ACS-301 YVH Probe Droid
Intent: Make neat droids
Development Thread: As Needed
Manufacturer: ArmaTech Combat Systems
Model: Mk2
Affiliation: ArmaTech Combat Systems
Modularity: Weapons are Modular and can be easily replaced with equal sized weapons
Production: Minor
Material: Droid Components, Duranium Plating
Classification: Class Four
Weight: 45 Kilograms Probe (5 Kilogram Control Node)
Height: 75cm
Movement: Repulsorlift
Armaments:
The Probes are not independently operated or capable of functioning alone. This is because of their support nature and the processors that had to be stripped from them in order to allow them to be so small and contain the systems they did. Effectively the Control Node is a severely miniaturized Droid Control Computer. If its signal becomes jammed, it is destroyed, or the droids go beyond their range, they become disabled. The Control Node only has the processing power to control four Drones. Any more renders them sluggish and prone to crashing. It can however operate different models allowing an operator to mix and match the drones that will be following them.
The drones themselves are unable to act without some direction, though they can understand non-verbal ques and verbal orders given to them by their controller. The controller doesn't have to mess with or actively operate the node, only have it on their person in order to give orders to the droids, and often a soldier would connect them to a comm channel in order to issue orders to them. Because they have a fairly limited range they must accompany the soldier they are assigned with for the most part.
Advanced Combat Protocols are more taxing on the processor and require double the amount of processing speed as the standard ACS-301 Probe Droid, meaning a Control Node using one of these droids could only utilize two other probe droids, or only two of these probe droids instead of four. The increased processing power also allows for increased range from the control node, up to 250 meters instead of 100 meters.
Its a floating death trap. Armed to the teeth with weapons specifically designed to counter known Yuuzhan Vong Resistances and be highly effective against them. Using Coma-Gas Launchers they can render whole squads unconscious with relative ease. With a 10 meter 'casualty' radius and a 25 meter 'effected' radius the grenades are very useful, able to render most things within ten meters unconscious, larger creatures may require additional doses or time to be effected, and can cause drowsiness and tiredness for creatures with twenty five meters before the gas disperses too much to have noticeable effects. Arc-Casters have been known to be effective against Vonduun Crab Armor due to its electrifying properties. Finally, as its main weapons it makes use of very powerful ACS-205 Advanced Dual Weapon Systems. With Charrics rivaling T-21 Light Repeating Blasters in power, weapons known to punch through vong armor, and 12.7mm armor piercing slugthrowers for added effect.
The Droids are fairly large, compared to the standard ACS-301 Droid, and require significant more power for all their weapons and shields, but they are still a very resilient and useful droid, with significantly more armor than their smaller cousins. To Compensate it had an internal Power Generator, roughly 20 kilograms and a 5 kilogram ammunition store for its weapons. This meant that the Charrics and Arc Caster were limited mainly by their rate of fire, and that the Slugthrowers shared 250 rounds. It still only featured 5 grenades.
