Private A Tale of Two Families

Lorda of Nem'ro and Hutt Republic Supreme Mogul
After returning to Hutt Space after brokering a deal with the Grand Admiral, Tiberius Bayne, of the Eternal Empire's fleet as the Eternal Empire invaded the planet of Bakura, Broka the Hutt returned to his home to enact his other agenda. The great Hutt plans on making the Hutt Cartel just as powerful as it was in the past. One of his agents on Nar-Shaddaa found that a fellow Hutt on Nar-Shaddaa is a decedent of another old, and prestigious clan of Hutts. So, from his sky palace on the Smuggler's Moon, Broka sends a message to the leader of the Desilijic Tiure clan, Gortta the Hutt. The message was that of an invitation for the other Hutt to meet at Broka's palace on Nar-Shaddaa to parley, and discuss business between the two, ancient families of Nem'ro and Desilijic Tiure. Broka hopes that good relations between his and Gortta's families would be useful in his plan to bring back the power of the Hutts.

Gortta sat upon his throne in his residence on Nar Shaddaa. It also doubled as a casino and was typical of most wealthy Hutt clan leaders in set up. The main hall was filled with loud music, colorful lights. Around the main floor were also little solo stages placed randomly for Twi'lek dancers. It was a far cry from the family residence on Tattooine that he had hoped to return to one day. Until then, he kept his main base of operations on this equally scummy world.

As he sat, enjoying the entertainment around him, one of his messengers approached the Hutt, handing a message to the protocol droid translator that stood beside him. The droid analyzed the note before turning to Gortta and speaking to him in Hutteese;

"Almighty Gortta, it appears that Broka, leader of the Nem'ro clan has requested a meeting. He wishes to discuss pooling resources to make the Hutt cartel as strong as it once was many centuries ago."

Gortta smiled at the news. He was eager to strengthen the Hutt cartels hold on the galaxy. "Respond to Broka and tell him that I will meet with him at a time and location of his choosing. Prepare my guards for my departure." he responds, before taking sip of the beverage he had been holding.

When word reached Broka at his sky palace that Gortta accepted the offer to meet. Thus Broka issued the order for the place to be in the back room of his Sky Palace at a time of his leisure. The plan to bring power back to the Hutts is coming into motion now, and Broka is joyed by this. By his ancient and prestigious clan making a relative alliance to the other ancient and prestigious clan, the other Hutts would surely follow suit, and join the resurgence of the Hutt Cartel. As the message is being couriered to Gortta, Broka then continues sitting in his opulent palace and shall wait until the other Hutt's arrival.

Some time had passed but Gortta finally arrived at the palace. He entered, flanked by a number of hired guns that served as his personal guards. Following his ascention to head of the Desilijic Tiure family, there had been a total of 30 attempts on his life over the past couple hundred years. For that reason, Gortta has become increasingly more of a recluse over time, leaving the confines of his compound very rarely.

He entered the main room and greeted Broka in Huttese;

"Broka, my friend. It is good to finally meet you. I am eager to work with you to restore the power and influence that our families carried with them. The Nem'ro clan has been a friend of my family's in the past and I hope to rekindle that friendship here today."

The back room was strategically placed behind his throne, thus, very accessible for Broka. The same room is situated near a servant's entrance to the sky palace that allowed Gortta to enter discreetly in order to avoid the typical Nar-Shaddaa intrigue. Broka sat on an identical throne to his in the throne room in this meeting room behind his throne room. As Gortta moves into the seat for a guest Hutt, Broka is there to receive to greetings of his honored, yet reclusive, guest.

In Huttese, "< It is good to finally meet you as well Gortta. The Hutts have been suppressed for too long, and we need to work together to come back stronger than ever. You know better than me that one can not call themselves a true Hutt without being hospitable to their guest. My servants can bring out food and drink along with my meal. Just say the word and they should do so without fail.>"

"I do my best not to mix business with pleasure. I find it dulls the senses and leaves one vulnerable to those who would seek to do them harm. That being said, I think there is much that each of our clans would have to offer the other. Especially in terms of manpower and supplies." Gortta made himself comfortable as he got situated in the guest seat. Although he had agreed to this meeting, he was not a stranger to the threats that other Hutt clan leaders posed to his own authority. He was very much a believer in the humanoid adage of; 'Shake with your right hand but carry a dagger with your left'.

"So, what exactly did you have in mind in terms of moving forward?"

The relative paranoia of his guest was becoming quite apparent. Gotta has appeared to be overtly worried for his own safety without verbally expressing it. Broka has never worried about such, probably due to minimal competition over his assets from any family members (mostly due to said family members all being dead).
However, as said in Huttese, "<Very well. I shall get my meal then.>" Then he signals to a servant to bring him said meal.
Then, continuing in Huttese, "<The reason I say we should do business together is to return power to our kind. For far too long, the Hutt Cartel has been suppressed from other powers away from Hutt Space, or those in Hutt Space that have been driven by vengeance. We must restore power to the Hutts. Our families are old, prestigious, and powerful. Because of the reputation of our families would garner respect from the other Hutts to possibly join our effort. I propose an alliance between our families in order to begin this effort. What say you about this?>"
After Broka finished speaking, the servants came in with the favored meal of the massive Hutt. A large, bowl-like plate made of glass that contained several wriggling eels, and a large bottle of Alderaanian style wine. Broka licks his large mouth in anticipation. The massive tray sat on the side of the throne close to Broka's "torso". Once the tray is set in place at the designated spot in relation to the throne, Broka began eating the eels one by one while waiting for his guest to speak.

Gortta was pleased by this. He had long wanted to bring the Hutts back to the forefront of galactic politics. "I agree. We need to reassert our dominance. I am looking forward to working with you to rebuild the Hutt cartel." He moved ever so slightly to readjust and get a little more comfortable.

"You make a good point. Where our families go, others will follow and soon even the most powerful factions will have to acknowledge our power. Perhaps at some point we can even get them to bend to our will."

His guest's reply pleased Broka incredibly. Broka continued to dine on his meal in the continuing, gluttonous manner. After a few bites, made while his guest spoke, Broka then replied, "<This is good that you are willing to join me. However, I view the reason for the original cartel's collapse being the fractured nature it was run in. If we are to return power to the Hutts, we need a stronger government. One that allows the Hutts to continue in the ways they have been, yet unifying enough to keep the Hutts from falling from power again. We must not get too ambitious where we would begin threatening the neighbors. Like the old cartel, this resurgence should mostly focus on economic might.>"
Gortta Desilijic Tiure Gortta Desilijic Tiure

"Yes, a stronger central government would be key to us rebuilding any semblance of the old order. I also do not think that we should limit ourselves in terms of who we do business. Yes for now the Black Sun and the Eternal Empire are strong and useful allies for us to be able to get off the ground but in the long run, we should not discount the possibility of engaging with the Sith, the Jedi, the Republic, any of the Imperial remnants or any one of the host of other galactic actors out there. Profits do not care about intergalactic borders. Credits are credits."

Arguably his own family history had influenced his views on this matter greatly, seeing as how his own grandfather was no stranger to working both sides of any given galactic struggle in the hopes of turning a quick profit and milking both sides for as much as he could. However such was the way of many Hutts throughout history. Many had cared more about making themselves richer than they cared about blind loyalty to any particular faction.

Again, Gortta made a remark that Broka approved greatly. He will definitely be a good ally. His diplomacy, and thinking (as well as family prestige), made a great partner for power when coupled with his like aspects.

"<What you say is true about profit. I agree in indiscriminate trade with all factions that come to us. However, there are two blatant threats to our way of ruling at the edge of the galaxy; the Keshiri Imperium, and the Byrn'adul. If we trade with all others though, we could garner allies in any altercations with those two powers that would oppose us completely. Byrn'adul would want to purge us from existence, while the Keshiri find us tyrannical and an enemy to their intentions. The Confederacy, Sith Empire, Eternal Empire, and maybe the Republic and Grayson Imperium, would be the primary organizations to make non-aggression pacts, at the least, with. We should also try not to politically agitate the Silver Jedi that would be our direct neighbors. They too might view us like the Keshiri. A political saftey net of allies should allow us to not be targeted by most, aside from those that would wish to throw the galaxy into a giant war. Such a thing should prevent the Jedi, and possibly Keshiri, from advancing on us. However, the Byrn'adul would not care for such things, yet we could only hope any allies would crush them. We may not be a popular people to the outside of Hutt Space, but we would certainly be better neighbors than those previously stated abominations to the very edge of the galaxy.>"

Broka then briefly pauses to eat another one of the eels in the glass on the tray. Then he continues, "<Yet, none of this would matter if we cannot gain the support of the other Hutts in our region. Our two families could easily take the area of Nar-Shaddaa and Nal-Hutta, yet we need the support of the outer Hutts in the neighboring systems. Any ideas of which neighbors to greet first? I began relations with an older Hutt named Gradala on Jilrua, yet that would be too far away to begin our efforts.>"

"I have been isolated from other Hutt for a while. I would not know where to begin but it seems that you do. I can have my men locate other nearby Hutts in the hopes of building our empire, if that could help. As for the Keshiri Imperium, and the Byrn'adul, they are of little consequence. My family was once powerful enough to bring both the Republic and the first galactic Empire to heel. I trust that, in time, with our combined strength that we will again be able to bring all others who would stand in our way to realize that doing so would be a fatal mistake. For now, keeping a lower profile would be advantageous."

"<Agreed. In this time, we should only find other Hutts willing to join our cause. After gaining support from the other Hutts to this mission, we shall create a new government, and proclaim The Hutt Republic. A more legitimized, and somewhat centralized, form of the Kajiedic System that has been in place for as long as we could remember. This system, though liberating to individual Hutts, has weakened us as a species. In order to rise to prominence again, we must unify properly, with a proper government. For now, we garner strength, and good relations from the Eternal Empire and Black Sun, and find future allies. Good luck to your efforts in reconnecting with the rest of our kind. If you have changed your mind, we could feast in celebration to the future of the Hutts under our families. You are my ally, and I would not be as foolish as to poison any food to you, yet if you still have your stance on drink, none will be provided for you if you do not wish to have any.>"
Gortta Desilijic Tiure Gortta Desilijic Tiure

"Well, I suppose given the circumstances, I might be ingclined to indulge. perhaps you can tell me more about this 'Hutt Republic' you envision."

Republic...The very word was near insulting to the Hutt. He was a Hutt through and through and with that came a love for both money and power. The two generally went hand in hand, however power was simply something he expected by virtue of being a Hutt. He was born to lead and rule over others. A republic would suggest that others would have a say in who their ruler was and that was a concept that did not interest Gortta.

"<The name is mostly a formality. To others, a 'Hutt Republic' would make them think we are a more formal government. To a degree, that assumption would be true. However, the Kajiedic System would be mostly used, just tweaked to centralize our species a bit more. The Supreme Mogul, as the old leaders of the cartel have been called, would be granted a bit more power on the foreign scale. Yet, when it comes to domestic affairs, the Supreme Mogul would still be slightly limited. Then, all other Hutts, such as you and me as of now, would be lords of their home planets, with domestic autonomy, and would be part of a Hutt Assembly. The assembly would be a larger version of the Hutt Council of old, where every Hutt that is a part of the Republic, represents their world, family, and interest. The Supreme Mogul just acts as an executive power only on a foreign scale, and would still represent their planet as well. Meanwhile, the rest of the Hutts would have free reign to rule their home planet, do business, etc., as they please. I plan to also prohibit infighting among the Hutts. Wars among our people, weaken us from the inside out. If this new system is put into place, it would allow Hutts to remain powerful whether they are Supreme Mogul, or a Hutt Lord. It also is intended to create more unity among us Hutts, and bring more power to all of us in the end. The primary focus would be economic power, yet, we should still bolster individual militaries as well in order to defend ourselves from any threat. That is a more general description of the plan. You are free to ask on further detail over our meals.>"

Soon after finishing his speech, Broka then signals with a wave of the hand, to a servant to bring out meals for them both. Broka could tell, from what was said earlier by his guest, that Gortta is a staunch traditionalist. In reality, and given his family's history, who would blame him for such thinking. Hopefully, this would seem more agreeable to the fellow Hutt, as Broka's plans for the future of Hutt Space truly rely on gaining as much allies as possible from the other Hutts. Then, almost as soon as Broka gave the order, the servants came back with the banquet for the two Hutts. All of the items are traditional cuisine, accompanied by a few live creatures (most notably the eels) for the interest of Broka, but also for the guest as well.

Gortta Desilijic Tiure Gortta Desilijic Tiure

As the food came out and was placed in front of him, Gortta curled his lips slightly into a smile. He gave a wave of acknowledgment to the servant. After that he began to indulge himself on the meals placed in front of him, going for the eels first. The Hutt wasted no time stuffing his face, only taking some breaks to talk between bites.

"I see. I still have some reservations about whether others in the cartel would be open to such a more formal and rigid command structure. In the days of old, the Hutts were not bound by any one ruler and were free to carve out their own little corner of the galaxy. I hope this plan of yours can work out."

He continued to stuff his face, admittedly enjoying the food and silently kicking himself for having not accepted the offer sooner.

Lorda of Nem'ro and Hutt Republic Supreme Mogul
Broka too indulged in a gluttonous frenzy for even Hutt standards. The other bowl of live eels were his first grab. He slurped them into his mouth one by one.
"<This plan does allow for such a thing to happen. All Hutts who join will have complete rule over the realm of a planet. The Supreme Mogul simply would represent the interest of all Hutts to the rest of the galaxy for the most part. When there is a new world, that no Hutt is living on to lay claim to, then the only domestic duty for the Supreme Mogul to do, would be to put a Hutt that has yet to have a claim in the Hutt Republic domain in the new territory. Each planet would be autonomous like in recent history, where the leading Hutts of those worlds would have hereditary rule over them. You could be the one to Rule the planetary matters of Nar-Shaddaa, and be a representative for the planet, your family, and your interest so that Nar-Shaddaa will prosper more than it does now. I'm sure your capability in business would make such increase a possibility. Then, I would claim Nal-Hutta as my hereditary rule. Then, whichever Hutt is first to help us on different worlds would receive a hereditary rule over all affairs of the planet. It is not as rigid as you may fear, as one still has the ability to rule their domain, with ensured security, however they please. Given your family's more recent history, the security of other Hutts being aligned with you would only increase your chances of rising to a level prominence that would surpass the late, great Jabba the Hutt. Other than a name change for the organization, the majority of affairs for each Hutt would be business as usual, with a better network between all us Hutts. When we get more possible allies, this idea could be refined further, so it can better serve its purpose, without denying individual Hutts their power.>"
As he finished speaking, he then started back at gorging near ravenously at the banquet awaiting his guest's thoughts.

Gortta Desilijic Tiure Gortta Desilijic Tiure

"I like what I am hearing. You have clearly put a lot of thought into this, so I look forward to working with you moving forward. You know me well because I cannot refuse an offer that will increase my power and notoriety and you have made that argument well. Nar Shaddaa would be a nice prize. We can begin putting together a coalition as soon as you want."

Gortta continued to feed himself as he spoke, considering the possibilities that Broka had proposed.

"Thank you for hearing me out. You are wise to listen to the ideas of others instead of shutting them out immediately. You can definitely contribute greatly to the resurgence of our people. We shall find allies among Black Sun and nearby Hutts. However, now, we feast. Let's feast for the future of ourselves, and our people!>"

He then resumed gorging on the remaining food of the massive banquet's first course. Until Broka says to stop (which would not be for a long while), any platters of food that have been completely consumed, are promptly replaced with another round of the respective dish. Broka continues in a gluttonous frenzy. He devours the eels, and his favorite dishes of Nal-Hutta, as his main consumable targets. Now, the meeting appears to be mostly of a culinary tiding as the bulk of diplomacy seems to have come to an end. Broka's mind is mostly focused on the food, and aspirations for the future, yet he still listens if his guest still has more to say.

Gortta Desilijic Tiure Gortta Desilijic Tiure

After a long stretch of time that was primarily filled with the sounds of the two Hutts eating meal after meal, a feast that would make even the most lavish of kings sick to his stomach, Gortta finally looked up at his fellow Hutt and decided to bring the meeting to a close.

"Well my friend, you have certainly given me a lot to think about and I know together we can get the Hutts out of the shadows of backwash worlds and into the galactic spotlight. However, for now I think it would be best for me to return to my people and prepare."
