A question on Amphistaffs and the Force

Hello, peoples! So, during my creation of a character for this board, I came to the realization that giving said character a Vong amphistaff as a weapon, as it would look aesthetically pleasing for what I am going for. However, in order to do this, I need to obviously rationalize the reason behind her acquiring such a weapon.

My rationale follows as such:

She was Jedi padawan, but has abandoned the order for her own personal reasons. As she flees the Order, she crashed into one of the old Vong-terraformed spots on Coruscant, and happens on a wild amphistaff. The creature naturally tries to attack her first. But, in defense, she reaches out into the Force and performs that ability that allows a Jedi / Sith to tame and command beasts. I feel that this could be possible because, despite it being an artifical creation, an amphistaff is still an animal subject to the Force. However, I am unsure because I recall the Vong being Force-dead, but nothing about their living technology.

Comment and discuss.

Do yourself a huge favor, if you're going to play with Vong stuff, and just spend some time farting around Wookieepedia.

Long story short -- it doesn't work. Vong biots fall under a different part of the spectrum of the Force, just like Vong. What Jedi and Sith call 'Force powers' just don't work on them, unless it's through intermediate steps like thrown rocks or electric current.

I should also mention that if your character happens to get Vongshaped or bond with a lambent crystal, she could develop what's called Vongsense, which is basically Animal Friendship for Vongstuff. You can use Vongsense or the Force, even switch back and forth fairly quickly with practice, but can't use them both at the same time.

Interesting. I could have her instead escape a traumatic experience that cause her to have an arm amputated. She comes across a Vong "surgeon" that gives her a new arm, which is Vong enough to interact with an amphistaff.

My character uses an amphistaff. Or, as he would describe it, has an amphistaff as a pet (or it has him as one).

Starting with the Primeval invasion of Sernpidal, Boo came across the amphistaff as it was separating from its ground mouth and adopted it because of its curiosity (it also latched onto him and wouldn't let go, so he didn't have a lot of choice and had to do the thread without the use of his arms and with a snake trying to go down the front of his shirt).

From there on, I had a series of threads and used further dominions to flesh out the relationship between Boo and Azi (the amphistaff). The amphistaff's growth and personality have become large parts of many of Boo's stories and the rapport between the two of them has developed slowly over time. Boo's Vongsense has developed as part of that, but in reaction to the frequent interaction and not preceding it.

The advice I'd give is if you're going to be a non-Vong character using a biot, to kind of borrow the same advice I see people give NFUs who want to use lightsabers. And that is, develop your story slowly, with a lot of development, to gradually grow your character into that role.

Further, I'd recommend treating it as more of an animal than a weapon. Boo's amphistaff is a weapon in very few of my posts. The rest of the time, it's more of a pet (demanding attention, wanting to play, wanting to be fed, etc). It also has its own personality, likes, and dislikes. In the case of his amphistaff, it hates the cold and so if it tends to bite him or act aggressively whenever he visits a cold planet.

Just some thoughts based on my own experiences. Good luck!
