- Implanted underneath the skin, the Achilles Armour is designed as a capable defensive measure for those who might not normally wish to wear a heavy suit of armour or something obvious.
- The Hodharium used in the creation of the Achilles Armour provides some measure of protection against force powers being used against the user.
- Provides a very capable level of defence against all the most common forms of attack.
- Implanted just beneath the skin the Achilles protects the internal organs from the majority of attacks while remaining unobtrusive.
- Using the metal Hodharium as the basis for the armour allowed the engineers of Locke and Key Mechanics to take advantage of its unique force resistance to provide a level of protection against the force.
- The plates provide a full body level of protection that protects the user from EMP attacks by acting as a faraday cage, thereby protecting any additional internal cybernetics. The plates also protect from acid attacks by preventing the acid from getting past the skin.
- Although being implanted beneath the skin means that the armour is unobtrusive it also means that the armour offers no protection against biological attacks as the skin, the most common vector for biological or chemical attacks, is left completely exposed.
- The force resistance works both ways, implanted into a force wielder, the Achilles will make it considerably harder for them to use the force.
- The armour implanted under the skin makes it much more difficult for medical treatment to be offered outside of a specialised facility.
- While the armour can easily be hidden from the naked eyes, it’s still detectable by sensors which can lead to stealth being compromised.
The galaxy was replete with weapons, each one able to cause injury or death with a solid hit, or indeed some of them with a glancing blow. It was necessary for defensive technologies to keep up with them, and for the most part, they did. Locke and Key and several other companies had pioneered advances in shielding and armour, creating defensive suits that were able to protect the wearer from a vast plethora of threats on the battlefield. Shielding technology could be used to protect people no matter where they were.
The only problem with both of these technologies is they were very obvious. Locke and Key realised that there was an opening in the market for a different paradigm. For armour that could be hidden from sight, but could still provide that level of protection needed.
The Achilles Armour was thus born, a light armour made up of platers implanted beneath the skin, they didn’t impede movement or the agility of the wearer. Instead, they just provided that level of protection that was needed without getting in the way. Most importantly, it was almost impossible to notice the armour without the correct sensors. Aimed at spies, bodyguards, soldiers or just those that wanted to provide themselves with that added layer of protection the Achilles Armour was another addition to Locke and Key’s ever-expanding catalogue of augmentations.
