A New General Rule & A Map Update

I'm not sure what to think about the new rule. I think it's a good thing people can't walk up to your character in a thread and shoot them, but in a battle, everything's uncertain. Would a writer choosing to enter their character in battle (against another writer, obviously) count as "permission" for said character to be killed in combat? I mean this for things such as Invasions and Skirmishes.

Just my two cents. :) But keep up the amazing work, Tef! Can't please everyone. :p

What about creating a situation in which the opponent's own actions put them into a situation that your actions make it impossible to survive... though you don't actually kill them. Like, they lock themselves in an airlock and then you simply push the button to open that airlock to space?

There are countless situations where doing anything but doing the logicial action that would cause another character's death would make no sense at all.

You're talking about destroying something that someone has put a good deal of effort into creating and roleplaying as.

This is all still for fun, if you just wipe their character out, just think about if the tables were turned.
Would you be happy if Akio was suddenly struck down? Or any of your characters? Regardless of whether you think you would or would not fall into such a situation.

I'm beginning to wonder if some of you aren't getting wrapped up in yourselves and have forgotten what post-by-post role-playing is.

From the wiki, located at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Play-by-post_role-playing_game

Players create their own characters and descriptions of events and their surroundings during play. Results of combat, which may include Player versus player encounters, may be determined by chance through dice rolls or software designed to provide a random result. The results of random chance may need to be provided to the players in order to avoid disputes that may be a result of cheating or favoritism. Alternatively a forum may be diceless and rely on cooperation between players to agree on outcomes of events and thus forgo the use of randomisers.
Since it's on wikipedia, it must be true, therefore we shall continue to abide by the spirit of post-by-post role-playing and cease our barbaric ways of trying to force player deaths.

@[member="Tefka"], by walking into the Water Cooler forum and certain doom, you've forfeited the right to complain when this happens.

Its one thing to just write yourself as killing someone, its quite another for a person to essentially write themselves into having a gun pressed against their head and then being angry when the other person pulls the trigger. That's all I'm saying. And no I'm not saying the person pulling the trigger has the right to go "I pull the trigger killing so-and-so."

I'm not trapped in here with you.

You're trapped in here with me.

I get what you're saying @[member="Akio Kahoshi"], and I understand where you're coming from. Is it illogical? Sure. Is it silly to have to enforce this? You betcha. But we're only instituting rules because people can't cooperate.

Stop resisting and start cooperating, and we'll stop tazing you.
