A ship as a Faction?

Hey all, I'm still getting my feet wet around here, considering my first character, and had a question. I see some small factions that only have a few members. Would it be possible to create a faction around the crew of a large-ish ship? The benefit would be that it'd have its own threads where we could develop missions together, as well as allow for writers to take the lead in specific shipboard functions and shipboard dramatics, leading to roleplay opportunities. The ship would also participate in missions, probably with larger, more political factions.

Speaking of, I believe I recently saw a thread asking for crew members of a ship in that discussion forum. They had some positions open, as well as options to suggest your own position if you desired a specific one. I'll try and find it, but it had a Twi'lek female as the Captain, can't recall her name sadly...

I'm not thinking of creating a character in order to join a ship thread, I'm thinking more in terms of having a single large space where people can write without necessarily needing to participate in every mission thread. For example, a ship-based faction can consist of the bridge crew, fighter pilots, soldiers (including Jedi, Sith, or whatever), diplomats, medical, exploration, even botany if someone was interested. The fact that it's autonomous would mean it would be operating freely within whatever parameters were set up, and would need to engage in trade or supply restock when needed.

Functionality wise, a faction would allow you a personal forum, to RP closed scenarios in if you wanted. However, those don't count toward some faction or submission goals, if they aren't on the public RP areas.

Many factions start out as just this. Something simple.

Just remember that as you grow? The natural inclination is for people to grow outward, not inward. Teams will assemble on the outskirts and push the boundaries into their own little sandboxes of similar-types and familiar-labels. Which is natural, healthy, and true to real life.

Everything changes. And that's okay. :D
