Private A New Future in the Making

lab-1.jpg

A new subject has recently been brought into the laboratory that I have housed away from the capital of New Cov. Sahan Dragr Sahan Dragr had brought him in for us and his efforts had brought him a tidy sum which was paid straight away.

With the help of Lord Reficite Lord Reficite ; my associate Dr. Quince Lorien and I have been making strides in curing Force Wizards of their ailments. It is my belief that Force Wizards were brought into being long ago by scientists looking to create the ultimate super soldiers. However such an experiment had run wild. Many centuries of conflict had unfortunately been the result of the Force Wizards multiplying unchecked.

So now we hold an experiment made to be sure that Force Wizards assume the role that they were created for. Nothing more and nothing less.

Laying strapped on a slab in front of me is Rann Thress Rann Thress . From what I can see he is unconscious, however I know that that will not last. I do not feel threatened by him as the straps bind him well. It all depends on his strength. Ysalamir are also in attendence just in case he tries to use his powers to aid himself.

I study his physique and fully believe in Mr. Dragr's words of caution; he does look strong indeed.

A few flickers of movement cause me to turn my focus to the subject's face, for it is my guess that he will soon wake up. I keep my posture poised and straight while my chin is tilted downwards while I look at him. I interlock my fingers in front of me and patiently wait for the inevitable.

Searing pain spread across his forehead as Rann began to return to life, awakening ever so agonizingly slowly. He opened his eyes and quickly shut them again as the pristine nature of a medical room and bright operating lights met his pupils immediately. After a few moments, he blinked his eyes and turned to look at the figure he could feel next to him. Some doctor type, he imagined. He looked down and saw the straps that bound him, and felt how they dulled his connection to the Force. With a sigh, he lay his head back down on the table in resignation.

"Well, this isn't the local community hospital, I'm guessing." he asked, turning his head towards the figure. "I'm not dead, which is actually kind of surprising. I thought for sure that Mandalorian would have killed me. But you want me alive." He said, then turned his head around to observe his surroundings, confirming what he thought. "Medical equipment, nice clean sanitized room. People on terminals clicking away. And...." He looked around again, gaging his location in the room.

"Me, dead center. I feel so special. Why?"
He turned back towards the figure, awaiting the response.

I watch as he wakes up. It does not take him long to realize that he is not only bound, but perhaps also blocked from being able to perform the acts of sorcery that space wizards like himself are known to do.

"If he had killed you, he would not have been paid. The Mandalorian did very well." And he was rewarded handsomely for it. I find it rather comforting that there are others like-minded; who see that there is a new path that needs to be taken if there was to be less wars waged throughout the Galaxy.

I lift my head and turn my gaze towards Dr. Lorien. His own focus is on the datapad he holds until he notices my gaze and gives me a silent nod. I then return my attention to the patient in front of me. "You are indeed very special. In fact you are the first of what will be a solution to the Galaxy's woes. It is time to correct a mistake made many centuries ago." I lean a little closer to him as I quieten my voice. "You can feel it, can you not? The barrier blocking your magical abilities. How does it make you feel?" I am curious to know his answer. Yet even before I finished asking my question; a number of possible answers played out in my mind. Whatever he responds with, it will give me and Dr. Lorien information that we can use.

“The Galaxy’s woes? Woooow.” Rann said with a chuckle, “I mean I’ve had delusions of grandeur before, but even I’d never consider me that special.”

He looked down again at the bonds that held him down, feeling cut off from accessing the Living Force, but still aware of its presence. It was nerve wracking, to say the least, but Rann steeled himself.

“Honestly? It feels quiet. Something you’d never notice if you never lost it.” He said, laying his head back down and looking at the Doctor. “Nothing I’ve never felt before. That Mandalorian ( Sahan Dragr Sahan Dragr ) used similar tricks.” He shrugged, “do what you have to do to win. I respect it.”

He looked around again, then stopped, looking at the ceiling and furrowing his brow in thought, “hmm.” He pondered for a moment more before continuing, “You’re gonna poke me with stuff, aren’t you?” Rann asked, looking for surgical equipment.

An end to the Galaxy’s woes? he thought to himself.

“Let me just go ahead and take a shot in the dark here. This mistake you mention…well, I wasn’t alive a hundred years ago let alone several, so it’s nothing about me specifically.” He again pondered his placement in the room, and looked around at the many lab coats in the room and although he couldn’t know for sure if they felt the Force or not, he had a good guess they were as muted as he was.

“It won’t work.”
He said, finally after several minutes of contemplative silence. “It never does. Not for long.”

“I don’t see a point in lying to you. I’m here and I’m not going anywhere, clearly.”
He shook his bonds to emphasize, “The Galaxy’s woes. Force Users. Hmph.” He chuckled, “For what it’s worth I agree with you, funnily enough. The Sith are evidence of that enough by themselves not even including the Jedi. Although…”

Rann had wondered when he was younger if the Galaxy would be better off without Force Users. It was even a short lived aspiration of his to kill them all, and then himself. Not that that would solve anything. Even if every bloodline was purged, every one who felt the force enough to make a difference. Even if. The Force would show itself again in someone else. Several someone else’s, and a hundred years from now, maybe two, probably less, we’d be right back where we were.

I watched and listened as his answer went from cockiness to false resignation to one catering to offer up advice. And he is right in some respect in that whatever we accomplish may be short lived.

But at least it is a start. If nothing is done, then nothing would be accomplished at all.

"You will be poked and prodded, yes. This is a laboratory, afterall. You will go through a variety of tests before you may be released from here." The more positive the results, the more that he may be rewarded. I do not lie when I admit that he may be released. Afterall, lying is not becoming of a lady. Yet I know that his time spent here will be quite interesting for me.

"I think that before everything gets started I do believe that any known allergies should be stated. Afterall, you are no good to us dead." And there is little doubt in my mind that he will be taken care of. Starving him and making him physically weak would do us no good.

Normally I would of requested an introduction, however Dr. Lorien had told me not to get too personable with the subjects. And given that he runs this lab, I feel obligated to follow his wishes.

Given time he will have his own quarters as well. But once again it all depends on how the testing goes. The man appears to be a fine speciman and so I have a hunch that things shall progress well.

Rann looked at the doctor, unsurprised at her answer. "Fair," he responded. "When I was a kid they gave me sweets after every appointment. Probably...probably not gonna happen here huh?" He asked, trying to make light of the situation.

"No known allergies," he answered truthfully. "I'm no good to you period, but-" He shrugged "The sooner you start the sooner I leave. Let's get to it, I guess."
