A Talk of Days Past and Future

[member="Thema Csapla"]

In his simple quarters in the Ession Temple sat the Bith Jedi. It was late and most were asleep. Bith didn't sleep so he passed the time reading. A history of the legendary Empress Teta.

Most of it was stories of her supposed exploits. The actual facts that could be corroborated he already knew. That particular pile was rather short. The pile of tales was especially high.

It also smelled like poodoo for the most part. But here and there Dune could pick out kernels that seemed to hold some truth. And even the tales served as context. How the common beings saw such a figure mattered too.

He scrolled down through the data pad....

It wasn't very often the Chiss padawan slept uninterrupted. Those moments were reserved for the aftermaths of clean battles, or rigorous training. Today had been neither. Meditation, as relaxing and focusing as it was, had never been her strong suit. Too much pent up energy- That was never good. Tossing in bed for the seventh time that night, her eyes finally opened, dully glowing red in the darkness of her small chambers.
Her master wouldn't be asleep, probably. Bith never slept- In fact, Bith were very different to humanoid species. Dune had too many habits she failed to relate to, and could only hope to comprehend. Late night reading was one of them. Why read at night, if that was the only hour when you could actually sneak out to do something un-Jedi-like?
Still... During moments like these, it was a welcome habit. Picking up the small com-link at her bedside, Thema fidgeted with the device for a few moments... Before finally setting it to Dune's channel, and clicking the connection open. "Master, this is Thema." She reported, voice a whisper. There was a deep silence... Followed by another message. "Are you listening?"

Dune looked up from his reading when his comm chirped. Thema's voice. He reached across and picked it up.

"Yes Thema, I am."

He knew his student well enough to know something was troubling her. She often slept poorly when troubled. It'd seemed to be happening a lot more often these days. Perhaps it was time to talk.

"Join me, if you will," he told her as he rose "I'll put on the kettle."
