A walk in the woods

It was a cold morning on the forest moon of Endor and Jack could see his breath, he pulled on an overcoat as he stepped out of his lean-to, a dozen of thin trails of smoke began to rise through the canopy as others began to wake. It was going to be a long day, the war games were due to start at noon, Jack checked his chrono, 6:27 local time, plenty of time to get the noobies ready, but first, breakfast, he and a few others brought down a Boar-wolf last night and although they jerkied and salted most of the beast to preserve it but being in charge had a few choice perks and he fished a chunk of fresh meat out of a cooler and started his own fire.

Very rarely did Jack get to train with the anyone but the veterans, and never participated in the recruitment games, but this time he wanted to get into the thick of it, and he was far to used to fighting with the same faces he needed the practice more than most. On the menu this time was a game of Imps vs Rebels, the thirty noobs and Jack were going to have to quote unquote, destroy, a munitions depot withing seven local days, while a group of 100 of the vets were in charge defending it along with beating bush to find them. It was a classic set up and based one of the most common jobs they were hired out of. Of course it wasn't lost on Jack that this moon was where the real thing happened so long ago, a group of Alliance commandos took down the heavily entrenched Imperial forces, although far from superstitious it gave Jack a good feeling about this week.

The smell of the meat and the eggs that followed it into the pan was overpowering, a dash of spices and some salt and that would make for probably the best meal Jack would see until the end of the exercise. Now that his food was done it was time to stir up trouble, smothering the fire with a bucket full of dirt heading over to where the the rest of the men had camped, he got all the way to their circle of tents without getting spotted, someone needed to teach them a lesson about setting up a proper watch, or at least remembering to check over their shoulders every once in a while.

Jack reached into his bag and grabbed one of the 'special' grenades, they were like a stink bomb kids would hurl around, just more powerful and it didn't stick to your cloths. He got down in the brush, pulled a rebreather and started to crawl forward. He got practically next to one of them before he pulled the pin and rolled it out of his bush. A thin yellow smoke began to drift out from it and about half of them ran the second they say the gas, the other half once the smelt it.
