No one could explain it, but as Asher read the reports which were coming from Apatros he was convinced there was something of magick at play. It was not usual for The Confederacy to task witches with an assignment of this kind since Asher had been part of the Mandragora. They had usually served at the will of the nightmother, but Asher had been messaged about this personally. People were disappearing, miners were vanishing overnight it seemed. The more it had gone on certain things were common. People became irritable, angry, some even became violent, while other would slink into a dark depression or malaise. Regardless of the common symptoms, Asher was certain this was a dark influence of a spiritual or supernatural nature. This was a job for the Mandragora, and as the Shaman for Lylek, he would assemble who he saw fit.
Because there were dealing with something spiritual there was one person he wanted on this journey with them even though she had not chosen to be part of the Mandragora. Asher would not wish for her to have competing voices in her head, but the seer was needed. [member="Alvida Osulf"] was more than a seer to him, however. Whatever it was they would call each other, she was his companion, the one helping to navigate the reality of who he was and the world he was from. They had been traveling together since she brought him home from the lake where they had met. He was a wayward son, found.
Another that had joined them was [member="Kasca Fen"]. They had met on a couple occasion, she was quiet when she wanted to be, but someone Asher trusted. Her skill was much more than what others knew, something that had been tested during the battle which took place on Eshan. Asher had observed the witches, proud of the work they could accomplish together. It was going to take such skill to ascertain the source of why people were missing, and then ultimately dealing with it.
His ship landed on the surface of the wasteland, near the mining town. Where there had once been a thriving cortosis mine, there now stood a ramshackled mess of an operation. Everything seemed disorganized, and it was a wonder anyone knew people had been going missing at all. They could not have been prepared for the mess they would find. While the reports had given them a clue about the condition of the town, nothing compared to seeing it in person. These people had enough on their plates, adding mysterious disappearances to the list was not something they needed.
The ramp lowered and Asher began to walk out with the women close beside or behind him.
"The foreman should be expecting us, well representatives of the Confederacy. I am not sure we fit the vision they will have, but regardless, we are here to help. Anything we find that will be useful to us is ours to keep. That is the arrangement we made. We start at the mine."
Asher spoke as he walked toward the mine. He was not even sure what would be waiting for them when they arrived. He could only hope whatever had been causing this had not taken the rest of the workers in the amount of time it took them to arrive.
