A Smuggler's Beginning

Nar Shaddaa
Aboard The Calliope
Late Evening

Greyden Sulcan was seated in his captain's quarters upon his ship. He had spent many a year working aboard ships, hiding various forms of contraband in small spaces, playing the part of an innocent deckhand should they be boarded. But never had he been a captain of a ship, let alone own it. Now, the criminal was reading through and updated the ledger of his first shipment. It was all very accurate. One hundred metric tons of medical equipment, perfectly detailed down to the very last syringe. The medical supplies would fetch him a pretty penny. He didn't own any of it, but an organization on Nar Shaddaa needed them transported and The Calliope was a new ship with a low delivery cost. So low, in fact, that after the cost of the actual travel and the paying of the young and impressionable Cole that Grey would cut very little profit.

The real profit lay in the other commodity he was transporting. This product, however, was not listed anywhere on his ledger. A small notebook nestled in Grey's jacket pocket. Within was a single line, scrawled onto the first page of the fresh notebook. To the naked eye, it was nothing. Gibberish. However if given just a little bit of time and codebreaking, the line would be translated into the exact poundage of spice hidden aboard the ship. It was not necessarily much, however the pay for the transportation was exorbitant.

Finished with his preparing, he closed his terminal and exited his quarters. He followed the thuds to find Cole placing the last of the spice in one of the hidden compartments. The young man was sweating profusely, bothered by the amount of effort required in hiding the merchandise. "This is hard work, cap'n." He put a sarcastic spin on captain, which was not well received by the employer of the young man. "I ask not that you call me captain, but do not spit on the title." He tossed an oily rag at the boy. "And it is hard work. I did it once. Hugo did it once. You will be nothing without working yourself to a sweat." Cole shrugged off the comment, but made no refute. He beckoned the kid to follow. They were headed to Hugo's.

Little time passed between being on the ship and on the dance floor of Hugo's club. Grey walked in with a swagger he had never carried before, for now was the beginning of it all for Grey. He didn't even have to call for Hugo, his former coworkers ran to grab him before the smuggler even reached him. The club owner carried a look of uncertainty on his face as he approached. He had been vocal about his concern, and now he was past the point of no return. "All ready, Grey?" In turn, Grey nodded and Hugo continued. "Then set off for Nar Kreeta. You'll be in Silver Jedi space, Nar Kreeta may be a decrepit pit but it'll be more guarded than here." This was already known by Sulcan, as he had looked into the trip before agreeing to it. Hugo was just slightly fearful of a brand new smuggler's first trip, but Grey knew more than the average beginner. "All set Hugo. Your product is safe with me. You've got my word." With a wave of a hand Hugo dismissed Grey and Cole.

The duo returned to The Calliope and did a few more last minute checks that the ship was prepared to take off. Pre-flight checks complete, Grey sent Cole to check on the cargo to ensure it had not been tampered with during their brief outing. Cole confirmed the validity of their shipment, then the ship took off on its first trip with cargo.
