Advancement Question

So I've been following a certain characters vote to Lord just to give myself a general idea of what I need to do to get my character ready. I have a question that I've seen in a reply concerning pvp.

My character is not really designed to fight and fight and fight duels. She is slightly above average in lightsaber combat imho. So is there an alternative to pvp threads?

Ok two questions....the second is does invasion pvp count?

Another way to advance is to further your knowledge in the Dark Side by just training and studying, or just going on many adventures to become more and more experienced until someone feels like you've advanced far enough.

Or you just wait till the staff ranks you up.

That's what I did.

As a man who has had Master characters and killed off dozens of them, here's my advice;

Do stuff.

Doesn't even have to be related to the force, just do things. Be around ICly and OOCly. Do stuff for your character, your factions, and others. Get recognized and most important have fun. Don't push yourself because you want to get Master, push yourself because you want to advance your characters story.

Exactly what Alric said.

Do things and roleplay. Interact with other factions. Doesn't have to be Force related either, but develop your story and character.

We have sith masters who were not focused on being pvp duelers. In fact some of them are simply major sith sorcerers.

Take myself for example -- Isolda isn't one to be in duels. She is instead a support character, one who is able to buff or augment her fellow Sith.

Lady Bathory is also a Sith Master whose main focus is Sith Alchemy and Sorcery.

And Darth Nephthys is a sith who is more focused on being a "shield" for other mainline PVP'ers than an actual offensive combatant.

This really helps as the Baroness here isn't built for combat. If anything she's more likely to use the Force in a kind of save her ass pinch of a moment just to create an opening so she can get away. So for the Baroness, just being active with the One Sith and doing her own thing seems about the best way of getting her to advance.

Well it has been said plenty, do stuff and have something that is you. All masters should have that one thing that makes them stick out.

Kaine's brutality
Balaya's boobs
Hion's knitting
Arcis does scrapbooking
Isolda is support
Reverance makes ladies swoon
Carach broods
Janus has silky smooth hair and no split ends

I don't feel she is ready atm, but with all the feedback I've gotten I know what I need to do. I'm a woman with a plan!

Invasion threads generally count a lot, as they show your activity in your faction.

While nearly every character I have ever wrote in any community, or alone in Microsoft Word prior to being old enough to access the internet without parent guidance, have been heavily into beating the ever-loving-kark out of others, that is hardly the only way to write a character. That being said, you simply need to make every post great, every thread perfect, and write to your hearts content. If you show you're a competent writer who is trustworthy enough to be allowed to write as a master with all the toys that come with it, and your character fits the bill, then you will generally be accepted without much resistance. I, personally, cannot speak on behalf of how my own promotion went, as I am unaware of any conversation that went into my first nomination (which I rejected) or my second.

While certainly it is probably a better idea to increase your knowledge of the force itself, not so much your "power" with it, I find that connections in character that you obtain tend to prove your mettle better than knowing how to choke someone. Put your character through a moving story, perhaps a tragedy, and the more effort you put in the more work you get out of it. Every promotion is a case-by-case scenario, so there is no set in stone guideline to promotions for every single person, I simply suggest trying to both be a better writer and tell a story. Get both of those you are golden, get one of them and you're good.

I can say that I've enjoyed my fair share of "punch you in the face characters" during my tenure of rping across multiple sites. Personally though I've always found the ones that don't fight, or have a focus on something beyond the use of a lightsaber, the force, magic, a weapon, etc etc... to be challenging and fun in their own way.

If anything the Baroness would more than likely focus on expanding her business and focusing on herself and her family whilst also being a silent supporter of the One Sith. She'll supply weapons, even has a little sanctuary called the Sepulcher in the Avidon System for Dark Siders to hide out in. That's were her usefulness and strength lies; her wits and the construction of a support system with safe houses and sanctuaries, and providing supplies.

If you don't like pvp, don't focus on that. As long as you are progressing your character, in some meaningful way that you judge appropriate for path from Knight to Lord, then that is all gravy. All roads lead to Rome sort of thing.

Thanks again to everyone that replied. This helps immensely. I knew which direction I wanted my character to go from almost day 1, but I didn't want to sacrifice her destination or change her just to reach a higher rank.

I played another SWRP site for some time and since my Sith character was not THEIR idea of the prototypical hack n slash Sith they wanted all the members to be, my character had been skipped repeatedly for promotion despite all the work I done for them because like this site, my character was not a swordsmen. Yes, I know how to pvp, but I enjoy story line threads way to much.

Again, thank you for all your feedback.
