Public A Thief in the Night

Tannon Vikorr

Guest
Location: Corellia

A cloaked man made his way through the crowded market. The night life was busier than usual, making his discreet movements harder to follow. Brightly colored signs lit his way, providing enough light to reveal the oncoming foot traffic. The man's hood cast just enough shadow to hide most of his face. He weaved his way through the bodies, until finally he stopped. To the side of the street was a busy market stall, providing all manners of imported food goods. Tannon nestled himself firmly in the crowd, a crate of exotic fruit at his side.

"Fifty credits." The merchant responded to another man making a purchase. His hand was propelled forward by the rumbling vibrations in his stomach. Tannon grasped one of the fruits andquickly departed. Sweet, nectar like juices dripped from his chin has he took a bite. Just as he was about to turn the corner, a voice called out. "Stop him!"

Tannon picked up his speed, rounding the corner now. Another bite of the fruit was taken while he resumed to weave through the crowd. He was no longer being discrete, and the crowd reacted in kind. Bodies stopped to watch, hindering his progress. The pursuing party continued to call out, with little effect. A glance was thrown over his shoulder. Three men weren't far behind, big burly ones by the look of them. They were likely hired hands, a result of operating business late into the night. Thud.

The fruit dropped from Tannon's hand as he hit something hard. He watched, hopelessly, as it rolled away from him. He had been careless and ran into a bystander.
"There goes dinner." He mumbled to himself. The men were almost to him.

Kuxirra grunted as Tannon Vikorr bumped into her, almost knocking her down. "What's going on?" She asked, sensing his panic. Seeing the fruit roll away and the men running over, she put two and two together. "You stole it, didn't you? You must be starving!" Her voice was full of empathy. She stepped in front of him, facing the men. As small as she was, even with the phryk quarterstaff at her back, she didn't look that intimidating. But looks could be deceiving. As her great-grandmother—well, many more greats than that—had once said, You don't have to look tough to be tough.

Tannon's attention faced forward as he heard someone speak. It as the bystander he crashed into. A female Togruta of small stature stood before him. It was a wonder he hadn't knocked her down when they collided. The man gave her a shallow smile as she took an estimated guess at what he had done.

"You'll pay for this, Tannon!" He turned to look as the men drew closer. It came from a familiar voice. "That's the second time this week you've been caught thieving!" The angry voice called out. It belonged to a vendor whom Tannon had frequently taken the liberties to lift goods from. Unfortunate for Tannon, his guise had been discovered.

The Togruta looked ready to fight as she stepped forward, but he was ready to resume his escape.
"Don't be foolish." He told her. The man's voice was wavering. Tannon was always up for excitement, but he was no fighter. "If they suspect you helped me, they'll force you to pay off my debt." Tannon wasn't so sure about that last bit, but he'd seen it happen often enough to know the consequences of stepping in between an angry businessman and his credits.

The man motioned for her to follow him.
"If we leave now, we can avoid a fight."

At the first hint she was going to follow, Tannon turned to leave the scene. He started at a brisk pace, careful not to bump into anyone else. Steadily, the man's pace increased into a jog. Tannon was accustomed to moving through large crowds, a result of his frequent 'encounters,' but his pursuers were not. It wasn't long before he found himself implanted deep within the traffic, no longer hearing the angry shouts of the other party.

He turned to speak to Kuxirra Tano-Bonteri Kuxirra Tano-Bonteri , but she was nowhere to be seen.
"Blast it." Tannon muttered under his breath. The man was curious why she would try to intercede to begin with.

The bustling market remained persistent. Tannon positioned himself out of the way, keeping a watchful eye out for the Togruta. He wanted to learn her name, at the very least.

Tannon looked surprised when the Togruta spoke. Her stature made her harder to pinpoint in the crowd than most. "Kuxirra. That's an interesting name." He stated. It came with an even more interesting appearance. The man looked at her questioningly, noting the quarterstaff attached to her back. He expected most people to be armed in some sense, but most didn't flaunt it.

"Nice to meet you, Kuxirra. Name's Tannon Vikorr." He responded to her question. "And, as you seemed to have noticed, I am merely just a thief." He continued, laughing at his own comment. That was the second time he'd been caught this night, it seemed.

The man lowered his hood, finally revealing his features. He looked hardened by years on the street, but some youth shined through. A gesture was given to the Togruta for her to continue following him as he continued to converse with her.
"What brings you to a Corellian market at this hour?" He asked. She didn't look the type to partake in the usual nightlife one might find here.

OOC: Apologies, I misread your last post.

OOC: it's fine. The wording was a little vague.

At his question, Kuxirra shrugged. "I'm exploring. Trying to learn. And I've learned that the best way to...well...learn is through experience." She said, bringing a phrase to mind. It was one told to her great-grandmother when she was a little younger than Kuxirra. In my book, experience outranks everything.

"Exploring?" Tannon asked. "Not much to see here, if we're being honest. Ships, mostly." He shrugged. "Suppose there's always the tourists destinations, if you're into that sort of thing." The man paused, the awful thought of those places made his skin crawl. He waited to see what she had to say before continuing.

Now for his second question.
"What exactly is it you're hoping to learn here?" Grey eyes observed the Togruta as they walked.

Tannon lifted a shish kabobbed treat from a stall as they passed. Thankfully, this vendor didn't seem to notice, as he had his back turned. He took a bite, listening to what the girl would have to say. "Mmmm." There was a spicy aftertaste to the meat that left him wanting for more. A piece was lifted off the stick and offered to Kuxirra Tano-Bonteri Kuxirra Tano-Bonteri . "Want some?" He asked.

Kuxirra smiled. "I'll get my own," she said, setting down enough credits for two shish kabobs and grabbing one. "Okay, that's really good." She said after swallowing her first bite. "I'm wanting to learn the culture. What people are like."

The man gave Kuxirra Tano-Bonteri Kuxirra Tano-Bonteri a nod. The Togruta's payment of his food didn't go unnoticed. Tannon shrugged and moved on. He had no intentions of paying her back and it wasn't like he asked her to do that. The meat continued to fill the endless void that was his stomach as they continued down the street.

"Ah, so you're here to experience the culture." He stated. Tannon grinned, amused at the thought. "Well, you've come to the right place, at least." He added. Tannon looked around the busy street, taking mental notes. Business as usual, it seemed. Most passerby's were conversing or buying things from the late night stalls. If one looked close enough, they might notice the occasional spice deal. Nothing worth getting excited about, though. It was lively, yet stale. Most of the excitement would take place during the swoop races, or in some of the more unsavory areas of the city.

Tannon gestured to the street and buildings that surrounded them on all sides.
"Perhaps you'd like to join me in a bit of fun?" He asked. "Can't just visit Corellia and not get into a little trouble. That's half the experience." Tannon finished, looking down at the girl. He wondered what she might say to that.

Tannon's lips formed into a smirk. "Well, that's no fun." He stated. He took another look around the street. There was a distracted merchant, enchanted by his dealings with a customer. The vendor looked distracted by the promise of his next sale, so Tannon figured he would do. The man quickly made his way over to the stall, then gracefully grabbed what looked like a handmade pendant. As quickly as he had left, Tannon had returned to Kuxirra Tano-Bonteri Kuxirra Tano-Bonteri with the piece of jewelry.

The missing item didn't go unnoticed for long. Angry shouts came from nearby as the vendor had finally noticed his missing wares. The Togruta would soon find a finger pointed at her.
"This one here!" Tannon shouted. "She took it!" He grinned at her. "Have fun." He said in a hushed voice that only she could hear.

A security officer nearby promptly made his presence known.
"Well, that was awfully quick." He said to himself. Tannon discreetly dropped the pendant at the Togruta's feet, then started pushing his way through the crowd to find a spot to observe how the scene would play out. Hopefully, she wouldn't disappoint.

"Tannon!" Kuxirra said, picking up the pendant with the Force and levitating it to her hand. She threw it back to where it came from, using the Force to alter its arc so it landed right where Tannon Vikorr had taken it from before running, once again losing herself in the crowd and making her way to him.

Tannon watched with intrigue as Kuxirra Tano-Bonteri Kuxirra Tano-Bonteri manipulated the pendant without touching it. Now, that was interesting. Returning the jewelry wouldn't seem to matter, though. The officer was closing in to question and the merchant was already angry. If one thing was certain, it was that Tannon certainly created quite the predicament for the Togruta.

An excited look gripped the man's features until he saw her heading straight for him. The expression quickly turned into a troubled look. If the officer recognized him, Tannon would surely see more trouble than he bargained for.

A hand reached out to grab the Togruta's arm. This way, they would not lose each other as they made their escape. He had gotten her into this mess, though he did not wish to see her actually get caught.
"Follow me." He told her. Another chase would ensue, quite like the one Tannon had found himself in just a few moments ago. He might have worried if he had no where to go, but Tannon had just the place to take them to lay low. They just had to shake the pursuers off first.

Kuxirra ran with him, easily keeping up. In fact, it seemed if she knew where they were going, she could have easily left him far behind. "Okay, I'll admit that was kind of fun, but let's not ever do that again." She said, as though the running didn't affect her speech

Tannon laughed as they arrived at their destination, an alleyway situated in an offbeat street. It was currently where Tannon considered home to be. There were a few others in the alley, huddled around in small groups. They looked rough around the edges, but otherwise harmless. This was a side to Corellia many did not see, as they usually came for the resorts, races, and ships.

"So what as that back there, anyways?" He asked, giving her a curious look. "I saw how you picked up that necklace." He paused, still somewhat in disbelief. "It moved without you touching it." Tannon finished, raising an eyebrow. He couldn't wait to hear what she had to say about that.

Tannon smirked. It sounded like a silly name for such a neat trick. "The Force? A Padawan?" He asked, placing his back up against the wall of the building encompassing the alley. "You some kind of Jedi or something?" He asked the Togruta.

Perhaps this was why Tannon found her so intriguing.
"I've heard stories, but I can't say I've ever met a Jedi." He told her. The man fell silent as he pondered on the subject. His grey eyes flashed with intrigue before he spoke again. "Where could one learn to use this 'Force"?" He asked his final question.
