Jak Sandrow
"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
Okay, so I want to make Jak a personal, custom, signature ship, and I want to go about it the right way... Because this is somewhat different from other ships, I wanted to get other people's opinion before it got instant ban-hammered.

Emerald, a semi-sentient completely organic small freighter–corvette-sized
Affiliation: Personal
Manufacturer: The planet of Ithor
Model: N/A
Modularity: Leech/cannibalize weapons, armor, shields, and engines from other ships
Production: Unique (1)
Material: The main body and heart of the Emerald (referred to as ‘the ship’) is composed entirely of plant material, slightly mutated and extremely unique to this ship. The ship can also cannibalize other ships/vehicles to suit its needs.
Classification: Personal Transport/Small Freighter/Small Multi-purpose
Length: ≈70 meters, not including leech streamers
Width: ≈15 meters
Height: ≈30 meters, not including leech streamers
Armament: Rating: 2
Besides cannibalism of enemy and friendly ship’s parts, the ship is able to hurl non-sentient portions of itself, which can latch onto enemy ships and tear them apart, buzz-droid style, till their limited reserves of energy die out. Each ‘blob’ of vines and branches is the approximate size and shape of a buzz-droid, and has approximately the same power reserve.
Hangar: Total volume of ship: ≈21000 m3; total cargo/hangar space: ≈14000 m3, which is about 50m x 20m x 14m; also see description for details.
Special Features: The ship is able to latch onto enemy ships and, with vines and branches, tear off plates, armor, weapons, material, interior scaffolding, small engines, small hyperdrives, and then fasten those parts onto and within it, effectively leeching its way onto the ship.
If the ship it leeches is smaller, it almost completely consumes it, ripping off what it needs, and discarding what it doesn’t. Anyone inside is basically at the mercy of the pilot. For ships of equal or slightly greater size, the ship ‘hugs’ the target, wrapping vines around it and consuming it that way. For targets of much greater size, the ship can (slowly) eat a large hole right through the victim, plating itself as it pleases and throwing away what it doesn’t, tunneling to its heart’s content.
This is, of course, assuming that the targets are not already shooting, burning through, or slashing the ship. Target pacification is necessary to come first.
The ship’s internal storage is rather unique; the hull opens up like a braided rope being untwisted, and vines snake out to pick up whatever cargo is going to be transported, and withdraw it into itself. Once the ship has re-twisted to its natural shape, the hollow cargo area inside adjusts to carry the new item(s); vines and other supports gently wrap around the cargo, holding it firmly and securely in place, even when the ship flexes.
In space, the ship is able to dump all cargo and shed all armor in a second, flinging it towards the enemy as a distraction, while the ship itself moves away as fast as it can go.
Maneuverability Rating: 0.6; the ship has the reflexes and flexibility of the pilot, being entirely non-rigid and completely in tune with the pilot. However, this drops down to 2 if armor is added, and from 2 to 2.4, depending on how full the cargo bay is.
See Description and Dev thread
Speed Rating: In space:2.5, absolute maximum 1.3; in atmospheric flight:2, absolute maximum 1.3.
The ship moves with the Force and by using the Force; if there is more to push against, the ship can move faster. Additional parts can add more thrust to it, as well as more Force-users can, to give it strength.
Hyperdrive Class: No hyperdrive, without cannibalizing parts from other ships; see Special Features and Description
Strengths:
· Almost completely silent movement, under its own power
· Leeching/cannibalism of other ships
· Unlimited natural life support to oxygen breathers
· Exceptional maneuverability
· No heat signature (unless using leeched weapons and engines)
· Invulnerability to EMP ( “ “ )
· Self-regenerating (unlimited on ground, limited in space)
The ship, being propelled by the Force alone, makes almost no noise; only the sound of wind rushing through forest will alert anyone of its coming. Of course, under borrowed power, it will make plenty of noise. Borrowed power can be taken from enemy targets, things such as engines, hyperdrives, and weapons.
Due to its plant-y composition, it readily, passively produces oxygen to those inside who need it. Also due to its composition, it is extremely flexible – the entire ship is built like a muscle without bone; able to clench and stretch, turn from side to side, twist in the middle of space, akin to an eel in water. Another benefit of being composed of plants, it has no discernable heat signature whatsoever; the cold of space and lack of shields (when flying without leeched parts) prevents it from being detected thermally. Also, as a by-product of having no natural electronics, the ship is completely immune to EMPs.
The ship is also able to self-regenerate to repair itself when needed – to a degree. If more than 40% of the ship has been obliterated – not separated, obliterated – then the ship can no longer self-repair, though it is still alive, barely. However, if less than 40% has been destroyed, it can regenerate up to 20% of itself – absolute maximum in space. It can fully heal once back on the ground. Slugs, blaster burns, and enemy-made holes can be repaired over time, with a single regular blaster burn taking no longer than a minute to heal, and a slug thrower hole even less time. Larger holes and heavier payloads take longer, of course. Again, the ship relies on maneuverability and not durability as a defense.
Weaknesses:
· No armor or shields
· No natural hyperdrive
· Limited, unique fuel
· Obvious Force presence/Force dependence
· Very distinct, conspicuous look, when not armored
· Tractor beams
Having no self-armor, or even shields, the ship is extremely vulnerable to attacks. Any good-sized plasma battery should be able to absolutely tear the ship apart in no time. The ship relies on exceptionalmaneuverability and cannibalism of other ships to survive. However, its maneuverability only extends so far: the blatant lack of a hyperdrive prevents any interstellar travel whatsoever. Also, the more the ship is damaged, the longer it requires refuelling… and it can only refuel when touching the ground directly.
The ship, being created with the Force, propelled with the Force, and powered by the Force, cannot help but leak Force presence wherever it goes. However, this presence is almost likened to a large, isolated stand of trees, so a hurried Force searcher may pass it over (unlikely). Also, it cannot properly function where there is no Force connection, or someone is inhibiting it with the Force – hyperspace being the only exception; it can function normally in hyperspace.
If the ship has no armor at all, it appears very blatant in any spaceport, even disconcerting to other spacers. Not the ship for stealth.
Tractor beams can seriously weaken hull integrity, as the ship’s lack of rigidity comes back to bite it in the rear. With two tractor beams pulling on opposite ends, the ship can just as easily be ripped apart in two chunks, much like ripping a jellyfish in half. Even a single tractor beam can warp or bend the ship in painful ways.
Description: The Emerald is entirely composed of plant matter, woven together as one mass of vines, leaves, branches, and other plant life. This mass is partially sentient, able to use the Force as propulsion, since it was through the Force it was created. Jak controls it indirectly with the Force and his power over plant matter. However, he can directly link up to the ship at the cockpit, and have it become a living extension of himself.
The cockpit has no windows, and is contained within the nose of the ship, right next to the pilot and passenger quarters. It is a large cluster of vines that conform to Jak, growing around him, and (slightly disgustingly) partially into him. This lets him close his eyes as a humanoid, and open up his senses to the outside, controlling the ship as if he was the ship. This makes response time almost non-existent. While connected, Jak is able to see every part of the ship as if it was his own body, and able to see out into space and around him as if cameras were all over the surface. The ship can move like an eel, since it has no rigid structure, but is composed of many strands of plant material. This allows for maneuverability unlike anything seen before.
The interior is comfortable and homey – aesthetically speaking, that is – with hardwood floors, log walls and plank ceilings. Jak figures that the more natural interior hallways and bedrooms would look rather unnerving, so he uses these natural furnishings, as well as bioluminescent lighting, to keep home. All furniture and decorations are made entirely out of plant matter, including beds and mattresses, but that doesn’t mean everything is green. Rather, it could easily be confused for a log cabin on New Alderaan… but with no view. There is dedicated room for up to 9 passengers to sleep in comfort, either in double beds or in bunk beds. More room could of course be created in the cargo hold, but that would most likely be unnecessary.
The ship is arranged: [Cockpit|Quarters|Storage|Main cargo hold|Leeched engines and hyperdrives]
The ship doesn’t have any main engine area, main computer area, or any crux like that. The entire ship is its own engine, its own computer. In a no-win scenario, the cockpit and passenger compartments would separate from the main area and would be flung away with great force, while the remainder of the ship would disintegrate and explode behind it, quite spectacularly.
To land, the ship extrudes large vines, the size of massive tree trunks, and lights as easily as a person tiptoeing. Or really hard; it depends on how well the pilot is concentrating. It requires no fuel hookup, only a waste disposal (wastes are stored in small ejecting pods, if necessary as ‘flares’). ‘Fuel’ is just nutrients and water, sucked from the ground and pumped into the hungry ship. The nose of the ship peels open, and vines lower to the ground like a boarding ramp, for passengers going on or off.
All external and internal lighting is provided by bioluminescent ‘blisters’; all the bulges within the hull and without can turn on or off as necessary; this can potentially lend an illusion to tracking ships that this ship is not as big as it looks, or is a different shape or configuration.
---
To leech weapons, engines, and hyperdrives from enemy targets, the ship has to first make contact. It does this with its ‘leech streamers’, long vine tendrils extruding from the ship’s surface. Latching on with microscopic grips, it then sends out smaller vines to work in between cracks, pulling and ripping with immense force to tear armor off ships, exposing internal framework and bulkheads. Once the armor has been skinned from the ship, it is passed from vine to vine, where it is bent into a more preferable shape, and held in place by the vines. With enough plating, the ship can form a formidable coat of armor for itself. However, pulling armor off targets takes time, and the thicker and larger the plate, the longer it takes to break away. If it is taking too long, acid can be secreted by the ship to help aid in the process a little. Usually, though, it can pull off a plate 10m x 10m in about 10 seconds, roughly.
Internal components, and smaller external components (i.e. weapons and their fuel) are much easier to leech, due to less restrictive mounting on the ship. Hyperdrives (if small enough) can be ripped out, the wiring used to bond directly into the ship through specialized organic circuitry. Weapons can be held on the hull by more vines, the fuel and ammo stored within the ship itself. Engines can be mounted on the back, wiring sent through the ship to the cockpit. Shield generators can be mounted on the hull, power maintained by any necessary power source. To the pilot, it will feel as though implanted with an IV drip wherever there are machines or weapons within the ship (on that matter, cargo will feel like an empty or full stomach) .
The ship can take a few minutes or so to get accustomed to having strange metal pieces now a part of its hull, and may distribute weight around within itself to compensate. Engines, when started, must be started slowly, not fired all at once, as the ship may not be able to compensate in time, and the engines may shove into the ship, possibly damaging it. Same with any leeched hyperdrive, it must be started slowly, and entering into hyperspace must be done slowly as well. No forced jumps, no lightning-fast jumps, and preferably no indictor ships. That would get… nasty…
Maneuverability can be inhibited by armor, though. Without full flexibility, the ship cannot properly twist and turn in space, and so must do its best to move with somewhat hampered ability.
The ship can also fling small portions of itself towards enemy targets; these ‘blobs’ bore into the ship, not bothering to strip it of armor, but instead peeling it back and working their way inside, ripping out components and eventually detonating inside the ship (usually fighters). A swarm of only 5, meter-wide blobs of vines and branches can chew through and into an X-wing in seconds. However, the amount that the ship can actually fling is EXTREMELY LIMITED, with the most being 20 before performance issues of the ship are noticed.
One very important question is raised, however. How is this ship able to function, as a plant without air, in the middle of space????? Well, it’s very simple: Jak cheated nature. The ship breathes internally, all fuel reserves held within it, like a scuba diver in deep water. Extreme attention is paid to the passenger compartments, to make sure they are airtight and there is a comfortable level of oxygen. Other than that… the ship is basically a flying self-contained arboretum.
And that makes it fragile. A well-placed plasma blast will undoubtedly rip through the ship like a bullet through paper. Hand weapons will easily pepper and penetrate the vines along the hull, and a good-sized flamethrower would lay waste to this ship.
If not for one particular factor: self-regeneration. Composed of mutated plants, the ship is able to self-heal at an admirable rate, though not so fast as to be essentially invincible. No, the ship can only regenerate so much before it needs to set down to refuel and recharge. How much the ship can recharge, Jak doesn’t know precisely, but he does know that any major damage – a plasma battery shot through the hull – would be permanently crippling. Against a large enough gun, such as a capital ship’s main battery, this ship would be utterly vaporized. Therefore Jak takes highly into consideration both the ship’s maneuverability and its limited regenerative ability.
