A Quest For Two (Valkren)

Seriously? It had only taken SARI five seconds to figure out why Valkren was sleeping through his alarm. His last location had been in the station's bar. He'd been there for five hours last night! No wonder he didn't answer her when she greeted him on his way back inside. With everything she'd been busy with lately she'd made time to visit with him, but he was still going out and getting drunk.
Since she was integrated with the station's systems upon arrival, SARI was able to travel through the circuitry of the entire complex. This allowed her to reach the alarm on Valkren's holo-clock and boost it's signal. What had started out as a soft beeping had suddenly become a shrill blaring noise that could wake even the dead.

The golden wheat swayed gently as the sergeant moved his gloved hands along them. He was confused at why he had his armor on, the commando walking slowly among the enormous fields. It was so peaceful here, even being clad in his blue and white heavy-assault armor. Yet he still did not have the reason for why he was in this place. It seemed he was walking for hours on end, with no signs of other life..Until he saw it.

Matthew?

Valkren was staring at the bloodied and gruesome face of his own older brother, Matthew Calderon. He was also clad in his own commando armaments, with only the red detailing to make the difference between the two soldiers. "Matt? What are you..How?"

In an instant, his own flesh and blood lifted a blaster from the disguise of the golden shrine around them, training it on Valkren. "TRAITOR." The words screeched like nails against a chalkboard, causing the sergeant to cover his ears in pain. A round went off, the bolt slamming into his chest soon after Matthew pulling the trigger. As Calderon felt the burning sensation travel from behind his chestpiece to all of his limbs...He woke up.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sergeant Valkren Calderon woke up in a panic, suddenly yelling out the word "NO!" as he sat up, drenched in sweat. The word that his brother had said was now the screech of the alarm clock that was directly by his head. The commando rolled off of his flat, landing directly on his stomach.

"I'm up.." He stated, actually at a loss for words at the moment.

SARI was startled by Valkren's sudden scream. She immediately shut the alarm off as he rolled onto the floor.
"Valkren? Are you alright?"
Her small blue form appeared on the console nearest to him, looking down at him with concern.

Valkren moved himself so he was sitting straight up on his rear end, bringing his hands up to meet his heavy eyes. "I'm fine, SARI..Thank you for the wake up call though." The commando stated as he stood up half naked, scanning around the station's small quarters to find his own clothing. In a hungover and desperate attempt, he'd only be able to discover where his pants from the previous night were located at. His upper body on display, he'd walk over to the console that SARI emulated from and slumped into the chair that was before it.

"What time is it, SARI?" He asked, rubbing his temples slowly as he rocked back and forth in the office-like chair.

"Eleven o'clock in the morning. I figured you'd be up by now, so I didn't think to check your room again. But when one of the other officers started asking where you were, I thought something might be wrong."
SARI crossed her arms.
"Little did I know that you'd been out drinking all night."
[member="Valkren Calderon"]

"Something wrong, with me?" The sergeant chuckled momentarily before taking his hands from his temples to make them into a bowl-like formation over his mouth, capturing a cough as it interrupted his laugh. "Please, you of all people should know i'm invincible.." He stated, smiling as he ceased rocking in the chair before SARI.

"So, what's on the schedule for today?" He asked his companion, opening his own icy blue hues to attempt to meet her own illuminating eyes.

SARI shook her head, but grinned.
"Lunch is in an hour in the cafeteria in the East Wing. At two o'clock, you've got a meeting with Admiral Torus to talk about flight plans and a few missions she's picked out for you. Then at five, you're supposed to be meeting up with a few new recruits and showing them the ropes. After that, you're free."
Her expression turned to one of slight concern as she looked at Valkren.
"Please don't spend another night in the bar..."

Valkren pushed himself away from the console, his office-style chair rolling across the small quarters as he searched for a shirt. "Skipping lunch again it looks like, better to be early to Admiral Torus's anyways." After stating his decision, he stood up from the chair and leaned over to search through a pile of dirty and clean clothes that were scattered around the room. Finding a tight republic military tee, he turned back to SARI, dressing as he spoke.

"Someone sounds like they don't think I can handle my alcohol?" The sergeant said this as he pulled the tight-fitting shirt over his head, so he didn't register the level of concern that she actually had for him until he finished dressing and actually got a look at SARI. "I'll ease back on it a tiny bit."

[member="SARI"]

"Valk..."
SARI gave him a serious look.
"This hasn't just been a couple of nights when you've dragged yourself back here drunk beyond recognition. It's been happening for weeks."
She could tell that something was wrong. But she'd never tried to ask him about it before. Until now.
"There's something on your mind.... isn't there? You can tell me, you know."
[member="Valkren Calderon"]

Valkren frowned for a moment, thoughts racing through his head as one decision weighed onto another. Was it that obvious that something was wrong? He didn't need to be showing these emotions, at all. If any of his team caught wind of what was happening to him mentally then they'd begin to fall apart as well. Was she really that close to him? That she could see through his ruse?

The sergeant smiled and shook his head, looking around for his leather coat. "Maybe another time..We've got work to get to, right?"

He lifted up a brownish-leather coat that had the Republic Commando ribbon stitched into the right arm. After finally getting dressed, he walked toward the console once more and looking down to an illuminating [member="SARI"], "Another time, when you've bought me a drink."

SARI wasn't going to budge so easily. She stared up at him, crossing her arms again and giving him a stern look.
"You won't be buying anything alcohol or drug-related until this gets cleared up. Just telling you now."
It barely took her half a second to lock Valkren's credit accounts. She'd be able to track his attempted purchases so that he didn't try anything. It might have seemed domineering, but she didn't want him to keep drowning himself. She hadn't some all the way from Dantooine to deal with more drunken idiots. Besides, it wasn't difficult for her to figure out when he was faking a smile. She'd learned how to study people a long time ago. She knew that there was something wrong with him, even if he refused to admit it now.

Valkren cocked a brow, that oddly cute yet curious look resting upon his face as he blinked at SARI. "We'll see about that." He had no idea what had just been done to his accounts, he figured that after these next few meetings he'd just go out again and spend his night at the station bar once more. Drinking courtesy of the Republic defense force and military alike! He'd just have to wait and find out.

The same 'smile' also rested upon his face as he turned to pick up a small datapad. He wasn't one for carrying around technological devices while off-duty, even while being a splicer. He simply did it nowadays' so SARI could communicate with him while he was on the move if she pleased. Since he didn't wear any of his armor while off duty, there was no way she could sit inside his helmet and pick away at his brain and every motion that he made. "So, meet you at the Admiral's office? Or do you want to tag along for the walk?"

[member="SARI"]

SARI's form vanished. She was linked to the datapad in seconds. It didn't have a projector, but she could still speak through it.
"I think we both know the answer to that,"
She replied.
[member="Valkren Calderon"]

Valkren smiled and nodded as he walked out of the door, hooking the datapad to his utility belt. They'd pass multitudes of marines and engineers alike, running about and doing odd jobs around the station. The sergeant would nod when younger men and women would unknowingly salute him like he wasn't an NCO. Other NCO's hated being saluted, since they weren't technically supposed to be. He didn't mind it, he kinda liked it infact.

"How is the Admiral this morning? In the usual mood?"

[member="SARI"]

"If by usual you mean cranky and demanding Corellian Marth Coffee, then yes. She's also been playing darts from what I've heard."
[member="Valkren Calderon"]

"Darts?" His heart sank as the hidden pair approached the Admiral's office. Valkren didn't exactly end his last meeting with Torus on a good note, being hungover that time aswell. He wasn't really sure what she thought of him.

"Let's get on with it I guess.."

[member="SARI"]

The sound of darts hitting the center of a large cork board seemed to echo through the room as they entered. SARI could tell that this probably wasn't going to be the best discussion, so she chose to stay quiet.
[member="Valkren Calderon"]

"You better stay with me in there." The sergeant stated as he straightened his posture and walked closer to the door, waving his hand over the pad on the right hand side to request access.

"Sergeant Valkren Calderon, Ma'am."

[member="SARI"]

A sharp, alto "enter" could be heard over the com. The door opened. If SARI had a body, she would be visible flinching each time another dart hit the board.
Admiral Torus didn't acknowledge Valkren as he walked into the sleek, yet plainly decorated office. There were five darts in the bulls-eye, a sixth one seconds away from joining them.
"You took your sweet time, Sgt. Calderon..."
Yep. Today wasn't going to be good.
