Adventures on Tython

Elara Hulis

On Tython, the sun was high. Sweat dripped from beneath Elara's headband, which covered her eye sockets. Her should height hair clumped together. Her thin braid slipped from its position of resting just a bit from her forehead and now dangled before her headband. Fortunately for her, she had no issue with her "sight" due to her Miraluka nature.

None of the trees surrounding her provided much desired shade. The terrain gave no mercy as well. The path she had walked her entire trip that day had become no more than a trail of worn stone plates spaced several meters apart. Roots overtook much of the expanse between the stones. Potholes were fairly common as well. Still, she was able to manage herself.

As asked of, Elara journeyed rather far from the Jedi Temple and toward the many ruins nearby. A Jedi sympathetic to the refuges squatting on Tython requested Elara to find a child of theirs that went missing. The only lead given was that this young boy had a fascination with the ancient Jedi ruins. So, Elara took that lead and followed the Force.

Fortunately for her, there seemed to be no hostile fauna to deal with. All she had was a training sword with a durasteel dull blade strapped to her back - only able to bludgeon and slightly shock any foes.

Marble structures surrounded Elara as well. However, time had reduced what was one buildings and temples to the occasional column and half-eroded wall.

Eventually, Elara found a two meter tall, one meter wide stone block that stood upright. The design of it gave off the appearance of being a container - a coffin. Cautiously, Elara approached it. She had a bad feeling about what she discovered.

Without warning, the face of the stone container cracked. Elara immediately took a step back. Then, rocks and debris flew out at Elara as the lid exploded - creating a hole in this block. A droid holding a rifle stepped out without giving a moment. It had a high pitched wail as its head spun around like a top. It raised the blaster toward Elara.

The droid asked for nothing. It simply began to fire erratically. Luckily for Elara, she had already turned around and managed to take cover behind a column. The plasma blasts from the droid began to chip away at her cover. Elara did not know of the limitations of her training saber and whether or not it could deflect actual, lethal blaster bolts. Yet, she did not wish to take the chance on such an unknown.

To make things worse, though, Elara began to hear a second screech just like the droid she faced. Right before her, a metal hand shot out from the ground - another droid, yet buried beneath a shallow layer of dirt. Then, there was a third wail. And then a fourth...

There was no fear in her heart, though. With her mouth slightly ajar, she only had astonishment over how quickly the situation changed. Still, this Jedi Padawan apparently needed immediate help - and some extreme amount of luck for there to be anyone nearby to assist her.

Tythron was an odd place for the blonde Jedi. Born and raised on a warm planet covered with sandy, where the only question about weather was whether it would hot or hotter the next day, the planet was so cold to her. And yet, she couldn't resist putting on warm clothes and exploring the world every chance he got. She had only been able to get away from the Temple so far before her Sense altered her, someone had been in trouble.

A runner by nature, Leigh didn't waste much time as she let the Force guide her to where the trouble seemed to be coming from. Her Sense still not as perfect as she hoped they were, the Force led her to ruins she hadn't seen before. What she knew was that it was near, where she was meant to be. But the exact location escaped her. Such a shame it didn't work like a map, pinpointing exactly where she was meant to be.

Thankfully, where she lacked the power to find the source, her hearing didn't fail her. Fires were being shot in the distance. Without thinking twice, she reached for her lightsaber holstered at her side and ran in its direction. And she had a sigh to see. Droids, blasts, a girl in the mist of it all. The beam came to life at a single push and she hurried forward.

In the middle of the droid's screeching, Elara heard Leigh's lightsaber ignite in the distance. At that moment, she felt sure that help had arrived. However, she knew she had to help herself if she was ever going to get Leigh's help.

The droid buried before her managed to get its other arm through the dirt. It grasped a blaster rifle, though. In Elara's opinion, the crude, unsophisticated weapon would have served her much better than the hunk of metal strapped to her back. So, she sprung to action.

With haste, she dove forward and wrestled the rifle out from the still buried droid's hand. It took several seconds for her to succeed as she underestimated the droid's strength. She then got up and saw the first droid that emerged just several meters away. Elara hastily took aim and fired.

Elara only struck the droid's left arm. It still held on to the rifle with its right.

The droid returned fire. Its shots were, once more, erratic and uncontrolled. However, as Elara kept moving her body to avoid the bolts, one plasma shot grazed her right shoulder. Sharp pain radiated down her arm. However, Elara was still able to shoot at the droid once more. This time, she made a critical strike to its chest - frying its circuits and causing the droid to collapse.

Another droid appeared to her left - holding a blaster rifle as well. However, the droid seemed to not be having any malfunction that forced its head to spin around much like a top. As the droid aimed its rifle at the Jedi Padawan, Elara attempted to run behind some cover. However, she was tripped and fell to the ground - losing hold of the blaster rifle she had procured. Looking back at her feet, Elara could see through the Force that the buried droid had grabbed her right leg.

With the droid to her left bearing its sights down on Elara and nothing she knew she could do as just a Jedi Padawan, she desperately needed the help of Leigh.

Silver eyes caught more blaster shots, the female strugling for a weapon and the girl falling. She saw then she couldn't waste anymore time and focused on the Force, giving herself enough speed. Without second thought, her lightsider rose steps before she would reach the droid, the beam cutting the droid's arm, setting the girl free.

Before she could address the girl, her beam rose, deflecting the blaster shots from the left, her free hand reaching for the girl, giving her a pull away from the droids, in the direction the girl had wanted to go. "Hey? You okay?" She asked while deflecting another shot, this time barely catching it before it would hit her.

As if the Force itself watched over her, help arrived for Elara. She was relieved to see a fellow Jedi be there to assist her, especially since it should have been near impossible that another Jedi would have journeyed out as far as Elara did on the same day.

"I'm fine, thank you," answered Elara in a hurry after Leigh greeted her with a question.

Upon being released, Elara got up and got behind some cover. Luckily, several blaster bolts narrowly missed her once more. She reasoned that Leigh would have been able to more adequately defend herself and perhaps take down the droids without having to worry about protecting a Padawan. Elara paid attention to how Leigh used her lightsaber in order to block blaster fire.

However, she sensed more danger. Looking up at a ruined balcony-like structure, she saw another droid. This time, it took aim at Leigh.

"Look out! Above you!" yelled Elara, hoping to alert Leigh to the danger if she did not already notice it.

The girl was fine. Good. That was what she needed to hear. Leigh ducked under the cover to avoid more blasts that flew over their head and then around them. The droids were relentless. No wonder they had none in their home. Not that they needed them. Not farmers or workers but merely politicians by trade, it was not a necessity for them as odd as it would sound.

With the girl's sudden warning, Leigh concentrated and raised her blaster, deflecting the bolt headed to her, feeling the heat of the lightsaber beam all too close to her since the blast had gotten far too close. Raising her hand then, she directed it to the droid on the balcony-structured and Force Pushed him, making him drop backwards.

"Where do they keep coming from?" The blonde suddenly asked out loud though it was really a question directed to herself rather than the girl at her side. Leigh merely glanced at the girl for a second, taking in her appearance to memory before she had to focus on the battle again. Silver eyes caught movement in the corner of her eye and before she would let it aim and fire, Leigh rose quickly and its metallic head off with her lightsaber, only to duck back down behind cover. That was one. Though all the blaster bolts attempting to get them from above and the sides told her this was far from over.

"I have no idea," replied Elara.

In her head though, Elara guessed that they might have discovered a part of Tython that had not been explored yet. Or, the child she searched for discovered the droids and reactivated them.

Reasoning that the training blade was better than no weapon, Elara drew it from the scabbed on her back and activated it. The durasteel blade lit up with yellow arcs of lightning wrapping around it as a ring every few inches.

Doing so proved to be useful, though. A droid peeked around the cover the Elara used. The young Padawan lashed out at the droid. Her attack connected. While the training blade did not dent the droid at all, it did manage to shock it so that it shorted out.

"We need to get rid of these quickly," warned Elara, "I'm searching for a runaway. He might be in danger."

The answer to her question reached Leigh's ears but she didn't speak again, another droid catching her attention. She glanced to the side and realized how far she was from the droid so her options were limited as to what she could do. Leigh decided on a more efficient reaction, concentrating on the Force before she threw her lightsaber at the droid. The beam cut through the droid as she came close to it, disabling it but not completely destroying it before she called it back to her, her palm meeting the hilt and grabbing it.

Searching for a runaway? He might have been in danger? Leigh's head snapped to the side, glancing at Elara for a moment before she caught sight of a droid approaching from the girl's end. Before she would speak, Leigh launched to her feet and struct the droid and ducked back down. A runaway had to be helped. "Okay, a runaway. I didn't see anyone before. He might be further in." It was just a suggestion. She hadn't seen any runaway from the side she arrived from and clearly the girl hadn't found him yet either.

In agreement, Elara nodded after Leigh's inference on where the runaway might be. However, the problem would have been getting past these droids. Without a proper practice saber, or even a lightsaber, Elara was a sitting duck for the droids - especially the ones with their heads on right. She saw Leigh handling them pretty well.

"There are four more," mentioned Elara to Leigh.

Through her Force vision and acute sense of hearing, Elara could tell that the number of sheiks did not exceed four. Plus, she had the ability to see past visual obstacles to a certain degree. To other Jedi, this made her uncanny awareness of where people were in the next room over to be very awkward. Yet, in this situation, it could have proved to be useful.

"They're all at a distance in the ruins, though," informed Elara, pointing out that these droids hunkered down from meters away behind cover.

Four more. That was quite precise, the female noted. But right now, she chose to trust the girl at her side. There seemed no other way of handling this expect by trusting her young companion. "Alright. Four." Leigh said plainly, accepting the girl's words.

Sneaking a peak from their hiding place, she couldn't see any of them near by though which told her another thing. "How about you be my eyes and I'll cut them up?" It seemed like the only logical step. If the girl could tell her there were four more but they were all at a distance, she clearly could play her part in this so they could find the runaway.
