

"You don't really believe those words, weasel. And that's why I'm going to end your miserable life. I will spare you a speech. Pray that Ashla is kind in the next life"

"I would spit on you if my mouth were not so dry." the downed man snarled indignantly, right before Ronan plunged his saber through the man's heart, without a word.

That was only the beginning. There were more Sith out there, more depraved then the one he'd just killed. For now Cantonica harboured no other Sith that he knew of. Nobody on his list at least. Ever since his return to the Light of Ashla, he'd made it his mission to take down his former accomplices in of the Sith Empire, or anyone close to them. This one had been an alchemist, a depraved sorcerer. There were many like him on the list, and the hunt had only just begun.

Greer walked down the crowded street of Canto Bight eating some spiced meat wrapped in grilled bread. She enjoyed street food, it was a little rough round the edges, but full of flavour, a bit like her. The meat and spiced sauce oozed out on to her chin as she devoured it. She thought she should probably wipe up before she arrived.

The house she was visiting was on the next street, they were hiding in plain sight. The ground floor was a small private high stakes casino and the upper floors a hotel come business space. There was no need to hide in a den of thieves like this place. As much as Greer respected local customs, she would be glad to see the Ashlans come in and protect the average citizen from these parasites. She had jumped at the chance of being the Ashlan enforcer to being them to justice, part of her wished they would put up a fight and make it easier for her. But that was not the Ashlan way and it had raised a few eyebrows amongst the other Jedi.

Finishing her wrap she licked her fingers then checked her make up in a shop window, if she was going to be in a fight, there was no sense taunting her ancestors by having her makeup out of place. She smiled as she saw her face, she was finally getting over Wgah'ngal and her face looking back at her was her own again. As she touched her makeup she suddenly caught sight of a young girl on the other side of the glass pulling faces at her and she laughed before sticking her tongue back out at the girl.

It was another 5 minutes walk to the building and she knocked on the door. A slider opened and eyes looked out at her "You have an invitation?"

"I don't need an invitation, I am a guest of Clarence, I can come right in" she said to the man, reaching in to the force.

"yes, you karking do!, now frak off!" The voice came back angrily, sliding the shutter closed again.

Oh well, though Greer, can't win them all, and she disappeared into the side alley to formulate another plan.
