Administration Unity and Collaboration

Hey! So this thread is a bit out of use and that's fine, I think we've been doing a great job communicating via Skype for the most part and with Omega we did an amazing job coordinating however as of late I've noticed a trend of miscommunication or lack thereof.

As an admin team, it's important that we present a unified front, even if we're not 100% in agreement with each other about a topic, we need to appear as if we are. I really don't want people to feel like they'll get a different answer on something depending on which one of us they ask, we need to be consistent at the very least. By no means is it wrong to have a difference of opinion, in fact it's good to have a wide rang of opinions but the manner in which that's been portrayed lately (in the faction forum) could be seen as dis-associative and somewhat poor form.

As regular members, it's expected that a lot of the back and forth conversation will be carried out over forums but when we present things to the "GP" or General Population, I think we need to be more unified in the direction we're taking. That will require good communication between us rather than spearheading off in our own directions and then duking it out in the public eye. It makes us look like we've got our asses hanging out for the world to see when we're going back and forth in front of them.

Most notably I'm talking about the "Fortan's Fist" debacle. There's an entire topic there but I won't address that here. What I will say is this: We need to not be arguing back and forth about what we're going to do in that thread, what should be happening is we should be talking about it as an admin team and coming to an agreement or a compromise. When we play the back and forth game, posturing who's gonna name who's legion what, it makes us look bad. Like really bad. Additionally the Omega Rewards thread started going that way, so maybe going forward we discuss what our options should be, create a poll, and then ask for additional/not listed suggestions 'Below' that way we at least as an admin team appear somewhat united in the way we handle things.

Going forward from here, I really would like to make sure we keep the actual "In faction forum" debating/discussing between admins to either here in the Moderation Thread or over Skype, it might not be bad to have a semi-permanent "Admin Chat" so we can keep each other updated and then post fleshed out ideas in here, I just don't want us to look like a bag of ass in front of the rest of the peeps, that and it's frustrating to find out that a fellow admin has a differing view by being blindsided rather than having a discussion about it first outside of the public eye. It would be a courtesy to discuss it in private first.

If we can manage to keep our communication lines open, we'll be able to maintain not only good organization but better be able to promote the image of the faction we want more effectively. As well, despite the salt, a lot of the membership will naturally look to us as far as how to behave, even if sometimes they are an unruly lot :p so it's best to set a good example among ourselves as an admin team.

skin, bone, and arrogance
I agree. I don't want to step on anyone's toes, or have mine stepped on, and I certainly don't want people forum-shopping for admins. We've had some missteps but I don't think we're off the rails yet. Let's just try to be careful and considerate. There's no harm in saying "Let me discuss it with my staff colleagues and get back to you" -- I say it all the time, and technically my word is law :p

I may be newer and all but...

Is this not what we just talked about? About being on the same page? Honestly, it wouldn't have been an issue if we had at least known there was something of an idea, that way we could lay out some stipulations or at least basic guidance on what this would be or how it should look but the fact that we were entirely blindsided by this is not okay.

I moved past the few times it's felt like I got shot down out of the starting gate with things because I deferred to both the FO and you as the other Faction admin because of seniority, but this has got to stop. Approving things and starting things with no prior knowledge. A large part of that is due to the lack of communication between yourself and the other two people on this Admin team. I get RL takes precedent but there's literally no discussion, all of a sudden we find out that you've gone and approved or started things all on your lonesome. Initiative is great but it takes away from the team effort.

I have a lot of problems with the "Marines" concept as it stands currently but that's not what I'm going to focus on here, that's the little pieces. The major piece of what I'm struggling with here is total lack of courtesy. No notifications, no discussion, you just singlehandedly "Making it so". That's not part of a team effort, and I'm not sure if we just need to sit down and have a talk about where we are collectively as far as vision, or what, but we definitely aren't on the same page. We can table things if we want, but ultimately that puts us right back where we are, stagnancy and people start doing poodoo side projects with one admins approval that don't in any way fit the motif we're trying to create here.

Honestly, I love being here, and I'm excited to contribute and push things forward, but there has to be a line in the sand, and this poodoo has to stop. We can't keep coming across as uncoordinated and shattered like this, it's a road we keep heading down and we're gonna end up like the One Sith real quick. Your intent is probably not to backstab us but no one likes waking up with the perception that some skullduggery's been pulled. I am honestly starting to feel that way every time someone comes up with another idea, stating "Vaas told me I could do it". That is not the way a team works, and we need to get on the same page, pronto because this poodoo is a two way street, not a railroad.

Well, let me just say that the idea that was pitched to me was rather different than the idea that hit the boards which everyone saw. Unfortunately, I never got a chance to respond to his post on the board.

I've always allowed people to create their own unit formations, and having managed them for some time on my own, I believe I've done a good job of keeping everything up to a uniform standard. No one was particularly interested in managing this with me before until now. With the idea in question, it was initially explained to me as if the player in question had already worked to make the units before joining our faction, and was simply turning them over to the First Order as a sort of auxiliary formation. One Legion only, not an entirely new branch to replace the Stormtroopers. So it seems like there was something lost in communication here; it seemed innocent enough, and they were his units to do as he pleased anyway, so I approved it.

I now see the problem with that decision, and I do apologize for not involving you guys. I'll rectify it by telling him that we, as a team, have declined his idea.
